Honestly feel like Gabe Kapler was already hired for this job, and he's been waiting and learning how Bendix sees roster construction and players usages. If thats the case, I like what they did, hiring a guy who took a year off to learn and adapt to a new Front Office. If they didn't hire Kapler for that- I really hope they go after Mark Kotsay. Some part of me wishes they can bring in a manager with a proven track record like Madden or Girardi. Heck, maybe bring Fat fuckin Freddi back.

Pretty interesting to see even with Shoehi in town breaking into the 50/50 club, the beloved Dodgers in town and the team sellign tickets after the 50/50 happened they still barely cleared 17000 fans. Those Shohei 50/50 tickets were selling like hot cakes the night of. $1000 for a used ticket on ebay. Easily sellers sold out of tickets in 30 mins at 350 a pop. Wonder if the marlins didn't include those "souvenir sales" in their numbers or if it was just that bad of an attended game.

It's been widely reported that it was a weight lifting competition, but in actuality - and I can not confirm this definitely- they all tried to pick up Peter's BentDix when it clearly said team lift on the side of his package in an unfortunate weight lifting accident. Bruce Sherman has also retroactively placed on the IL with "Muscle Spasms, Involuntary Flatulence" in what the Marlins team doctors are saying are not related to the weight lifting incident. He's expected to be on the 60 day IL retroactive to August 2nd. In a corresponding move, the Marlins have called up Gabe Kapler to help with any heavy weight packages in the intermediate future.

Yes, thats the freaky part. Got his autograph in 1998/1999 by the bullpen in Pro Player, a few days later I was in NY at Shea and saw him again. He recognized me, gave some playful banter about my Mets hat and Marlins Jersey- then went to shake my hand. THAT was the moment I realized he had 6 fingers. He wiggled that thing and it freaked me the hell out, we both laughed. He showed me the extra digit and I realized what they meant when they said he gets great spin on the ball because of his hand. You can just tell he was happy to be a player and connect with fans. I believe I have pictures from both time I met him that week. I gotta find them.
