  1. Aaaaaand that is how you kill a nice start.
  2. The power is in our hands.

I can't believe we won that game. Thank you crappy Padres defense!
  4. It's weird how happy I got seeing Alfredo amezaga
  5. David Phelps has been this teams MVP. Said it last week and I'll say it again.
  6. dim replied to Admin's topic in Miami Marlins
    Yay we won
  7. That was as close to a miracle as we will ever see
  8. Don't you dare speak evil about the great one.
  9. So is Phelps in the discussion for team MVP this season? He stepped up huge as a 7th/8th inning guy when the bullpen was struggling early and has become a reliable starter now when we need that most.
  10. You just said Justin Bour had more potential than Giancarlo Stanton. That is an opinion that exists in this world. And the having watched mickey mantle play comment gives me the knowledge that you are one of the old baseball viewers who does the old "eye test" crap and hasn't progressed with new age statistics and ways of evaluating players. Good to know.
  11. Or if you have followed him since he was in single A like I and many people here have you would know his issues with inconsistency have been there since the beginning. He didn't magically become a different hitter.
  12. You are allowed to think stanton is overpaid. It's making the generic dumb fan argument without realizing how things actually work that makes it word vomit
  13. More word vomit. It's like you passed everything written and created your own text.
  14. Even if no at least it will be fun. Chris Johnson putting up a negative WAR is no fun.
  15. Nobody outside of Mike trout and clayton kershaw are even close to worth that money. But it was either offer that deal or stanton would be a dodger in 2017. That deal is going to suck the last 7 years when he's making over 200 million. That has already been explained. But right now he's on a 6 year 105 million deal, which was a bargain for a player of his ability. I call Donna an idiot because calling to release stanton shows a lack of basic understanding for how baseball works. I firmly stand by my belief that the deal was done in such a way that Loria knows he won't be owner when it kicks in. He'll pay for the 6 years, but when the real money kicks in for players like chen, stanton, etc... and guys like ozuna and Fernandez are in line for big pay raises, there's going to be a new owner to deal with it.
  16. Tomas Telis is a catcher. His numbers aren't good enough for first base. And Xavier Scruggs is not a major league starter. Even a declining a rod will put up better numbers than him right away. Look, this would be a publicity signing if we were 10 games out and looking for a way to boost attendance. However, we literally just found out our starting 1B is out until September and lost our lineup centerpiece as well. A Rod, despite what many think, is the best player left on the market. What Admin said is true. It is low risk, high reward. It's on 200K money wise. If he sucks then Bour takes over his spot if he's healthy in September (or Johnson if he isn't healthy). If we miss the playoffs then that is what people expected anyway. But there's still a tiny glimmer that something is left and it's our job to see what. I remember ichiro being awful last year and years before. People here wanted him cut (and rightfully so on stats). But he turned it around this year. We need a power bat in the lineup bad. A Rod could be that power bat. Even if it is a 10% chance of him being a positive contribution, the team has to take a chance and see.
  17. For the Dodgers is was just an example. They've lost far more than just him. I think half their team was on the DL at one point.
  18. Well that was a personal level you shouldn't have taken this argument to DTrain. Has no place no this board.
  19. Read the argument leading before you scream idiot. I'm not even gonna waste explaining again to a person who refuses to finish a post.
  20. As for the arguments of hindsight, I've admitted I liked a ton of 2015 moves to win now. I wanted that Latos deal and the morse signing and would do those again not knowing what I do now. I think salty was grabbed for cheaper than market value. Those moves didn't work out. It happens. Does that excuse the front office from accountability for poor risks? No. I'm not upset with messing up the farm in 2015. I got that. It's the poor drafting to not fill back up that farm. It's trading the decent players left in that farm to get players who are not improvements to what we already have. It's making the wrong free agent choices (morse, salty, chen, etc) that have left the team not spending on the RIGHT guys. Look, they've done good. Ozuna is a product of great coaching who shouldn't be as good as he is. Yelich is signed to the best contract in baseball. They kept dietrich and raised his value and gave conley a starting job when most would've left him in AAA. But right now depth is a big problem, and it was a predictable problem that would happen. For that the team deserves blame.
  21. Fuck that. You don't get to excuse 2+ years of poor decision making and it leading to no backup plans because of a single injury. I'm pretty sure teams who built strong squads all around have won the world series after losing a great player. The Dodgers lost freaking clayton kershaw, the best player in the last 10 years not named trout (not to mention a ton more) and are in the wild card bc they built a damn good squad, top to bottom. Saying we can't win without stanton and excusing us if we don't make the playoffs on that is taking deserving blame away from a front office and organization that has left the team in a poor position to deal with strife like injuries and underperformance.
  22. I followed Paddacks minor league career (as short as it has been) and loved him as a prospect. He was basically giving 5 IP 0 ER games every night the weeks before the trade. That said he was at an incredibly low level (despite him looking good and he had a sick off speed pitch) and he's not 18. Getting him for 2 years of rodney is basically what his value is at the moment of the trade so it wasn't an overpay. It also isn't as bad as the cashner deal since it isn't a rental. Would I have done the trade then? No. I've railed for 2 years about destroying the farm and I wouldn't have given up a promising pitcher early in his development. That said it wasn't an overpay and the fact paddack got injured and is getting TJ means there was damage already in his arm and it was only a matter of time before he needed to get it with miami. The Dodgers, and Padres trades (Cashner and Dee) are the ones that have hurt the most. The astros trade sucks too given what cosart became. Add the reds trade in 2015 and the recent cervenka trade and the team is on a bad streak of trades. They keep hurting a farm system already hemoraging. Down the line I don't see the paddack trade hurting. I like paddack but he's an unknown while rodney was a win now move. It's that trade mixed with everything else that drives me insane.
  23. A good minor league system leaves you with options who are ready or near ready to get the call up by august and September. Marlins have gotten really lucky with injuries until now so something like this was just waiting to happen. I stated before that the Dodgers have been the unluckiest team in baseball injury wise and have found a way to get by. I'm sure there's others this yr without me looking. It's all about preparing and setting yourself up with contingency options. The one success we had was dietrich available to fill in for Gordon. Outside of that and maybe ichiro we do not have a position where we have an above replacement level player ready to go. I'm annoyed because it is obvious to me that 2 years of poor decisions in trades (killing the farm in trades for unproductive players), poor drafting (kolek over rodon, not hitting on any draft picks in the last 3 plus years), poor free agency choices to spend on (salty, morse, trading for latos, soon to be chen), and not spending the money to fill the minors with international players. This team has been maybe 3 years in the making. A solid team, but one with so little depth that it ends up looking like a nice house that's a small thunderstorm from being torn apart. That can't be how a playoff team is built and it has been obvious to me for years now (and is something I've openly vented about). Again, this team is not allowed to cry injuries if this season is lost. A good GM and front office would know the holes that this squad has created.
  24. Oh and you're an idiot. This entire post is giant word vomit.
