PUDGE 4 for 40!

Featured Replies

If this goes down it will be an upset to Javy Lopez, plus it'll ruin baseball, and shock the fans and the media, Scott Bora and pudge have struck gold if true, a hot rumor can't find link to is that this signing WILL HAPPEN and then pudge will be sent back to the fish, but they must first waive a law or something, it's stupid, BACK TO TOPIC, this is halarious, Detroit Tigers will never be competitive, or are they aiming to be the next Yankees, hard to believe that the guy doing this is Dombroski!!

at 4/40, not a chance.

I wouldn't doubt that he gets sick of losing and demands a trade, but I don't see it being an immediate thing.

For that matter, I don't believe the 4/40 offer either; it's probably similar to the contract that the Mets offered Vlad. Seriously if it was a guaranteed $40 mil, Pudge would have signed...

This story is everywhere BUT IT'S JUST THAT, the same story over and over and over and over again, AP quoting a "source". May be true but so far, there's no other sources reporting this.

We'll see.

Even freep.com, the Detroit Free Press, has pretty much the same thing using the AP source. Here it is:

Dombrowski: Deal with catcher not imminent

Ivan Rodriguez has reportedly been offered a big multiyear contract by the Tigers, but for the time being, the Pudge Watch in Detroit is on hold.

The Associated Press, quoting a baseball source, reported that Rodriguez has been offered a $40-million, four-year contract by the Tigers.

That's the exact deal his agent, Scott Boras, proposed to Rodriguez's former team, the Florida Marlins, who instead offered $24 million for three years. Rodriguez rejected that and became a free agent.

Rodriguez, looking for a deal in the neighborhood of $10 million a year, has remained on the market while other high-profile free agents signed with new teams.

Tigers president Dave Dombrowski, on his way to a family function in Chicago, said late Friday afternoon that "nothing is imminent" in his dealings with Boras. Asked later that evening about the report of the $40-million offer, Dombrowski would neither confirm nor deny it, saying he preferred not to comment.

"As I said earlier, we have expressed an interest and we'll continue to monitor the situation -- continue to do our homework," Dombrowski said.

Sources told the Free Press that team owner Mike Ilitch asked Rodriguez to take a physical, and Boras flew to Detroit for face-to-face negotiations -- normally signs that a deal could be near.

But Friday came and went with no announcement of an agreement.

Boras flew back to California and Dombrowski headed to Chicago for the weekend. The Tigers' offices will be closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. That could mean that even if a firm deal is in place, it won't be announced until next week.

For the past week, the Tigers have been thought to be the leading contenders for Rodriguez if only because few, if any, other serious suitors have surfaced during the off-season.

The Chicago Cubs have been mentioned as a possibility, but deny any interest in the catcher. The Orioles, who signed free-agent catcher Javy Lopez, have been reported to have a mild interest in Rodriguez.

Ilitch said he was willing to become personally involved with the high-profile free agents this off-season and overpay if necessary to get them to come to Detroit.

Sources close to the negotiations with Rodriguez have said that if Ilitch "stepped up financially," the catcher would sign with the Tigers. "

look- anything is an improvement over last year, but they're still horrible i dont think thats the worst lineup in the mlb anymore... maybe pittsburg or milwaukee.

If Pudge does sign, he Guillen and Vina make a pretty solid defensive infield. They are in a pretty weak division, but I have a hard time seeing them as a .500 team even with Pudge.

But remember, they lost 119 games last year; they can't get any worse...

Pudge just needs to come back to the Marlins and take our offer. No one will give him a better offer than us. didnt he say he wants to be on a winning team? Then why go with the tigers if he wants to win.

i think milwaukee is worse, Pittsburgh is a little better than the tigers tho

Pittsburgs sopposed to have the worst linup int he league enxt year, besides kendell theres no1 there at all...

I guess none of the Pudge haters got their wish. I'm glad for Pudge. It doesn't matter how much you try to say it's a bad team and all... He got his money.

So to all Pudge haters I say this: na na na na :D

Why in the world would Sanchez not be leading off?

Vina would bat second, and Guillen would bat toward the end of the order.

Palmer wont start(i think he may even retire)

Eric Munson would probably get the nod

but the team as a whole(battingwise) aint too shabby

nice offseason by double D and the Tigres

What I find funny about this discourse is that it's so hauntingly familiar.

Sounds just like things people said about the Fish before we signed Pudge and were heading into last season and out of the blue we signed him. Need I remind anyone of LeBatard's infamous comment, that signing Rodriguez was the equivalent of "breast implants on a corpse" or Rosenthal suggesting that Pudge was being "exiled to baseball's Elba"?

Regardless of how we as Marlins fans feel about him not re-signing here, give the guy credit for being a leader and warrior and emblamatic of what it takes to win.

Can he pull the Tigers from worst to first? Probably not. But can be help teach this floundering franchise what it feels like to win again, and to gain some modicum of self-respect after what can only be described as a humiliating 2003 season, I think so.

If he's going to sign anywhere, I'd like it to be Detroit. They so need to again feel good about baseball there and it would be good for baseball to have the Detroit Tigers perform well in 2004. Plus he'd be out of the NL where he'll do little damage to us.

I'm old enough, lol, I'm old enough to remember Al Kaline's rookie season, to remember when the Tigers were one of the premier franchises in the game. Like the Marlins they've fallen on tough times in the last few years and I for one would be thrilled to see them right their ship and be taken seriously again.

nice offseason by double D and the Tigres Palmer's days at 3rd are long gone. Munson will be the starter there, and Palmer -- on a minor league contract -- will be fighting for a shot at DH in Spring training. The smart money says he'll retire before the team heads north.
