Iraqi Reporter Hurls Both Shoes at Bush
I would certainly like to know what happened to him for the last 4-5 days before he suddenly showed up in a regular jail... The incident happened Monday. He was in a regular jail Wednesday morning. Hardly 4 or 5 days. Doesn't seem abnormal considering he threw something at the President, even if he were an American pulling that kind of stunt in America.

Iraqi Reporter Hurls Both Shoes at Bush
Yeah, except now he's already disappeared into the 'system' of detention in Iraq, which isn't a whole lot better. Actually he's already re-appeared in an Iraqi jail. He's complaining that he injured his arm when he was tackled after throwing both shoes.

Will the World end in 2012?
On December 21, 2012 the Mayan Calender states the world will end after the Winter Solistace. I was dicussing this in class and i think its a load of bull and theres not really enough evidence but you know how some people get. What do you guys think, and why? No, it's just the end of another calendar cycle. There are actually many, many more digits the calendar would have to go through before the world ends. The world will end in about six billion years when the Sun bloats into a red giant and swallows up Earth.

Whoa! El Mundo is reporting Cristiano Ronaldo will sign with Real Madrid this summer. Not sure what to make of this story. Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid CR is signed on with Man U through 2012. Unless they're prepared to pay nine figures in transfer fees, this isn't happening. Doesn't UEFA or FIFA have rules regarding tampering? Speaking of Cristiano Ronaldo, he scored a goal in Man U's 5-3 defeat of Gamba Osaka in the Club World Cup semifinal. They face LDU Quito for the world championship Sunday morning (8:30am ET, Fox Soccer).

Marco Borriello, one of the players from AC Milan wants a peek at David Beckham's brat and potatoes. He said as much in an interview, claiming he was curious to see if Beckham was as well-endowed as is suggested in one of his Armani underwear photo shoots.

Arena Football 86'ed...
No, they were actually called the Hooters, then the Bobcats after that. The hilarious thing is that the af2, their independently-managed "minor league", plans on running as scheduled next year. This sucks. No War on I-4 this year.

Fantasy Football Update
Anyone else in the playoffs? I am. In both Yahoo! and ESPN. I lost the last game in both leagues. Ended up being the "away team" (like that matters) in the two-week-long division final in ESPN. At the end of week 14, I was ahead by 9. Going into Monday night, each of us with one left (I have Braylon Edwards, they have the Eagles D/ST), I have a 39-point lead. Safe to say I'm headed to the finals. (EDIT: I ultimately won by 33.) In Yahoo!, I clinched the #2 seed and a first-round bye in the six-team playoff. This week, with nothing left for either of us, I have an 89-89 tie. The first tiebreaker is TD's scored by each team's starters. I have six. They have four. I advanced. The girl that's been talking smack to me...she got the #1 seed, but this week, she's getting blown out by 19 points (EDIT: She lost by 47. Ouch!), and her opponent still had two players to go.

Yanks offer to Burnett
What would be funnier: A) The Yankees fail to get either AJ Burnett or CC Sabathia, and they end up stuck with a rotation consisting of Chien-Ming Wang (and his bum foot), Joba Chamberlain (and his bum elbow), Phillip Hughes, Ian Kennedy and Darrell Rasner. B) The Yankees get both AJ Burnett and CC Sabathia. But AJ's arm gives out, CC's numbers tank due to his conditioning problems, and they end up stuck with a rotation consisting of Chien-Ming Wang (and his bum foot), Joba Chamberlain (and his bum elbow), Phillip Hughes, Ian Kennedy and Darrell Rasner.

Willis could be headed to Boston
Talk about your lose-lose situation. Julio Lugo hasn't come back from being traded away from the Devil Rays in the middle of a career season, and D-Train has had consecutive bad years. Answering why the Red Sox would do it...it's probably the only thing they can get with Lugo's massive contract.

NFL London 2009
Interesting, they actually pulled two major teams for 2009. really surprised by that too. Except Robert Kraft is a part owner in a soccer club out there. That would be the Glazers owning a soccer club "out there". They own Manchester United. Kraft was rumored to be investing in Liverpool, but the team was instead sold to George Gillett, who also owns the Montreal Canadiens and Gillett-Evernham Motorsports. The only soccer team he owns is the New England Revolution, which is definitely not "out there".

