Since we couldn't get vlad i say we get randall simon and i wish we could get jason kendall i think a team with these two will be outta this world, especially with this team we got, hopefully we get these people in the offseason:J.Kendall,R.Simon,O.Hernandez.

*Drools*

I think the Marlins can get Simon w/o that much trouble considering the Cubs didn't play him a lot down the stretch last year. Hernandez is also a realistic possibility, but I don't like Kendall. Too much money for too little value describes Kendall, but he's one of the VERY few options if not the only option for the Marlins catcherwise other than what they currently have, so maybe i'm wrong and they should get him anyways.

Kendall=tough,good hitter,no power(lack of power),speed,good arm,gets on base alot!hey i'll take him,lol.

In my opinion the Fish should just go into next season with what they have now or just add maybe one guy to the bench or bullpen for approx. 1-2 million. I say that because I believe this team can compete the way it is right now. People forget that this was the best team in baseball down the stretch. This time there won't be a sluggish start hopefully. If the team is competing into July then they can go out and add payroll. No need to use it all now when the team can compete.

maybe el duque and mondsi. I think they need another pitcher and possibly one more bat.

No wtf... If you going to get a pitcher go after Maddux not El Quque..

I'll take Sauerbeck and a guy for the bench and save the rest of the money for July, like nc marlin said.

I would be content with that.

This is why she's going to MIT.

Money doesn't help you much in July which is a trading deadline. Most teams are looking for, or to unload talent, with an eye towards prospects as coin of the realm. Cash is king right now and the Marlins should be using whatever resources they have right now to acquire talent even if they become tradebait later in the season.

We should be focusing on acquiring another starting pitcher regardless of how optimistic we or the front office may be about AJ's return. You never know when another blister or bone spur or blown elbow will happen.

We need at least one more experienced and competent reliever to round out our pen. Tommy Phelps as much as anyone kept this team in games last season when every win kept the franchise from imploding. Hopeful as I am that he can repeat his good work early on also recognize he frailties. Get an arm that thrown a hundred plus innings for a few years and I'll sleep better at night.

Our bench needs consideration as well. Perhaps an Abraham Nunez will finally blossom into a major league player I'd rather a John Van derWal, a guy with years of experience was sitting on the bench instead or beside him. Baseball is a game that requires players to often learn their craft from the bench but with an experienced bench comes a better chance of repeating our successes of 2003.

We need a 5th starter, a lefty specialist, and a 4th OF on the bench. :thumbup

Loria has set a 60M salary this year. If we go into the season with 59M Beinfest can't add an Urbina or Conine or Pudge later when they may be needed. Right now we have a pretty solid club. I'd like to see them hold back some cash to see what needs to be addressed in May or July.

But with Vlad going to the A's, that probably gives Pudge a better chance to do something with the O's.

I think we could find a decent short-term fifth-starter somewhere within our system. Phelps, Tejera, dare I say.....Sanders?

I would agree if we weren't the defending world champions and a stadium deal wasn't on the line. We have a horrendous September schedule and need to get out of the box quickly. For me I want to see the Fish go get someone we can count on, that has a record of success and keep the Marlins in contention until we know more about AJ.

Hasn't AJ been pitching from a mound since September? I remember reading that on MLB.com in the fall

I can't source a story but I don't believe he's pitching off the mound yet, or at all.

I'm prepared to be proved wrong.

With no workout Monday, Marlins manager Jack McKeon and his wife Carol did some window shopping along Michigan Avenue's famed "Magnificent Mile."

With the weather dipping into the 40s, they looked at some coats.

The experience reminded McKeon of when the Marlins were in Chicago for the first two games of the NLCS.

North Carolina residents, the McKeons don't have a great deal of heavy winter clothing.

In one store, Carol found a coat that caught her eye. She showed it to her husband, who immediately told her to put it back. The price: $1,180.

I don't know why that's so funny, but it is. To me, at least

of course the team is competitive as it stands ... we have a better bullpen and closer ... and hitting might be slightly less productive but i think it will hold up ... remember Hollandsworth for the first few months of the year?

Now abotu getting anyone else ... I would cry for Saurbeck but it looks like he might be heading to cincy.

Kendall ... most likely going to SD for Cirrillo & Hernandez

All we really need is a lefty in the pen and good bench guy ... i'd feel confortable with Harris, Banks, Mordy, Easley, Abe Nu?ez ... id like a little more pop from there but whatever ill be content.
