TarHeel324
okay, its been common knowledge there will be some sort of lockout/stoppage in the NHL. with overspending on contracts, no ratings and no revenue, this is where we are i think were looking at much fewer teams
nc marlin
I say the NHL is but that may just be wishful thinking. If the NHL disappeared it would allow for more basketball on TV. We all know you can never have enough hoops.

I can't stand basketball anymore because all it is now is a bunch of overgrown men who take drugs and murder people save for a few players. (No offense to any basketball fans, I love college basketball but not too much). Plus every friggin basketball game, unless its a good rivalry, or college, sucks to watch. They are either blowouts or decided in the last minute...
Guest marlins02
i voted for less teams, but the NHL itself could die but a new league will probably form
Beinfest4Prez
i voted for less teams, but the NHL itself could die but a new league will probably form Nothing will compare to the NHL, not even the WHA. The NHL just has the history, the teams, and the players. The WHA will never get away with that even though they have a very colorful, but short, history (Both old and new)
CapeFish
It is the same with every NHL lockout/strike. "All hell is coming. Get the children and freeze them in the ice so they won't fold our beloved (fill in "at-risk" team)! Barricade the arena from the bulldozers. Take the players hostage!" This is part of the ploy by NHL owners to get the players to back off, like MLB did with contraction. BTW, NBA fans have a possible work stoppage coming up in 2005, so you all will be doing the same except in reverse. Then the NFL enters some talks but Generalisimo Tagliabue has the NFLPA as his lap dog because they are willing to degrade the league with replacement players. I know the Panthers won't fold as Alan Cohen, as frugal as he is, is one of the best hockey fan owners in the game. If they do fold, you will see one pissed and disappointed hockey fan... CapeFish
Panthers would survive a mass folding because... 1) They have a good TV contract. 2) They have a new arena. 3) They were paid for in cash. 4) The debt payments for the arena have been refinanced. 5) The ownership has deep pockets. 6) The books are pretty much balanced. 7) The Panthers run a lean machine. TarHeel324
hockey is a fine sport, but the NHL has been headed to this point for so long. there is no cap, teams overspend, have s***ty tv contracts and have even worse attendence figures. in other words, teams are spending money and making nothing back, but i do think the panthers will stay alive just look at this league. the quality of play has weakened, its become slower, and there are so many teams that are either bankrupt or near bankruptcy its not even funny this will be bigger than any other lockout in recent sports history, because teams will go

chefbob
hockey straight up blows away basketball. I can't watch regular season NBA games anymore, it bores me. I haven't been excited about the NBA since I was a kid in the mid 80's with Magic & Bird. College basketball is another story, I love it. But there's something magical about hockey. Hanleylicious
No it wasn't and you know I'm right. uhh. no. sure there are some people that have drug problems and get in trouble with the law in any sport, and the NBA is no exception. I'm sure there are the same amount of players, or more that get into trouble in the NFL or NCAA than the NBA

Beinfest4Prez
Who cares? NFL >>>>>> NHL MLB >>>> NHL NBA >>>> NHL Heck even MLS >> NHL What are you smoking? Its more like this NHL>>>>>NBA Reg. Season and MLS MLB and NHL a little > or =NHL Trust me, hockey is the best sport on Earth with Football and Baseball. Every game the players give their most, except for Jagr, and play for the love of the game except a few (Example Jagr) and we all have Ted Leonosis to thank for massive contracts entering the NHL (Again Jagr, as you see I don't like Jagr). The only hockey league with a scant problem like that is the QJMHL (The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for those of you who don't know) where they are having big drug problems and the like.
