9/19 post game
I think the Fish of the Game is Fredi Gonzalez, tonight. I actually agreed with pretty much every move tonight, which is rare. Just because you agreed with the move doesn't mean it was the right move. ???? I never claimed to be the king of managing. All I said was that I agreed with pretty much every single one of his moves tonight (which is rare), thus I voted for him. No, but you have told all of us that you could do a better job than Fredi at one time or another.

Uggla sad that he might get traded
Uggla becomes too expensive to carry next season, and we find out his substitute, Chris Coghlan. He is unusual 2nd baseman with "30 homer & 90 rbi". also, he has 120+ strikeouts and inconsistant average in a season. I think he looks like "mini-Adam Dunn" as poor average and huge power(OPS). His high OPS was suppose to make up for his poor defense. First off, he's not "poor," defensively. Second, Dan Uggla's offense at the position outweighs the occasional blunders he might have, defensively. I don't know what you have against the guy. For some reason, you seem to think he has something against Lindstrom or something b/c unlike Cody Ross he didn't say sorry after a defensive miscue when Lindstrom was on the mound. It's rather pathetic how you're blaming Uggla for being terrible defensively, when he's actually...not. He's actually exceeded expectations, defensively, from all the sh*t that was said about him, before he got to the big leagues. That statement still didn't change my opinion....nice try though.

9/18 Post Game
Did anyone see him celebrating after he got the last out? He always does that. Always? Even when the game gets close? That's awesome. Nunez shrugs off Cardinals comments: Right-hander Leo Nunez said he doesn't plan to change his post-game mound celebrations after a save, even though Cardinals fans and players found it excessive after Wednesday's game. "Those are things I do during the game,'' Nunez said through a translator. "They don't mean anything bad. I don't care that they're talking. That's part of my game. I always do my thing when I close. I don't care what they're talking about. If they didn't like it, to hell with them.'' I don't like it, either. But if other teams seriously have a problem with it, they can simply beat him...he won't do it, if that happens. Same with K-Rod, Valverde, and all the other showoff relievers. They show a lot of emotion after getting saves. I'm not a big fan of the constant craziness, but that's the way they are. Have a lot of career saves. Nunez 23 and the celebrating started at like 10.

Nunez for giving up that bomb. He now leads the NL in homeruns given up by a reliever. In second place yep, Kevin Gregg. Did anyone see him celebrating after he got the last out? Funny. When Lindstrom was allowing runs and getting saves, your comment always was..."but he's 14/16." "But he's only costs the team 1 game with his 2 blown saves." Why can't you say the same for Nunez? Why don't you now say "he leads all relievers in HR's allowed, but ever since he took over the closer's role, he's 23/26." Why is it different now? Just wondering... Yeah he got the job but it was ugly-you know why as well we've discussed that already. 14/16 and cost them one game is the truth isn't it? I don't like Leo Nunez. IMO he doesn't respect the game of baseball. I'm old fashion and if someone shows up my team or players I don't take it lightly. He's just lucky no one can throw at him. Even Ryan Franklin (who can talk sh*t this year because he's been dominant)thought his end of the game celebration was excessive. It's one thing to get a save, it's another when you show somebody up on their own field. Nunez gets out of a bases loaded jam because everything is going right for him this year (except the homeruns). Like I said I hope he does well. He can stay in Florida and be the closer or if he keeps getting saves they can trade for him and get a #4 hitter. Whatever. Besides he is Fredi's little buddy and Fredi has a ton of confidence in him. Fredi doesn't care about the homerun-he cares about the final score. Lindstrom made Fredi's heart beat too fast.

Mark Wiley
I really fail to see what Wiley is doing wrong. For every Ricky Nolasco/Matt Lindstrom regression, there has been Dan Meyer/Brian Sanches progression/career year. Volstad was successful last year, under Wiley. Could it be that he just hit a sophmore slump, and he has to adjust to the hitters, again? That has happened plenty of times before with other pitchers. Who else? Andrew Miller? The guy was all out of whack in the minor leagues, as well. Anibal? Kind of hard to pitch, when you keep constantly wanting to pitch through injuries. Sean West has actually exceeded my expectations. His #'s at AA aren't too hot. He's come up here and had a couple good starts in his first stint, and his second stint back up with the big club has been way better than his first. Does Wiley get any credit for that? A pitching coach can only do so much. Fact is, once you get to professional ball, it's a lot of independent learning. My brother was drafted as a pitcher, (despite never being a pitcher before in his life), and what he learned in pro ball, he learned it from other teammates. And that's the minor leagues. In the major leagues...how much teaching really goes on? I don't think it's as much as some of you might think, regardless of the coach. This is true. However, I remember (I don't know when it was, earlier this year I think) hearing the analysts talk about how great Duncan (pitching coach for the Cardinals) is. They said if anyone could resurrect a pitcher it was him. Look at Ryan Franklin this year-average for most of his career-simply awesome this year. Just from what I hear Wiley doesn't do that much. Dave Duncan seems to be the exception. Leo Mazzone, perhaps, as well. And then there's Rudy Jaramillo, (hitting coach in Texas). Those are about the only consistent trends I see. Not many. No not many at all.

