Ordering Pizza Today? Beware!

If pizza from your favorite pizzeria is on your Super Bowl party menu, beware: Super Bowl Sunday is the busiest pizza day of the year. More pizza will be sold today than on any other day the entire year. So place your order early and be prepared to wait.

As USA Today puts it, "Pizza has become to Super Bowl Sunday what eggs are to Easter. Or candy canes to Christmas."

Pizza may be fattening and not a staple of any nutritious diet known to man, but it's perfect for those days when we're too busy to cook or have too many people to feed. It's cheap, easy to serve, and perfect for large groups.

And that is precisely why the top 5 pizza sales days are:

Super Bowl Sunday

New Year's Eve

Halloween

The night before Thanksgiving

New Year's Day

"There are situations socially tied to food categories," Jennifer Aaker, a consumer psychologist and marketing professor at Stanford University, told USA Today. "Just as you might go on an airplane and order a tomato juice, you watch the Super Bowl and eat pizza." Or eat pizza while passing out candy to trick-or-treaters. Or eat pizza when you're too tired to cook after ringing in the New Year. Or eat pizza while you're getting ready to cook the Thanksgiving feast.

Fun facts to know and tell about pizza, according to FranchiseHelp and USA Today:

94 percent of Americans eat pizza regularly.

93 percent of Americans have eaten pizza in the last month.

Pizza is America's fourth most-craved food, behind cheese, chocolate, and ice cream.

Americans consume over 100 acres of pizza a DAY, about 350 slices per second. And that's on a regular day--not Super Bowl Sunday or Halloween!

Pizza accounts for more than 10 percent of all food service sales.

Approximately 3 billion pizzas are sold in the United States each year.

On Super Bowl Sunday, pizza delivery drivers can expect $2 tips to sometimes soar as high as $20.

Domino's delivery drivers will log about 4 million miles on Super Bowl Sunday.

Delivery sales of pizza spike the most during close Super Bowl games.

There are approximately 61,269 pizzerias in the United States. These pizzerias represent 17 percent of all restaurants.

That 4 million miles thing is absurd

I ordered some Pizza Hut today. It didn't take that long. I gave the delivery driver the money, dude almost left with the pizza.

The scary part is most people don't know what good pizza is...you can get that only in NY!

I have been upstate so at times I go months without pizza.

The scary part is most people don't know what good pizza is...you can get that only in NY!

:laugh

Your kidding right?

New York has great pizza, 2nd best i've ever tasted, but Chicago's pizza OWNS!

And even if you think New York has the greatest pizza, which you could make a good argument for, it's definitely not true that you can "only get good pizza in NY."

However, to say you can only get good pizza in NY and Chicago would be a very accurate statement :thumbup

I had pizza a couple hours ago... at the place I mentioned in the restaurant thread. I had the buffet with the apple pie pizza at the end :thumbup

However, to say you can only get good pizza in NY and Chicago would be a very accurate statement

Also Hot Dogs.

Maggs, I have never been to chicago, so I couldn't tell you. However, even nYers can't find a good pizza, unless they are REAL italians. Arthur Ave in the Bronx has some of the last good pizza around at Full Moon. Nina's pizzaria in yorktown is extremely flavorful, just superb pizza.

Hopefully there are enought Italians in chicago! If you can appereciate NY pizza than I'll take your word that chicago does it right too.

Pizzeria Uno is a chicago type of restaurant and that is the best pizza I ever had.

So I'll go with maggolio and say chicago pizza is the best. :thumbup

new york and chicago tie for the best

Actually, chicago's deep dish might be just a little bit better

It's obvious none of you have had Old Forge Pizza in Pennsylvania, considered the greatest small town pizza in American and I've tasted Chicago, New York and Old Forge and Old Forge beats Chicago by a hair and New York is a distant third.

New York gets way too much credit

If you're a medgone, then you have no right to tell me what pizza is the best.

You have to go where the real guineas go. not small town crap.

New York has the best pizza Period.

Well, I have never been to Chicago

I ordered pizza on sunday and i got it in 20 minutes,i guess i got lucky.

If you're a medegone, then you have no right to tell me what pizza is the best.

Your trying to make a debate about Pizza?

Now back to Subject, I've had Pizzeria Uno in other places other than Chicago and it doesn't compare. So I'm just curiou, how many people have had real chicago pizza and also have had the knockoffs(Uno)

in case you haven't tried chicago pizza, you can order it from giordano's here:

http://store.yahoo.com/cyberstang/mailorder.html

and their website is: http://www.giordanos.com/

oh, and about the pizza debate. chicago pizza isn't really pizza; i'd say it's more of a pie or a casserole. comparing pizzas to pies is like comparing apples to oranges. they're both good, but they aint the same species.

If you're a medegone, then you have no right to tell me what pizza is the best.

What the hell is a medgone?

Oh, and the best pizza is not in Albuquerque thats for sure. Now if you want the best Green Chile anything, its here.
