Manny in Florida?

Featured Replies

We are only a Miami Herald article away from this being an ARod to the Marlins type of forum again for the next 4 days.

Wow, I remember those rumors too... does anyone remember back in 1997, there were rumors about us getting Mark McGwire, except he didn't want to move to Florida? Imagine if that happened instead of Dutch...

Big Mac, A-Rod, now Manny... were there any other huge names rumored to come here I'm forgetting?

we care about this season...not next. if we have to give up tucker or something like that then so be it. tucker might be closer of future but we are thinknig now

No. That's dumb thinking.

Manny isn't even what this team NEEDS.

This team NEEDS a catcher and lefty specialist in the bullpen.

Manny is 36 years old, and he will be gone after this upcoming year. He's also an idiot.

We would have to give up a lot more than you guys are saying to get him, as well.

I remember the Big Mac rumors like it was yesterday. It was between us and the Cardinals, and the Cardinals package was absolute sh*t, I was so pissed. We could have beaten it! I forget the rumored names though...

Another huge name: Vlad Guerrero. That one hurt cuz I remember the front page of the Sun Sentinel sports section saying we had signed him, I was so freakin' stoked! That would have been huge.

what i meant to say is if it takes tucker to be included to do it to help us out. tucker will be good but someday and if we have a chance to get manny then i say do it. after seeing hammer misplay that and not playing that well. and boston wants to get rid of manny fast apparently

Hanley and Manny are really good friends from Hanley's Red Sox days, so maybe Hanley could influence Manny to coming here.

Don't worry...Manny will misplay many balls in the OF, as well.

Only when he does it, it's portrayed as "Manny being Manny."

Give me guys who we know 100% want to be in the lineup, for one of the biggest games of the year.

Manny gets a free pass with the media, at all times. It's just "Manny being Manny." I wonder what would've happened if someone had said what Manny said the other day...about "willing to play in Iraq." If that would've been someone else, it would've been portrayed as an ignorant cancer to the team. Since it's Manny..."It's just Manny being Manny."

We're fine with what we've got. Just give us a catcher and another arm in the pen to get lefties out. We'll be contending till the end, with a good farm system for the long-term, as well.

The BoSox will not trade Manny they will keep him til the end of the season and then will let him go. Even though Manny would boost our ticket sales and will be an upgrade over Willingham (offensively) i just don't see the FO going after him it will take a lot of prospects for a three month rental

I want to be in the Marlins lineup, 100%, i'll even take the league minimum! Talent >>>>> Heart+desire+how much you care times 100.

One of my all time favorite quotes in a movie is from Morgan Freeman in Million Dollar Baby:

show me a fighter who's nothing but heart,

and i'll show you a man waiting for a beating.

Plus, they are both Dominican, live in Weston, imagine them playing together. Loria loves money and if we get Manny, the first few games would be a sellout no matter what. Bring him in!

As much as i love MAnny playing for us i don't think Loria will bring him in

I'm just curious, he has club options for the next 2 years I believe. Do those become gauranteed if he is traded? Even if we did trade for him, would those club options have any affect on us for next year?

what makes everyone think that if we trade for manny ramirez people would show up?

i'd love to think that but sell outs? please. the marlins could trade for the pope and people still wouldn't give a sh*t until playoff time, unfortunately.

that being said i'd love to see people respond to a commitment from the owner but, i'm not sure that would happen, the past says no.

Thats a catch-22 though, when has an owner shown any type of serious commitment to this franchise for more than a season or two? Its like if a parent constantly abandoned their kids, but then expected them to show loyalty to them because they'd turn around and pick them back up again.

Not saying Manny would = sellouts, but its unfair to claim that these are bad fans, the longest we've ever had with a competing team is 2 or 3 seasons, and we still had to lose several key parts of the 2003 team before it was totally dismantled by 2006.

yeah that's my favorite comment too.

I can't stand him and I'm never quite sure whether it's just because he plays for the BoSox.

What's his OPS?

:lol

Well, that just made me laugh. :notworthy

Top priority right now is a veteran catcher, or just a catcher who has spent at least one full season in the big leagues. Can't get by on Baker/Hoover/Treanor/Rabelo. There's really no need to rent a diva left fielder (Manny and Barry) when what we really need is a friggin catcher that knows what he's doing out there.

I personally cant see the marlins aquiring Manny from the Red sox.

For one, him alone gets payed almost the same amount as the marlins as a whole. I also dont think we would be willing to part with 3 top level prospects to pick up a 36 year old slugger who for one has a sh*tty attitude and a enormous ego. I would be totally against bringing Manny to Florida.

I hate to add fuel to this fire, but I really don't think it would take 3 top level prospects to get Manny. The Red Sox want him goneand they will more than like place him on waivers and hope someone picks up his contact.

Now maybe 1 top level prospect is worth them paying half of his contract, but not sure.

Ok you're right maybe not 3 top level prospects but atleast 2 and they would atleast want another player. Im thinking they would like at the least 3 players in return for one of the best hitters in the game.

It totally depends on how much of the contract they would pay. If they really wanted a prospect from us...they would eat a large portion I am sure, but I don't know who exactly they would want in return for paying a large part. They are loaded at every position, including SP.

If they didn't pay his contract, we could basically get him for zero top flight prospects, maybe a C level guy, if that.

If the redsox dont pay for atleast half of his salary, i cant see how the marlins would be interested in any way.

Maybe Hanley can pay his salary also???
