No. Miggy will be playing third base. That's his position and he'll never move again. He's our superstar. You don't ask your superstar to move from his natural position so that Wes Helms plays there instead. Superstars change positions.......Alex Rodriguez is the best short-stop of all-time and he's playing third base. So you would rather play Chris Aguila in left........even if he's hitting a weak .220 over Wes Helms?

I think Wes Helms will provide protection against a young player flopping. If Jacobs, Willingham or even Aguila can't handle a starting position I think Helms steps in. I'm against starting him at 3B, but it might become necessary if no one steps up in LF. I know everyone here wants Cabrera to play 3B, but if no one steps up there....I think Cabrera might still be the LF. If everything goes as planned he probably is the #1 pinch-hitter. He can also play 1B if Jacobs flops or platoon with him if he has trouble with lefties.

The Devil Rays will look at the Marlins and see how desparate they are for position players......unless somehow Reed or Aguila can handle CF. Gathright is viewed as a starting CF in the major-leagues, so the fact that he's down on the Devil Rays food chain doesn't really matter. The new Devil Rays management isn't like the old one, or they would have traded Gathright, Huff and Lugo the way the Marlins tore up their team......but they're holding out for quality pitching that can make their pitching staff now.

It should be wide open. Remember how weak the outfield currently looks right now. Hermida is set in RF, but LF and CF are wide open. If Aguila and Reed start in left and center.....the Marlins will have trouble scoring runs. If Willingham is below-average defensively at catcher he should play LF.

I was a season-ticket holder in 2003 and 2004 when the Marlins deserved my money and I went to all 81 games both years and every playoff game. I was at Yankee Stadium for Game Six and watched the Marlins party on their field......so I don't want to hear your garbage about me being a Devil Rays fan. I also never cried about the heat or the rain. I've been at day games during the week where maybe 200 people actually showed up...so who do you think you are to criticize me? Unless you maintain you flew up to Chicago for the three "home games" played there in 2004 once again you are either lieing or you didn't mean what you said. You see, the Marlins only played 78 games at PPS in 2004. Either way it seems like everytime you post something here your credibility sinks further and further into the mud. :thumbdown 78 home games then.....my bad. Every home game played at Dolphins Stadium for two years. How many did you go to Marlins 2003? Only way I trade Olsen is if we get Jeremy Reed from Seattle in a miracle trade. No doubt. This proably deserves its own thread. Reed is significantly better than Gathright...so it is frustrating to hear us potentially overpaying for Joey and not even trying to trade for Reed, who has the potential to be the great Def CF/leadoff guy that could complete our offense. If were going to make a painful trade with good pitching prospects, make it for a guy who's got true allstar potential like Reed not Joey G. For Reed, it would cost something like Petit and Olsen.....would you pay that?

You're right......it's about how well they play in their new city. They have been talking to Florida cities to keep the media off their back....that's all.

If anyone has a right to be disappointed by the effort the Marlins have put forward to put the team they will have for the next few years before they move out of town.....it would be someone like me that has lined their pockets with cash.

As cool as it would be to have Gathright out in CF on Opening Day I would have to agree with most and say that it wouldnt make much sense for us in the long run. With that said.......we're in deep you know what if we have Aguila or Reed as our opening day CF. How about Reed AND Aguila in LF and CF......think about that awhile. If Willingham catches (which I hope he doesn't) it will be Reed and Aguila. It's possible that Andino, Amezaga, Reed and Aguila are all in the starting line-up.....now that is scary.

Minor-league pitchers could potentially be great..........the point I was making is.......Scott Olsen is not great right now. He could be great, good or awful.....we don't know. "great" is reserved for pitchers that have proven it at the major league level. Clemens, Glavine, Maddux, Pedro, Randy Johnson.........just a few examples of "great" pitchers.

I would trade Olsen if there was a need or there was a compelling reason (read a chance to contend) but there isn't, especially in a trade that fetches another second baseman who so far hasn't proven he's going to be anything other than a utility player with limited if any power. Acquiring Gathright would be terrific in my opinion but since we won't be contending (and for that matter neither will the perrenially cellar-dwelling D'Rays) in 2006 to what purpose? There is no reason to overpay. Certainly not now. If Baldelli comes back healthy by the end of spring training and Huff breaks camp still a D'Ray, the TB argument about Gathright's importance goes right out the window and with him battling with Gomes and Hollins for playing time, someone will pick him up at a steep discount to today's perceived value. I think a trade like this would really help both teams. Gathright would start in CF for the Marlins and Green could start at 2B if Ramirez and Uggla aren't ready for prime-time, or in LF if Reed isn't ready. The Devil Rays don't need Green anymore. Rivas and Wigginton are gonna chew up all his playing time. Olsen would move into their starting rotation as long as his bad elbow holds up and Kensing might help them out too, but Kensing has fallen out of favor for the Marlins. So what does everyone think?

I know he'll be on the roster all year, but he might be over-matched too. He might. The Marlins should really be bringing in more bodies to compete with the young players in case they just aren't ready. To throw them to the wolves could destroy them.

Girardi should worry about "on the field" business. What's the difference if a player is clean shaven or looks like Johnny Damon did......the only question should be.....can this guy play? Clean shaven players are no better than players with beards or long hair. This is just Girardi trying to show everyone who's in charge.....when all he had to do was look at the nameplate on his desk that says "manager".

So who do you play at SS? Andino, Amezaga or Reese? And if Reese plays SS, who plays 2B? Uggla, Amezaga or Andino? In a perfect scenario, you could let Ramirez play the whole year in the minors......but the Marlins really have limited alternatives.
