First of all, he's hardly DHed for the Tigers. He's been almost entirely a position player for them. He's been a minus defender, but his bat more than makes up for it. He was a 7 WAR player for the last two seasons. He easily could have played in the NL for the last 5 seasons, which probably would have been about the length of a Marlins extension. They made a terrible decision by not buying out his arbitration and extending him for a few years. He made 23 errors at his primary position and refused to lose weight until he was being traded--- I don't give a shit what you say- those are the facts. The Cabrera situation was a clusterf***. The Marlins asked Cabrera to lose weight and they'll discuss a contract. He didn't lose weight, he actually gained more, and slowly was eating himself off the infield. When the Marlins traded him, he finally started to lose weight and was able to stay at 1B... but he was an elite 3B if he kept his body in shape. When the Marlins traded him I understood, because he was a gluttonous alcoholic who thought the Marlins owed him more then they did. I'll try to find articles that are 5 years old collaborating the "Lose Weight, make money" things, but the fact remains- he was slowly going to be a AL DH signed to an NL Club the way things were going. I wish he would have stayed in shape, played a few more years here and moved on then but it didn't happen.