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, Houston Dynamo beat C.D. Luis Angel Firpo of El Salvador 1-0 in the home makeup game for their CONCACAF Champions League group stage. That boosted them into the knockout round. The draw for the knockout round quarterfinals will take place next Wednesday, December 10. Pool winners Atlante F.C. (Mexico), Club Santos Laguna (Mexico), UNAM Tigres (Mexico) and C.D. Marathon (Honduras) will be drawn to face pool runners-up C.D.S.C. Cruz Azul (Mexico), the Dynamo, Puerto Rico Islanders (USL-1, qualified via Caribbean Football Union) and Montreal Impact (USL-1, qualified via Canadian Championship). The New England Revolution and C.D. Chivas USA qualified for the preliminary round of the CCL, but both lost their qualifier series. The Revs lost to Joe Public F.C. (Trinidad), 6-1 (2-1, 4-0). Chivas lost to Tauro F.C. (Panama), 3-1 (2-0, 1-1). D.C. United qualified straight to the group stage with the Dynamo, but went 0-1-5, only able to muster a 2-2 draw on the road against Deportivo Saprissa (Costa Rica).

New Stadium won't open until 2012
Playing the entire 2011 season in PR would be the end of the world! Why? A stadium is going to be built in South Florida, so the franchise won't be in jeopardy of leaving town If Wayne [or his replacement] refuses a one year lease, then what other local choices are out there? You could split Tropicana Field with the Rays, like the Giants and Jets in the NFL. Or you could play in Orlando at Wide World of Sports. :mischief

New Stadium won't open until 2012
2012. Isn't the world supposed to end in 2012? If it does and I never get to sit in the new stadium I'm gonna be pissed. lol I can't wait to see the final renderings. I've seen sort of a progression of design and its been interesting to say the least. I just hope they didn't change too much of what I saw last. My final wish is that public transportation becomes readily available to the stadium. I think the ability to use cheap means of getting to and from the stadium is key. Plus that will allow more drinking. :x Yeah I heard that also, that the World is ending in 2012. That sucks, imagine all that wait and we won't even be around to see it Supposedly it's December 2012, so we'll at least get one season of use out of it. :mischief

Fantasy Football Update
Thanks to a big Monday night by Drew Brees (was there ever any doubt?), I rallied back in Yahoo! to win by a point, 92-91. Such a rally was unnecessary in ESPN. That was an utter blowout, a 98-56 win on the backs of big days by Matt Forte and the Bears D. The ESPN playoff picture is a bit muddy (I'm top in my division, but have two teams behind me 1 GB and I'm facing the other division leader this week), but I've clinched a playoff spot and control my own destiny for a bye in Yahoo!.

In an interview, Marcelo Claure has already said how much he dislikes the football lines at futbol stadiums, so he will make sure there will be no football lines during Miami FCB Games. FieldTurf will still be there, but w/e. For me, the location is far, but I'll still make it to a lot of games I don't have a link, but someone reported that Claure gave a Spanish interview where he may have mentioned building a dedicated SSS down the line. Congrats to Columbus Crew on the MLS Cup. Guille gets the MVP award for assisting on all three Crew goals.

The Fictitious $70/hr Meme
$28 an hour is still too much for an assembly line worker, btw and why I buy Japanese cars. Agreed. I never heard this $70/hr figure in my life so the validity of this thread is questionable. However, I was under the impression the wage was $32, not $28. Nevertheless, pre-tax you are looking at close to $60,000. That is an incredibly fair pay rate for an assembly line employee without a college education. I work in education with a four-year degree and I only make $16/hour. The Big 3 wouldn't be in this mess if they didn't make crap cars. I'd rather buy a Corolla or Tacoma manufactured in Fremont, California; a Tundra manufactured in Princeton, Indiana, or San Antonio, Texas; or a Camry manufactured in Georgetown, Kentucky. It's a perfect storm of union overpayment and foreign market restrictions, but the root of the problem is that they manufacture crap.

2008-09 Club Soccer Thread
The twitter that followed the actual speech said two things. 1) The next two expansion teams will be announced before the 2009 season begins. 2) Montreal has dropped out. So that gives Miami a much better chance. :mischief Interesting. I thought Montreal had a strong group. They may not have had the money to spare to both 1) pay the $40m franchise fee (which they were haggling about) and 2) expand their brand-new but woefully-small stadium. Miami and St. Louis are the frontrunners now. Miami has a new stadium already, and St. Louis has one approved already.

Star Trek
I have never been into Star Trek before nor do I know much of the mythology and characters behind it (besides the extreme basics). Will I still be able to appreciate this movie and not be lost while watching it? I wasn't sure if this is a prequel or reboot or whatever. Abrams claims it's not a reboot, but I think it's being made for the purpose of drawing people into the franchise, not to appease hardcore Trekkies. I, for one, like it.
