He also admitted he dated teenagers. That's the other reason.

I'm one of Pete's biggest fans, absolutely loved the way he played the game, and I wished more of today's players played the game the right way, but plain and simple he broke the rules of baseball. Yes, his accomplishments are legendary but keeping him out of the Hall sends a message to others that the integrity of the sport is more important than any individual.

There is one unforgivable sin in baseball and its WELL KNOWN.

Pete not only violated that rule but lied about it for 30 years.

Pete not being in the Hall of Fame is 100% Pete's fault.

Also RIP.

It’s interesting how the all time leader in hits - Pete Rose and the all time leader in HRs - Barry Bonds, will both most likely never make the hall of fame. Or at least during their lifetimes. Maybe in like 30 years from now we might see Bonds voted in as a special honorary inductee.

Shohei Ohtani has potential to break Bond’s HR record. I don’t really imagine anyone breaking Pete Rose’s all time hits record.

Single season, maybe, but doubtful.

Career, zero chance. 30 years old and has to hit another 538 to do that.

I think it could definitely be possible for his career hypothetically. I could picture Shohei pulling a Tom Brady or Albert Pujols and playing up until around age 45 and still putting up several 20 hr seasons towards the end.

So he needs 538 to break the all time record.

Let’s say over the next 5 seasons he averages 50 HRs a season. That would get him to age 35 and 475 career HRs and then just have 288 HRs remaining. Could go like this:

Age 35 - 42 hr

Age 36 - 39 hr

Age 37 - 34 hr

Age 38 - 29 hr

Age 39 - 25 hr

Age 40 - 25 hr

Age 41 - 21 hr

Age 42 - 20 Hr

Age 43 - 20 hr

Age 44 - 18 hr

Age 45 - 15 hr

Total =  288 hrs

Total for career = 763 Hr new record holder! 😂

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Instead of living as a baseball immortal and banking every HOF while working a cushy studio gig- he had to peddle his scribble for pennies in a Las Vegas Mall.

His biggest punishment from being banned was having to work for a living and play nice to people he absolutely disdained lest he hurt his appearance fees and number of appearances.
