  1. Ever since the end of the Cold War, the South Ossetians have always resisted annexation with Georgia proper. It was the Soviet Union that carved South Ossetia out of Georgian territory. It was part of Georgia as an autonomous republic, which has been its status ever since. But that was never good enough for the South Ossetians. If Russia wanted to avoid this problem, they should have just taken South Ossetia when they had the chance: when they were the Soviet Union.
  2. This was the perfect time to announce this. The morning of a hurricane hitting New Orleans + Labor Day= this gets nowhere near the play it would get had it occurred on a normal day. That along with the convention stating tomorrow gives this less press then it would have received. I don't think most American's really care if her daughter was pregnant. It would only be an issue if she had an abortion. And at the same time, they have full control over the DailyKOS bullsh*t. They can take that site to school and back. 15 miles through the snow, uphill both ways. :mischief Even moreso with Obama's rebuke :mischief :mischief :mischief

  4. Then why are they about to permit themselves to be annexed by Russia? Independence from Georgian rule. 95%+ are perceived to be loyal to Moscow and their North Ossetian brethren. It's Russia's fault they're in this position. Russia has dominated Georgia for hundreds of years, and settled Russians in what is currently Georgia. Russia, in the auspices of the Soviet Union, made South Ossetia an autonomous part of the Georgian SSR, and Russia threatened full-scale war after the collapse of the Soviet Union to keep it that way.
  5. I've been watching the news on this for the past couple of hours. I am not an Obama supporter or a McCain supporter. I'm registered Independent and have liked John McCain for years. So I guess I'm one of those all important independent voters. My feeling on this is that there is no way McCain knew about this before he made his VP pick. They are spinning it that way now, but if this was known, would it not have been brought up right away? I mean, if she's keeping the baby, the whole world would have known in a month or two. There was also no big groundswell of people wanting her as his VP pick and why in the world would he pick someone who has this kind of baggage? I know everyone on both sides says it is a private issue, but who are they kidding? Maybe 30 or 40 years ago this could have been covered up, but now?? I myself think it is a desire of the extremists at DailyKOS to make the right look as out-of-touch and backward as possible, no matter the cost.
  6. I think a good place to end this is a clip from a Time.com article: It was, more or less, an open secret [in Wasilla, their home]. And everyone was saying the same thing: the governor's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, the father is her boyfriend, and it's really nobody's business beyond that. I happen to agree.
  7. South Ossetia had always desired independence since the downfall of the Soviet Union. Then why are they about to permit themselves to be annexed by Russia?
  8. Really? They had over 34,000 last night? So who was there this time, LL Cool J, or MC hammer? Most people know the Rays only get a major crowd when there is a big name artist for the post game concert. Oh wait, I forgot, when the Red Sox or the Yankees come into town there is always a good crowd. I guess that really doesn't count though, since more than half of the crowd is cheering for the opposing team. Did you ever think that might be a reason why you have better attendance? It should help, considering the Yankees and the Red Sox come to Tropicana field a combined 18 times per season. I also remember the Cubs coming to Tampa during interleague play. Once the Marlins get a new stadium, their attendance numbers will soar. I don't see that happening for the Rays though. Nobody. It was the Orioles. On a Saturday afternoon. And we had 32,000 yesterday too. For the same Orioles. And they cheered when the final score of the Red Sox loss was shown, too. The times, they are a-changin'. And like I said, Marlins fans have no business making fun of the Rays' attendance. :mischief
  9. Willow isn't that bad a name, actually. It's better than River, Leaf, Rain and Liberty. :mischief
  10. For a little levity... Hey Rab, where do you get those sweet fantasy uniforms? :mischief
  11. http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/8/3.../137/486/580223 DailyKOS is claiming that Trig Palin, the recently-born fifth child of Sarah Palin, is actually the child of her eldest daughter, 17-year-old Bristol Palin. The only hard "evidence" they have is a picture of Bristol that allegedly had a "baby bump". The picture was taken in early 2006. Trig was born on April 18, 2008, with a genetic disorder almost always found in births to women 40 or older. Oh, for those concerned she can't take care of Trig and be vice president, here's a snip of the Anchorage Daily News, April 22, 2008: But the family has worked through that. Palin said she and Todd feel blessed and chosen by God. With a big family including four older kids, grandparents, aunts and uncles, Palin said, they will have lots of support for what's ahead. In their eyes, she said, "he's absolutely perfect." Oh, KOS has a picture late-2007 and a picture from March 2008, which both show Bristol looking EXACTLY THE SAME, and claim she is pregnant in both. I know girls that look the same way Bristol does, and are not pregnant.
  12. Whoa, anybody see the change in Hanna's path? It suggests it's going to meander around for a few days, then make a bee-line for Savannah.
