Manny in Florida?

Featured Replies

I know this might sound ludicrous but i was listening to Mike and Mike this morning and Buster Olney said we are one of the teams inquiring about him but that the sox would have to absorb most of the contract so take that for what its worth. What would you guys think about him here? I would love it and it would most def help out ticket sales so im all for it.

He would be a great boost to the attendance that is for sure, but i highly doubt that the Fish will fork over all the talent that it would take to get Manny.

It would be awesome!

I doubt he would want to come to Florida though and he would want to take too may "days off" for my liking.

no thanks.

Didn't we make a play for him a few years ago? If I remember correctly, Loria really likes him. Which scares me. I don't think he's the guy you want influencing a young team.

Do you honestly think he could influence any player in a negative way? How?

remember earlier in the year Gammons reported that Willingham would fit perfect for the Red Sox. Maybe they can workout some type of deal with him as long as they take one 90% of Manny contract. I dont think Manny will do that bad in LF at Pro Player b/c its of the wall. He can play balls of the wall like fenway.

Your probably right. It's just the whole Manny being Manny thing. I don't really want Hanley watching this guy loafing around in left. HR already seems to lack focus in the field at times. I'm not saying that he'll do as Manny does, but it can't help.

I think Manny gets a bad rap because he's not a wiz defensively, and obviously, he's a little out there. People think he loafs around because he went into the Green Monster twice during pitching changes. Should he have done it? Probably not, but it's not like he went into the wall while the ball was heading into LF. And then obviously there's the cutoff play, which was just more boneheaded than lazy. If I can remember correctly, Damon didn't and still doesn't have the best of arms, and he was all the way at the wall. Manny probably thought he would have a better chance of getting the ball in quicker if he cut it off as opposed to having it bounce 6 times before it reached the SS. It just looked funny and stupid because he had to dive for it, but it wasn't a product of being lackidasial or trying to jeopordize the team.

If I'm not mistaken, I've heard Manny is a very hardworker and constantly works to better himself. I think people get the impression he's lazy because he's loosey-goosey and likes to have fun out there. I honestly think he's a good guy who works hard, albeit a little crazy, but gets a bad rap because of the whole "Manny being Manny" thing. He obviously has a prolific bat, and he's probably not much worse than Hammer in LF. I could be wrong though so feel free to correct me. It's not like Hanley or someone else are going to take notes on how to become Manny.

As for the trade, since the Red Sox seem to really want to trade him, there might be a possibility that the Red Sox will take lesser prospects and still absorb a nice chunk of his salary. I'm not saying we can give up crap to get him, but maybe not a boatload of solid prospects either.

So, I'm for the trade if we have to give up Hammer and a couple of decent prospects and maybe having the Sox pay half of the remaining salary. If think he's due 20 million for the season, and since more than half the season is over, the most we have to pay assuming they cover half, is around 4-5 million which isn't too bad. Again, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm done now...

That would be cool. But I don't see it happening. Hopefully, I'll get proven wrong.

ManRam is a former WS MVP and a solid bat in LF consistantly.

Hammer is a Former C/SS/1b who plays LF and is likely to reinjure himself befroe the year is done.

With that said, I like Hammer but Manny is Manny. He's one of the top LF's in the game and he can just flat out rake. I would love to see what he can do in the NL.

Maybe Hammer, Tucker and some not needed prospects for manny and a chunck of his extention paid off would be nice.

No, Loria cannot afford him next season.

We're not playing for next season, we're playing for now. I want to see a third world series now, dammit!

No, Loria cannot afford him next season.

That's obvious....

Depends on what we would give up... but I would be all for Manny being a Marlin.

we care about this season...not next. if we have to give up tucker or something like that then so be it. tucker might be closer of future but we are thinknig now
