February 20, 200422 yr If opening day sells out, then we will certainly surpass the WS attendance. It would seem fans who purchase tickets for opening day will plan to attend. I was amazed last year during the WS to see so many sold, but empty seats...in some cases entire rows were empty. I wouldn't expect to see that again for opening day.

The games were sold out, but the stadium wasn't filled. It's like that at Yankee Stadium and MSG all the time...
February 21, 200422 yr Author i think we may see a few empty seats in the first inning or two, because the game is at 1pm, but a) this will definitely pass opening day 93 and b) will challenge ws gm 6 97 for the record
February 21, 200422 yr waaaaait what about the picnic area thingy! I mean that has to take a substantial amount os seats up!
February 21, 200422 yr Picnic area goes up and takes that right foul poul corner that is really undesirable, but excellent for a bullpen picnic area. You can cram people there as a standing room area too.
February 21, 200422 yr We will have a big crowd, specially that the Marlins sold a bunch of tickets in Fanfest. I expect the crowd to be around 35,000-40,000

The point is if we sell out, there will be more full seats (fewer empty brokered seats) so the attendance should be higher.

The point is if we sell out, there will be more full seats (fewer empty brokered seats) so the attendance should be higher. well, ticket brokers will be buying the seats regardless if the game sells out. if it sells out, they will have bought a number of those seats. the WS games sold out, but not everybody could just find brokers to pay an arm and a leg to. but the good thing here is we're playing the expos on opening day. the game is only of significance to marlins fans. unlike the WS or the NLCS, the brokers have MUCH fewer people who would want to buy the tickets (yanks/cubs fans whose team advances at the last minute or baseball fans in general). south florida sports fans are terrible for ticket brokers. it's not a broker friendly state, and the brokers will only be buying a few tickets if the game looks like it'll sell out. so yeah, you're right. a lot fewer of the tickets will be bought by brokers/scalpers for opening day. do i think we can sell out? i'm hopeful. unlike during the playoffs last year, these tickets are cheap. everyone should be able to come out. i can't imagine not selling out.
February 21, 200422 yr i think we may see a few empty seats in the first inning or two, because the game is at 1pm Not because of the time really, because most that are going are either skipping school or calling in sick at work in the first place. BUT, I think there will be a lot of empty seats fromt the 1st-4th innings because stupid bandwagoners that weren't at opening day last year probably ordered tickets to pick up at the will-call windows, which will be absolutely PACKED. Last year I did the same, and literally some 7,000-10,000 people were waiting in line to get their tickets. This is the reason why we sprung for the extra $2.50 to print them out at home this year. :lol
February 21, 200422 yr I already told my kid he's playing hooky from school for opening day. He wasn't at all unhappy with the notion :brigginbounce