  13. Wrong thread, delete post please Donate some money, delete it yourself. You get that feature. :mischief
  14. Well, despite the attempts to plant misgivings, it's created a nice bounce so far. Latest Zogby poll: McCain/Palin 47%, Obama/Biden 45% Unfortunately, Zogby appears to be down at the moment, or I'd look to see what their numbers post-DNC have been. It wouldn't be fair comparing it to the Gallup numbers. :mischief I'm still not convinced that the VP makes that much of a difference. Obama has been dipping in the polls for a couple of weeks. You'd have to expect some sort of surge after his appearance in Denver. I have a feeling that a lot of people bought into the Clintons' game as well. I have edited my post, as Zogby returned. To repeat on any "bump", Obama led H2H 46-44 when Biden was announced. Zogby doesn't have any polling data during the DNC itself (at least that's freely available, and I'm not spending $100 to find out if they have any for sure).
  15. Well, despite the attempts to plant misgivings, it's created a nice bounce so far. Latest Zogby poll: McCain/Palin 47%, Obama/Biden 45% EDIT: Zogby back up, link to the above here. In the same article, Zogby shows that more people thought Palin helped McCain than thought Biden helped Obama, but more thought she'd hurt him too. 53% said she'd help, 29% said she'd hurt. 43% think Biden will help, 22% think Biden will hurt. Zogby didn't take polling during the DNC (at least, that is freely available). Obama led 46-44 head-to-head with McCain when Biden was announced.
  16. Guess what? Michael Moore isn't the only one that believes that Gustav is God's gift to the Democratic Party. Former DNC chair Don Fowler thinks it, too. Now we're going well beyond comparisons to Pat Robertson. This is a party crony praying for a destructive and deadly natural disaster to advance their political agenda.
  17. That six-game "streak" was all weekdays, and affected by school AND Tropical Storm Fay. And even then, we were still 50% higher than the same weekdays last year. During August and September in 2003, the Marlins only got over 13,000 against a non-division opponent on Saturday. Also, today vs. the Orioles: 34,805. The '03 Marlins exceeded that three times all season.
  18. It's only viewed as an issue in Moore's films because they are obviously being used to sway public opinion. This power was realized by the Soviets not too long after the birth of cinema. Triumph of the Will says "Hi". :mischief
  19. V-Tech got "upset" by East Carolina, 27-22. :mischief
  20. Contract the Rays? Marlins fans are the last people who should talk about a "lack of fan support" on part of the Rays. :mischief
  21. Last year, the Orioles september series in Tampa Bay averaged under 10,000 people per game. And a friday game in late August against the A's had less than 10k too. The attendance last night was 21,439. Against the Orioles. Rome was not built in a day. It will still take time to win fans totally over. But they will need to rip the tarps down come playoff time. You guys remember 2003, right? Your average regular season attendance was around 16,000. In the postseason, not one game was under 60,000.
  22. Wasn't it former Republican presidential hopeful Pat Robertson that said God sent Katrina because as a judgement of the sin in America? And he was actually serious. I thought he was wrong too. Would you have started a thread about it? I haven't seen a single thread of you're that wasn't made either anti-liberal or pro-GOP. (I lurk this forum a lot.) Someone else would have made that thread before I would, because there are far more anti-conservatives and pro-Democrats. (But you know that. You lurk this forum a lot. :mischief )
  23. By the way...MSNBC has given RACHEL MADDOW her OWN SHOW that will debut after Countdown next week. I'm so excited because she is fantastic. I think she will be the saving grace of the network. She's become wildly popular in a very short period of time. Keith Olbermann was supposed to be the saving grace of the network. He still fails to get numbers higher than O'Reilly's replays. If she's the "saving grace" of MSNBC, rest assured it will piss off Keith's ginormous ego.

  25. http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2...0830000004.aspx To liberal documentary filmmaker Michael Moore, the bounds are seemingly endless. Moore has made a recent career out of attacking President George W. Bush, bashing conservatives and criticizing business. His latest outrage occurred on MSNBC?s August 29 ?Countdown with Keith Olbermann? and when he commented about the coincidental timing of an unfortunate disaster ? the potential for Hurricane Gustav to make landfall at the beginning of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn. ?I was just thinking, this Gustav is proof that there is a God in heaven,? Moore said, laughing. ?To have it planned at the same time ? that it would actually be on its way to New Orleans for day one of the Republican Convention, up in the Twin Cities ? at the top of the Mississippi River.? After that comment, Moore backed off a bit and did say he hoped nobody got hurt and he hoped everybody is taking cover. However, he failed to make note of the $43.625 billion in damage the last hurricane to strike New Orleans caused ? Hurricane Katrina in 2005 ? and the billions of dollars the storm cost taxpayers.
