MSNBC reporting Palin's daughter is 5 months pregnant

Palin can't even control her own daughter, how is she going to control our country if McCain dies?

Really?? I guess you must have been the only teenager on this board to not have had sex in high school. I hope you were being sarcastic.

I've been watching the news on this for the past couple of hours. I am not an Obama supporter or a McCain supporter. I'm registered Independent and have liked John McCain for years. So I guess I'm one of those all important independent voters. My feeling on this is that there is no way McCain knew about this before he made his VP pick. They are spinning it that way now, but if this was known, would it not have been brought up right away? I mean, if she's keeping the baby, the whole world would have known in a month or two. There was also no big groundswell of people wanting her as his VP pick and why in the world would he pick someone who has this kind of baggage? I know everyone on both sides says it is a private issue, but who are they kidding? Maybe 30 or 40 years ago this could have been covered up, but now??

30 or 40 years ago it would have been a big issue, but today it isn't. That's why McCain picked her anyway.

he is just a liberal wacko :D

Rumors are beginning to form that Palin isn't going to actually be on the ticket. A GOP conference call this morning with reporters, where the speaking schedule was laid out, had no mention of her speaking as well.

Good insight, dude. Did you read this gem in the same site that released her SS# and home phone #?

That claim may or may not be true. Why is she in seclusion? Perhaps McCain is reconsidering right now. If he picks someone else, he's going to come across as extremely incompetent. What a fool.

He'd lose just like McGovern did. I highly doubt these rumors are true.

Have you heard of some of the stuff that's coming out now and that has yet to be talked about by the major networks? Supposedly, she was a member of a political party in Alaska (either her or her husband or both of them) that advocates secession from the United States. Apparently, there is some video of her on the internet somewhere saying something crazy at a church. AND, her preacher is apparently nuts (I'm talking Reverend Wright nuts). True, Obama has his own preacher problem, but the difference between Obama and Palin is that he worked his way out of that problem through the course of several primaries. She can't do that.

There are just so many things all coming out at once that makes me wonder whether McCain is better off taking a risk and dumping her than keeping her. The thing is, it's becoming apparent that they really didn't vet her very well. So what else is likely to come out? At the very least, I think she is a huge distraction for the McCain campaign. If this continues over the course of the next few weeks, McCain's campaign will be sunk.

Of course, I agree with you, if he dumps her he probably loses just like McGovern did. But maybe keeping her means he DEFINITELY loses. I think her selection could be that bad (if any of the stuff i mentioned above actually materializes or if more things come out).

Going back to a point you've made several times: Obama has been blessed with bad or no-name opponents (Hillary being the exception, of course) his entire political career. This kind of fits his MO. (Not that he controls that... but he seems like one lucky SOB).

The question is, who would replace her? I don't think Romney would take the job now after being rejected. Same goes for Pawlenty.

Who does that leave? I doubt that Giuliani, Ridge, or Lieberman are realistic options for him.

Both sides play the same partisan games. It is ignorant to think otherwise.

Well, certainly. In this instance, I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of the Republican side.

I don't see the hypocrisy of the Republican side that you're talking about.

If Sarah was pregnant and was having the baby aborted then I would agree but Bristol is the pregnant one and she's not running for office and she's not having the baby aborted so I don't see your point.

Agreed.

I fail to see the aforementioned hypocrisy.

The bull pen certainly has been a zoo of partisan nonsense over the last couple of days. :lol

I'm saying to put the shoe on Biden's foot. If you don't see that, then ok.

I am sure there are a handful of potential candidates that would accept the role if offered. The ones you mentioned are probably off the table. Pawlenty and Romney will not want to be part of a losing team.

I'd like to know more about McCain's decision making process here in selecting Palin to begin with. A colleague of mine today was telling me that supposedly Lieberman was allegedly a done deal but some high ranking Republicans/delegates approached McCain's advisors at the last minute and said they'd refuse to support him if he chose a pro-choice running mate.

Wow.

and yeah, FutureGM posted a thread on that not long ago too, about Karl Rove calling him up & urging him not to pick Lieberman,

If it turned out Palin backs out to save her family the stress & hounding from the press, I could hardly blame her. When the national press get a new shiny toy to play with they're pretty relentless...

I find it amusing the two most liberal members of this forum seem to have the inside dirt as to the inner workings of the Republican party . If you guys are right I'll tip my hat to you but I would be shocked if any of the rumors about Palin backing out are true although I would not blame her because the coverage she has received as not been fair in any form or fashion. If by chance Palin is removed from the ticket McCain is toast he already has a slim chance at best to win because this election isnt about McCain or Obama it is about Bush in most voters minds

It had nothing to do with Rove.

Supposedly it was some anonymous but influential Republicans integral with the Christian right.

Allegedly it was entirely on the issue of abortion. This was why Ridge was ruled out. They seem to think that the religious fanatics are entirely one-issue voters.

Didn't mean Rove was the same instance you were referring to, just all seemed to tie in with Lieberman not being selected.

By the way I'd say that the religious fanatics are by & large one-issue voters, or at least if there's one issue at the top of the heap that will get them moving, that's the one. I would love to be wrong though.

If McCain is trying to go after independents like you are saying, it makes zero sense for him to select Palin. She is clearly a right-winger.

Someone like Lieberman, Ridge, Giuliani, or Colin Powell (I wonder if they asked him, even though reports have said that he is planning to endorse Obama).

I don't see what Palin offers to independents except that she's a woman (if that even matters to voters, which I don't think it does all that much).

The average person in this country disagrees with her views on the Iraq War, sexual education, abortion, gay rights, and pretty much everything else.

I don't think it will do anything to bring in women, but I'm not sure they are actually worried about that. I think that was a kneejerk reaction by the left to assume it was a pander.

I think it's been pretty well decided that this was an attempt to lure Hillary supporters over to McCain. It was also throwing something to the religious right, with her strong stances against reproductive rights.

Kerry made reference to Cheney's lesbian daughter in his response to a gay marriage question in a 2004 debate. I don't think Obama will make the same mistake with a "abstinence-only-policy" question in this case based on Obama's "family off limits" policy.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Obama's mother 17 when she conceived him and 18 at his birth ?

For the most part, it appears that the media is now focused on Palin's politics more than her family, now that these revelations have come to light.

What disturbs me is a quote from an anonymous Republican campaign official saying that Palin was only very recently considered for the job.

I think it's clear McCain didn't do his due diligence with this pick, probably because he wanted Lieberman all along and then had to make a last minute decision to appease the religious right. I actually feel bad for McCain - he's not the same McCain of 2000. I would have respected his decision to go with a Joe Lieberman, mostly because it would have shown he's got a spine and some sense of principle. The McCain of 2000 would not have picked Palin.
