You guys are losing sight of the fact teams are willing to give up the future for players who have rental written allover them. If i'm a team in contention and rebuilding (ARIZONA, FLORIDA, OAKLAND, MINNESOTA) I'm taking the gamble on him. He's cheap in terms of the future, and he's cheap on the payroll. With out clauses such as a "Shuddup or get out" clause they are in a win win situation overall. With Ramirez coming in, its win now- or pay for trading Hermida and prospects in 2009 when your left with 2 single a prospects years from producing. Heck, I still don't know why the Royals, Mariners, Orioles, or Pirates still havent brought him in to showcase him. You may not get much for him, but you bring him in with an understanding he's earnign his right to play for another team in contention- he should be a great pickup. Your pretty much paying 380k for a prospect or two. I'm sure the Yanks or the Rays will take him if he can prove he's not a cancer or a freak show for the media.

I wonder with all this talk about Manny Ramirez and Jayson Bay being the two best LF's in the market why Barry Bonds name hasn't even surfaced. Face it, most teams can't or won't part with the pieces nessisary to get a deal done, but they also refuse to open the door to sign Barry for the ML minimum of 360k. Really puts into persective the claims by Barry's Agent that collusion is keeping him out of the game. With it being said it will take a week for him to get re acclimated to MLB pitching, i can't understand why someone will sell some of their future MLB starters for a rental, Marlins included. Bring in Bonds for 360k. Better then giving up a Hermida or Tucker for 2 months of Manny. (Although I want a deal for Manny to go through). A's have those classic Uni's and those great years in the 70's and 80's. Vida Blue, Reggie Jackson, Dennis Eckersly, Ricky Henderson, and the staff to have in the early 2000's- Hudson, Mulder, Zito- then Harden, Haren, and Blanton. If they had a halfway decent chance of a big league payroll- they could easily have had the best team of the decade. They sent off Haren, Harden, Mulder, Hudson and Zito. Think of those 5 in a rotation. Although to point out. I think they Traded Mulder for Haren. Not sure. Wait til they develop another staff.
