March 31 vs the Sox, no not them, the other Sox

I didn't mention it last night, but I was actually at the game yesterday. Only silver lining was that my friend's 13 year old cousin got a foul ball. He and his parents are from Germany and it was their first ever baseball game.

Wasn't it xFIP? Anyway, if you give up 2 homers and still have a decent FIP that would actually be a good sign. Low sample size FIP is usually bad for when the home run rate is unsustainably low (like zero homers in 3 starts or something). Paddack is not going to give up 2 homers per 5 innings over the whole season unless he sustains a season enfing injury before his next start.

The Twitter dorks use this stuff to support their arguments that these players are good based on whatever metric suits their narrative. The thing data and metrics are about measuring and trying to predict future success which I see a ton of value in. I get the EV argument but they also do it in a vacuum (like what is it a groundball etc).

They’re Missing the whole point. What ultimately matters is runs bitches which they ignore and just cry babip.

Dane myers just ABS challenged a pitch right down middle 😝

Kind of curious. If a pitch is called a ball is the batter allowed to challenge it?

Hicks did a lot of work at Driveline and in the weight room with targeted exercises in the off-season. It's a very small sample size but is one part of the investment into the analytics and technology.

Money is being prioritized there for long-term benefit instead of signing guys like Jose Quintana. That is why it is important to not take a myopic view with what Saint Peter and company are doing.

And yes the plan is to compete this year with an emphasis on long-term sustainability. The Marlins are a viable wild card/playoff contender this year.

Now fix those pesky oblique injuries that have been cropping up with increasing frequency. As someone who suffers a lot from side cramping and oblique issues I have a few ideas as to why this is happening and how to minimize it in the future.

Going to be an interesting roster crunch when Stowers, Morel, and Ruiz (Acosta as well, but he will get optioned). Especially since there are a few more guys knocking on the door at AAA.

BTW, Gusto was pretty solid in JAX tonight.

And guess who hit his second home in two games, Mr. Deyvison (my career major league average is .500) De Los Santos.
