MSNBC reporting Palin's daughter is 5 months pregnant

I've been watching the news on this for the past couple of hours. I am not an Obama supporter or a McCain supporter. I'm registered Independent and have liked John McCain for years. So I guess I'm one of those all important independent voters. My feeling on this is that there is no way McCain knew about this before he made his VP pick. They are spinning it that way now, but if this was known, would it not have been brought up right away? I mean, if she's keeping the baby, the whole world would have known in a month or two. There was also no big groundswell of people wanting her as his VP pick and why in the world would he pick someone who has this kind of baggage? I know everyone on both sides says it is a private issue, but who are they kidding? Maybe 30 or 40 years ago this could have been covered up, but now??

I myself think it is a desire of the extremists at DailyKOS to make the right look as out-of-touch and backward as possible, no matter the cost.

Both sides play the same partisan games. It is ignorant to think otherwise.

Well, certainly. In this instance, I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of the Republican side.

I don't see the hypocrisy of the Republican side that you're talking about.

If Sarah was pregnant and was having the baby aborted then I would agree but Bristol is the pregnant one and she's not running for office and she's not having the baby aborted so I don't see your point.

I think the word on the street is that he knew, but given that the daugher is marrying the baby daddy and they will have the child, he was ok with it.

Still, it makes me think that he really wanted her on the ticket, assuming he knew about this.

But if he knew, why have it come out this way? If you don't think this is a big deal, why not just say something about it when you announce her as the choice? Instead you wait for an announcement to be made on the heels of rumors about the other baby at a time that you know the news channels are all covering a hurricane? You cannot tell me that this timing was a conincidence.

If he knew, I just can't see why he would have wanted this relatively unknown woman on his ticket so badly that he wouldn't care about having this type of story on his hands 60 days away from the election.

McCain had only met Palin once before he selected her. Even conservative insiders are still confused about this pick.

I personally like the pick, its more outside the box than the republicans are usually willing to go.

OH NOES! SHE IS LIKE EVERY OTHER TEENAGE GIRL! Please, this doesnt hurt Palin in the least.

Every other teenage girl is 5 months pregnant?

I think he's sayin them having sex, she just was dumb and didn't tell the dude to wear a condom

Yep. I doubt you can spit without hitting a 17 year old girl that hasnt had sex. Just the age we live in.

This was the perfect time to announce this. The morning of a hurricane hitting New Orleans + Labor Day= this gets nowhere near the play it would get had it occurred on a normal day. That along with the convention stating tomorrow gives this less press then it would have received.

I don't think most American's really care if her daughter was pregnant. It would only be an issue if she had an abortion.

Palin can't even control her own daughter, how is she going to control our country if McCain dies?

how is she not controlling her daughter?

The common thought in this country is that having a pregnant high schooler is not "controlling your daughter".

That's exactly how Dems are going to play this one.

If this really doesn't affect anything, why not just come out and say something the day she accepted the nomination? They had to know people were going to notice eventually and it really would have been a non-issue then. The way this is being handled is completely unfair to the pregnant daughter. Now she's a world-wide news story. The fact that Palin's daughter is 17 and pregnant doesn't make me question her ability as a politician, it's the way she handled the situation that makes me question her ability as a politician.

And at the same time, they have full control over the DailyKOS bullsh*t. They can take that site to school and back. 15 miles through the snow, uphill both ways. :mischief

Even moreso with Obama's rebuke :mischief :mischief :mischief

The Obama campaign is not going to make an issue of this. I don't think he can ever come out looking good making an issue of this. The only problem for the Republican ticket is that they're talking about this nonstop on television rather than focusing on the convention. In other words, it's a distraction.

The Obama campaign is not going to make an issue of this.

Of course not. He said himself he does not want the bloggers going after Palin's children. That will be a huge weapon for the GOP to take on DailyKOS as a crazy, careless fabricator of lies. Nobody will ever be able to trust DailyKOS as a credible source of information ever again.

Dailey Kos was never a trusted source of information . Someone can correct me if I am wrong but I dont think the Dailey Kos claims to objective or claims to present anything other than a liberal viewpoint.

Her approval ratings are in the 80s which is a rarity for someone two years into her term so I would say her skills as a politician are just fine. You may disagree with her views but that's a diffrent issue.

I'm sure there are posters on here that view Kos as a credible source. It's idiotic but that's the way it is. The Drudge Report for the most part only links various stories both from left and right leaning web sites. When he "breaks" a story (which is rare) he's usually correct.

Cant say I agree with that statement , Drudge is 50/50 at best. Seems all mediums of news reporting are biased in some way or form it makes it very hard to trust any internet site , newspaper , tv station , or radio station .

It was in the 90s her first year. The only reason it's in the 80s now is because of the trooper scandal, which she is fully cooperating with.

Still a positive. Also, she may be in a state without a lot of people, but she has a lot of responsibility and a lot of executive experience because of ANWAR, the land, and many other things. She may be under experienced, but I still do not see her being the reason he loses. There are other reasons McCain could blame for losing.

You're talking like Obama's already won.

Thomas Dewey says "Hi." :mischief

I would be interested to know if the father's parents were willing to consent to marriage, otherwise it could explain why they are not yet married.

If this is true, I don't see how religious hardlines will vote for McCain. It also speaks volumes on the way McCain makes decisions.

This demonstrates a complete failure to understand evangelicals.

Not all, just the extreme ones who preach moral values to the world, and bash everybody until the shiite hits home. Then they ask for compassion and understanding. And this was the bunch that Palin was suppose to appeal to.

Sorry that your Palin ship is sinking down. I'm glad it is. I don't want this person being a heartbeat away from the most powerful office in the world ,being in charge of facing Putin, Chavez, Bin Laden, Kim-Jung, etc. At least if Obama does something stupid, Biden is there to stop him. And I'm not so sure about McCain's mental stability either.

It pains me to say these things because I'm a lifelong Republican. But right now the party is down the drain and needs a complete re-boot.

There is no way that you have ever been a republican if you are willing to vote for the liberal and socialist agenda of Obama. At leat be honest about who you are and where you stand.
