2013 Fantasy Baseball
I got an email saying the draft is tonight at 6:30 but the league is not full and the draft will be pushed back if it isn't. What's up with that?

As a Georgetown student who has many friends attending FGCU, you can only imagine how I feel right now. Remind them you actually got into college.

The rotation of pitchers works- when there are pitchers available. In a league of 14, there shouldn't be halfway decent pitchers sitting there week after week to gobble up and thrown into your lineup for 15+ pitcher starts. Last year I played that game and played matchups and was able to show it is effective in my other league. It's stopped now, because it became a battle everyday to scoop up so and so against the brewers, then drop him once his game started to pick up this guy against the Mets and so on. As far as shrewd moves through the waiver wire and FA, this still rewards them--- but i also reward those who had faith in that player all along. Lets say Beinfest takes a late round flyer on Jermey Hermida, and is hoping he finally pans out. Then after a 400 start for the month of April I want to pick up Hermida because my OF sucks...its on my for not drafting him. ] There will be players to pick up, just less. It rewards those who put time into drafting their team and thinking about their later rounds and hoping for surprises, and it burns those who didn't put much effort into the draft. It waters down the talent pool, i give you that....but there will be players none of us even though of coming out of the woodwork to be impactful players.

Only limit in place is a 200 GS limit for starting pitchers which prevents streaming starters a bit. That should help. I wonder if my last league had that

2013 Fantasy Baseball
Too much emphasis on the draft isn't fun, though, because it decides a winner before the season even starts. I think that being able to manage the waiver wire and free agent pool well should be just as important--if not more so. Being quick just means that you are on top of things--not just casually checking the league because you are in 5 other ones at the same time. I'm more upset about the extra draft time required though. I just made plans to be somewhere Sunday evening and the extra 30 minutes will be a bitch for me. I might have to auto the last 7-8 picks or so. Why should managing a waiver wire and free agent pool be just as important (if not MORE)? That sounds like fantasy football man. You're starting players every day in fantasy baseball. The idea that you can just f*** it up in the draft and correct your whole team is bulls***. It should be important to manage some form of free agency, of course. That's part of fantasy sports. But you should have to pay for your costly mistakes from a draft point of view. None of that stupid cycling pitchers or rushing extra position starts, or catching a hot hand and then dropping him when he cools off... How realistic is it, managing a team, to be able to have an infinite source of players? Each addition to your team should be tactical and carefully thought out. There should be more to an FA pool than just trial and error. You pick up a player that doesn't perform and you should pay for it. You can ask the inverse for all of this too, though. Isn't the idea that you can just draft a good team and not have to worry as much about maintaining it complete BS too? I advocate striking a balance and 10-12 teams has worked the best from my experience. Being able to pull off smart trades, scour the FA pool, and being smart with waiver priority are important dynamics of fantasy. These are the things that keep the other owners active. If you place too much emphasis on the draft, it's more likely that people will just bail out mid-season if they aren't high in the standings. Obviously that is no fun. And there absolutely are consequences too making poor decisions in those areas. I know I've picked up FAs because they were hot and kept them longer than I should have because it lowered my score. Trading and add/drops require just as much skill as drafting. Usually the people who say otherwise are those who are in 5 leagues at once and don't want to have to closely monitor all of their FA and waiver pools. I'm sorry, but you should be rewarded for drafting well. If you start with a crap foundation it's your fault. If a team starts with a great foundation, it's all te owners fault for not playing the game right. I'm also in favor of a 3 transaction a week limit, but I don't know if that's already in. Rotating pitchers in fantasy baseball is garbage to me.

Waters down the talent and probably adds 30 minutes to the draft time. Not a fan, but you're the boss, Makes it more important to draft a good team, i like it. I don't like when teams draft poorly and make the playoffs because their entire team is off the waiver wire or FA pool.

Wsvn 7 did the same thing. All the hate for the marlins makes me love them more. They did something incredible for me last Monday - and ive been trying to make a thread about it but haven't had the chance because of all the hour in putting into work. I'll try to yet it up soon.

There seats were on Stub Hub all season, from April 4th on IIRC- first row- section 9 and at $300-500 a pop (Flucuated depending on teams). I almost bought a pair for a mets game. I didn't put 2 and two together before, I don't doubt they wanted to go- but I just realized it was only to games they couldn't sell. They didn't sell many and tried to get out of the contract now. Pathetic.

2012-2013 Florida Panthers/NHL Thread
You can't set up plans with a specific team in mind just based upon speculation. You can't say "off-season plan. Trade Jovo to the Islanders.". That requires a willing 2nd party. You make plans without that. Always assume you don't get what you want. The isles will want that- they don't want to spend cap floor money. If the panthers proposed it, and the NHL can't veto it, I'm sure it'll happen. The panthers just need to want the cap space at the expense of trading their captain and pissing on the goodwill they had gained last year in signing him. That's just not true though. You're onto something, but you're not the Islanders. You can't make decisions for them. You can say "try and trade him to New York because that's potentially something they'd look into." You can't say "trade him to New York, it will happen." You have no saying power whatsoever. You must not know how the internet works . If it's on the internet it must be true.... Bonjour!

Classic buyer's remorse. I've gathered a quote from Mr. Leon on twitter: RT @RemorsefulBuyer "I wish I was little bit taller I wish I was a baller" If only he had a girl that looked good, so I can call her.

They signed a two year agreement? They got a verbal commitment to be moved after one year if they didn't like their seats? They deal in contracts all day in real estate? Why didn't those two morons get it in writing. They get whatever comes to them, both the 25k bill and the seats they are committed to buy. They are manipulators trying to take advantage of a bad situation to skip out on the bill.

Okay so after careful observation, a player that retires on a 35+ contract counts against the cap but does not get paid. If/when Jovo retires (hopefully at the end of the season), it does no impact to us. It's a very positive thing. All of his money is freed up for spending, although unfortunately that doesn't mean the team actually has to spend it. But it's there... Isles would trade for him, ask him to not show up or file retirement but rather not report to be suspended indefinitely. Counts against cap floor, they don't have to pay him. Just the way that big uncut Wang likes it. When was the last time Charles Wang cut his hair.

I'd rather see Japan win or the Netherlands instead. The DR game left me with such a sour taste in my mouth and the Puerto Ricans swear they aren't American or American Citizens ( at the game and some outside of it.) Bleep them both for now. Go Quakes!
