Manny in Florida?

Featured Replies

It doesn't matter anyway, cause we are NOT getting Manny. If we do, I'll eat my own hat (which shall be made out of cake......)

Seriously, Manny Ramirez would not boost ticket sales. Delgado didn't boost ticket sales, Fredi's Cuban background didn't boost ticket sales.

If its about tickets they should get Barry Bonds; that would be a show.

The Red Sox appear serious about trading slugger Manny Ramirez and are talking to the Phillies and two other teams about a deal, according to people familiar with the talks.

The Phillies may be the front-runner for Ramirez, who has told people he probably will OK a deal to Philadelphia if the teams can agree on a trade.

It isn't yet known what players would be going back to Boston, but left fielder Pat Burrell is having a similar year statistically (.277/.400/.585 with 26 HRs and 61 RBIs in 103 games for Burrell; .304/.400/.538 with 20 HRs and 68 RBIs in 98 games for Ramirez) and could be a logical fit. He has a no-trade clause but has told the Phillies in the past that he'd be willing to waive it for the Red Sox and Yankees.

If a deal can be completed, the addition of Ramirez would give Philadelphia one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball. The Phillies offense has been struggling lately and could use a boost from the Cooperstown-bound Ramirez, who has a longstanding relationship with Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, who was Ramirez's hitting coach when the two were in Cleveland.

It is believed that to get Ramirez to sign off on the trade, his $20 million club option for 2009 will be dropped, allowing him to become a free agent at season's end. Ramirez is making $20 million this year as well.

It is also believed that the Dodgers and the Marlins are the other teams involved in the Ramirez Sweepstakes. The Marlins appear to be a longshot.

While no deal involving Ramirez has been consummated, it appears to be gaining steam

Every year, we are randomly linked to some trade rumors involving some all star type player who the Marlins will never acquire.

Come on now, Pudge in 2003 :-P

6:52pm: Jon Heyman says the Phillies might be the frontrunner for Manny. Ramirez will want his $20MM options eliminated upon a trade.

The Dodgers are also involved, with the Marlins surfacing as a longshot.

9:55pm: Jayson Stark attempts to douse the Manny flames, getting denials (again) from the Dodgers and Phillies.

So, does that mean the Marlins are still in the bidding for Manny?

The Sox really want Willingham, even though hes the only guy on our team who doesnt K every at bat. They also would be willing to pick up the rest of mannys contract.

Hanley

??

Cantu

Manny

??

Sound Nice to me.

Pick up the rest of the contract? :lol come on now. Think that one through...

The phillies wont do it, they are cheaper then the marlins.

2:36pm: Joel Sherman of the New York Post has the Dodgers in the lead for Manny. The Red Sox would eat most or all of the $7MM remaining on Ramirez's deal,

They are tired of him and hes been doing things on purpose to get traded. He doesnt run to 1st anymore when he hits the ball. He wants out and the Sox are desperate to get him outta there.

Late last night, Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus had an interesting rumor:

One good source told me that he had heard that the Marlins were involved, willing to give up Jeremy Hermida and Boston-area product Jeff Allison, but I couldn't confirm this. I just don't see this deal getting done.

I imagine the Red Sox would be willing to eat all of Ramirez's salary to get a player like Hermida. As Carroll said, it seems unlikely.

saw that - only problem is who plays RF this season for us? Manny? Willingham? Barf.

If they Trade hermida for a 2 month rental, i'll lose my hat driving to dolphin stadium to smack beinfest. Hermida can still develop into the ML player we all think he will be.

Allison, Bah- lets get him home so he can continue to fix his life for the better around friends and family

i would like that trade for sure but i doubt the red sox can replace manny with f***ing hermida lmao

We've waiting for that for a while now... I wouldn't mind parting with Hermida for a 2 month rental of Manny... not at all.

At first glance I wasn't crazy about the idea of trading Hermida for Manny...BUT with a lot of players being arbitration eligible after the season, i'm guessing one of either Willingham or Hermida will be moved at some point. Ramirez certainly would be a huge offenisve upgrade. Without any other moves, you'd still have Hammer, Maybin, and Ross in the OF next season, plus the draft pick compensation for Manny. I doubt it happens, but it is something I would definately at least have to consider.

i agree i think that be pretty sick trade for us and a good bat in the lineup that doesnt strike out every other at bat like the rest of our team...only problem is that its a stupid trade for them to make....where would hermida go for them and how would they explain to the boston fans that o we traded away manny for a .255 hitting RF

We'd have the worst defensive OF in baseball.

Outs = single

Single = Double

Double = Triple

Josh Willingham and Allison for Manny? In a second, and I'd hope the Marlins would be willing to eat half the contract, Hermida? Hell no.
