September 1, 200817 yr Bristol Palin pregnant -- right now Posted: Monday, September 01, 2008 11:58 AM by Mark Murray Filed Under: 2008, Palin From NBC's Mark Murray Reuters: "The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child. Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain. Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said. 'We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us,' the Palins' statement said. 'Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional Taken from MSNBC.com If this is true, I don't see how religious hardlines will vote for McCain. It also speaks volumes on the way McCain makes decisions.
September 1, 200817 yr I would be interested to know if the father's parents were willing to consent to marriage, otherwise it could explain why they are not yet married. If this is true, I don't see how religious hardlines will vote for McCain. It also speaks volumes on the way McCain makes decisions. This demonstrates a complete failure to understand evangelicals.

Not all, just the extreme ones who preach moral values to the world, and bash everybody until the shiite hits home. Then they ask for compassion and understanding. And this was the bunch that Palin was suppose to appeal to. Sorry that your Palin ship is sinking down. I'm glad it is. I don't want this person being a heartbeat away from the most powerful office in the world ,being in charge of facing Putin, Chavez, Bin Laden, Kim-Jung, etc. At least if Obama does something stupid, Biden is there to stop him. And I'm not so sure about McCain's mental stability either. It pains me to say these things because I'm a lifelong Republican. But right now the party is down the drain and needs a complete re-boot.

And this was the bunch that Palin was suppose to appeal to. You still demonstrate a complete failure to understand. The age of consent in AK is 16 She is keeping the baby She is getting married Not a single person on this board has any idea if the father's parents were willing to consent to a marriage, if not then they had to wait to marry until he was 18. Biblical law on premartial sex indicates that it needs to result in marriage anyhow and these two are not violating this in the least. I happen to be pretty impressed with Palin, but I think her presence on the national stage is 4-8 years too early, though I think Obama's is at least that too early as well. I am also not worried about her ability to "face" anyone, she is pretty tough.

I think a lot of moderate conservatives/Republicans have been concerned about this pick from the beginning. This sort of confirms a lot of their fears.

When you run on a values platform and openly try to court the values crowd you can't have these skeletons in your closet. It also hints that in order to further her political carreer, she ignored what her own children were doing. Another no-no to the family values platform that is supposed to put family above all. Also, can you tell me what impresses you about her? The fact that she can fish and hunt? That she was the mayor of a city with a population of 9,000? How is she tough? Do you actually think she can handle Vladimir Putin and the Mullahs in Iran? Because I hope you realize that with McCains age and bill of health, it is very likely that she will en up finishing his term.
September 1, 200817 yr OH NOES! SHE IS LIKE EVERY OTHER TEENAGE GIRL! Please, this doesnt hurt Palin in the least.
September 1, 200817 yr Look man, you can spin it all you want. I'm not spinning anything, I am telling you the common religious dogma as regards premarital sex as drawn from Leviticus. The only way her relations can be a sin of significance is if she and the father do not marry. You can consider it a big deal, or an expression of hypocrisy (considering that Sarah Palin is not the one that had the sex that would be an odd claim) but it is not going to dent religious conservative support. Because I hope you realize that with McCains age and bill of health, it is very likely that she will en up finishing his term. She, in defiance of her state's political machine, ran down and chased out the corrupt good old boy network. She is a major pain in the ass of big oil in a state that relies heavily on the oil companies. I've also seen her speak and be interviewed going back nearly a year now. At the time I though "here's a woman that will be great on the national stage in a few years." I would prefer if McCain chose a more experienced governor, but she is more qualified than Obama to hold executive office.
September 1, 200817 yr I think a good place to end this is a clip from a Time.com article: It was, more or less, an open secret [in Wasilla, their home]. And everyone was saying the same thing: the governor's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, the father is her boyfriend, and it's really nobody's business beyond that. I happen to agree.

Obama has less executive and no foreign experience either. And its McCain. Any president can die at any time....
September 1, 200817 yr CNN Obama says Palin family off limits.. I really commend him for this and him sticking to his guns and his convictions on this. Kudos to Obama! I know I said Kudos to Obama

I know I said Kudos to Obama I wait to see if his surrogates behave in the manner that he just directed, because he did that kind of stuff to Hillary the whole primary.
September 1, 200817 yr I agree that this is an interesting twist. First it did look like the 17 yo daughter was the mother of that newborn, but then someone finally found a photo where Sarah Palin looked at least somewhat pregnant.

And everyone up there knew, and nobody cares... because it is Alaska.
September 1, 200817 yr Palin can't even control her own daughter, how is she going to control our country if McCain dies?
September 1, 200817 yr Imagine if Biden had a daughter who was 17 and pregnant.... oh the things we would hear from the right.
September 1, 200817 yr Pretty much the only ones that seem to care are left wing nutjobs who already hated her and weren't going to vote for her.

(assuming pending nuptuals, no abortion)

September 1, 200817 yr Both sides play the same partisan games. It is ignorant to think otherwise. Well, certainly. In this instance, I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of the Republican side.
September 2, 200817 yr I've been watching the news on this for the past couple of hours. I am not an Obama supporter or a McCain supporter. I'm registered Independent and have liked John McCain for years. So I guess I'm one of those all important independent voters. My feeling on this is that there is no way McCain knew about this before he made his VP pick. They are spinning it that way now, but if this was known, would it not have been brought up right away? I mean, if she's keeping the baby, the whole world would have known in a month or two. There was also no big groundswell of people wanting her as his VP pick and why in the world would he pick someone who has this kind of baggage? I know everyone on both sides says it is a private issue, but who are they kidding? Maybe 30 or 40 years ago this could have been covered up, but now??
September 2, 200817 yr I think the word on the street is that he knew, but given that the daugher is marrying the baby daddy and they will have the child, he was ok with it. Still, it makes me think that he really wanted her on the ticket, assuming he knew about this.
