Favorite Movie Soundtracks
Mabdul also mentioned Mansel's Requiem for a Dream score. That's another great one.

Favorite Movie Soundtracks
I don't own any soundtracks so when I mention Hermann, I'm talking about his score in the movies themselves (which is excellent btw). I also heard a little of Kitay's Ghost World score today. It was quirky and I liked it.

Favorite Movie Soundtracks
I've been lead to believe that 'soundtrack' is the correct term (or the political term). I personally prefer 'score' as well but I wanted to leave it more ambiguous. Absolutely no mention of Bernard Hermann yet. Citizen Kane Vertigo North By Northwest Psycho Cape Fear Taxi Driver I think John Williams' best work is Jaws, E.T., and Schindler's List. Also I need to mention Ennio Morricone's Days of Heaven and Cinema Paradiso.

The Book Thread
Looks like I'll be reading Catch-22 next semester.

Favorite Movie Soundtracks
John Williams composing some of the all time classics in a recent Oscar telecast. Some of my favorites are in there. The Magnificent Seven score I find to be underrated.

Survivor: China
It's been an above average season. I really haven't enjoyed Survivor this much in quite a while.

American Gangster
Ladies and Gentlemen, the perfect movie. :| :| :| I should assume every 4 star review I see equals a perfect movie? Perfect rating doesn't necessarily mean a perfect movie. For the record, I've given about 20 some odd movies a perfect rating, so I guess you can say I'm not extremely picky when it comes to giving a movie a perfect rating. I'm fine with that. And saying Josh Brolin > Javier Bardem = LOL Sure Chigurh was quite the one note character but Bardem perhaps gave us one of the best villains in the history of cinema.

American Gangster
I finally saw this movie today. I'm going to have to agree with Fox's assessment (and then some). I loved this movie and I too give a perfect rating of 10/10.

The Oscar Movie

Ron Paul's Candidacy May Transform the GOP
Ron Paul as a third party candidate could possibly have an effect on some states. There are no positives here for the GOP.

Terminator Salvation
I'd rather see Bale do something else.

Jimmy Rollins = NL MVP
I bet if he had hit 28-29 homers instead of 30, he would have received less votes. But congrats to him anyways.

American Gangster
Scorsese is overrated altogether. I have trouble calling the director who made one of my favorite movies of all time overrated. His movies are all extremely well done. I think I've got more of an appreciation for him and his full body of work than anything else. When you look at all the other filmmakers out there today, he's one of the best.

Favorite Westerns
I brought up Shawshank because I was pointing out the relationship between Eastwood and Freeman. Which isn't (and isn't supposed to be) the bond between Robbins and Freeman had in Shawshank. Basically, I don't understand what your expectations were for Freeman's character, as his character didn't need to be a Little Bill or a William Munny type persona.

American Gangster
That's some pretty high praise. I know you don't care for Goodfellas and I know you're a big fan of Scarface, but where would you rank this movie in the genre that these three movies fit into? Is this the best gangster film you've ever seen? I haven't seen it yet. Great write-up again, btw.

Favorite Westerns
Well I can't even begin to debate your personal preferences for casting, etc. but just remember that there is more to the film than just that. :thumbup I had no idea. :| Putting an actor in a role they can't handle is pretty much a flaw in a film to me. I fail to see how Morgan Freeman could have been miscast in the role. His character served one purpose, bring out the past demons of Eastwood's character (and then finally releasing them towards the film's climax). Maybe you were expecting a 'Shawshank' type bond between the two but that was never the full purpose. The ending is what elevated the film for me. Btw, can we stop these "sorry for hurting your feelings because I disagree with you" comments? The best part about talking movies is that you can shoot down other people thoughts and opinions while at the same time be shot down. It's the only civil and most satisfying way. :mischief

Favorite Westerns
Not a big fan of Westerns on the whole but High Noon is one of my favorite movies ever. Unforgiven is very good. Does Dances With Wolves count as a Western? It takes place in the West, and has Indians and stuff. I like that one, too. And, um, City Slickers. Most of the other Westerns I've seen have made very bored, and those include classics like Shane and The Searchers. And Tombstone. The Searchers is boring?

Favorite Westerns
Unforgiven The Searchers Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Treasure of the Sierra Madre (might be stretching it here) High Noon A Fistful of Dollars and I really liked this year's 3:10 to Yuma.

With today's discussion in the 3:10 to Yuma thread, I thought I'd be a good idea to start this thread. I'll post my favorites up shortly.