9/15 Post Game
I hate to sound like a douche after a nice win, but what's Dan Meyer's role on this team, right now? Why is Meyer only coming in in irrelevant situations, mostly, all of the sudden? Tonight, once again, the lefty warming up was Pinto. Last night, with the game still tight at 8-6, I saw Meyer warming up in the pen, yet Fredi let Lindstrom pitch to Colby Rasmus, despite it being clear that Lindstrom was struggling. Why is it that the manager seems to have very little confidence in one of our best relievers/our best left-handed reliever? I mean, look at how often he's been used lately, and the meaningless situations he's being put in... http://sports.espn.g...g?playerId=6106 What did the guy with a 3.10 ERA/1.17 WHIP/1 K per inning do to get into Fredi's doghouse? Erik we have had this conversation before, let me refresh your memory. If a pitcher (mainly a bullpen guy) has a few bad outings in a row, they instantly lose the confidence of their wonderful skipper

What needs to change for next year?
1.6 Lindstrom + 1.6 Nunez = 3.2 million for 2 relievers. The more and more I see that possibility, the less I like it. Nunez' stats are the better looking of the two, and a lot of that has to do with good fortune for him, this year. I'm leaning to only signing 1 of those 2 guys...not both. Sign Nunez and let Lindstrom go....Nunez is better. He's got swag....he's got the arm pump at the end of a save....he's got the confidence of Fredi Gonzalez (which is the most important thing you could ever establish)....and now he isn't throwing 1st pitch fastballs belt high right over the middle of the plate. This is an easy choice.

Donnelly thinks the team has a better chance at the WildCard
I'm not doubting he got injured. I'm just saying I doubt he went out there the whole entire first half...injured. Why can't you just admit he struggled? Also, I'm pretty sure there's no convincing needed. The Marlins would easily trade Lindstrom OR Nunez, for that matter, for a cleanup hitter...if any opposing team was drunk enough to offer that. As for the rest of the paragraph...you just sound a little angry now. But if you want to setup that meeting...cool. It'd be a privilege to meet a big league reliever for free, and spend the day talking baseball with him. Also...whatever injury he had, it sure as hell wasn't as serious as mine, anyways, considering you can't even try to pitch with my injury. Just tell him to ask Nick Johnson, if you don't believe me. PS - You can tell him for me, if you want. I don't mind. Matt Lindstrom is not one of the best pitchers in the United States. I've already told you...that's not even a knock on him. It's just fact. If you truly believe he's better than the likes of Nathan, Papelbon, etc., you are quite the delusional one. I admit that he struggled, but some of it was due to him not being ready/healthy whatever you want to assume. You have to understand that I am never angry when I post. I've learned that you have to have thick skin on forums or you can take things personal and that is never good. No, he wants to be like those guys. He isn't there yet but I believe that he learned what he needed to this year to help him become like those guys. Delusional? I don't eat mushrooms. You can bet Fredi does though some of his decisions are horrific-like tonight (9/11/09). And those guys weren't on the team. Get my point about that now? Yeah I get your point. You think I am stupid not to realize this. This was a great honor for an Idaho kid. He got asked and he accepted. Someone was impressed with the way he pitched to chose him to play so try and get my point-it's really not that hard to understand.

Fredi Gonzalez is a good manager.
By the way Tommy, you can cut the crap. The only reason Josh Johnson didn't go six innings tonight is b/c Fredi/the organization is being cautious with him. Don't blame the starter tonight for not going 6 innings b/c he easily could have. This is the truth (you know how I know).

Donnelly thinks the team has a better chance at the WildCard
1. Lindstrom was hurt ALL of the first half, or is this just an excuse? Admit it, he struggled. Any pitcher with a 1.9 WHIP is not doing well. And that's what Lindstrom had, at one point, this year. He's been a much different pitcher the last month and a half, I'll give you that. 2. If you're going to eliminate 2 games from Lindstrom's first half b/c it's convenient for you, then I'm taking the 3 save chances Nunez blew, while not being in the closer's role. Or, better yet, I'm taking Nunez worst 2 games off his gamelogs b/c well...you did it for Lindstrom! When Lindstrom ended the year last year, people weren't looking at his middle relief blown saves...they were saying he went perfect as the closer (in a short sample, but whatever). Blowing saves as a closer and as a middle reliever are two totally different things. A middle reliever comes in with inherited runners much more often than a closer does, so it's easier for middle relievers to "blow saves." If we're counting middle relief blown saves, why not count holds, as well? Going back to #2 though...I just hope you know that the 7 run outing and 4 run outing won't be disappearing from Lindstrom's career stats anytime soon...so the S/BS comment was a bit hypocritical, considering what you had said, earlier. 3. I agree with you on the last paragraph. It's well known I'm not a Fredi Gonzalez fan. It's well known that I think I can manage this team better than him. You can ask anyone here...most would tell you how stupid I am for saying it, but all will tell you I have said it. How about I set up a meeting between you and Lindstrom and you can ask him face to face? Since you find it hard to believe that he didn't have an injury you can ask him yourself. Then you can show him your broken femur because I don't think you ever had one. As far as taking the worse 2 games away from Lindstrom, I understand that can't happen I was just saying. Lindstrom has been the best reliever on the team in the second half. He doesn't allow inherited runs to score and the 3 or 4 runs he's given up 2 were because of Leo Nunez. Nunez>Lindstrom in the first half Lindstrom>Nunez in the second half. If you do end up managing the team convince the owners that Nunez can close and trade Lindstrom and some other players for a #4 hitter. Thanks. Oh....by the way, that meeting will probably never happen because if I told him what it was about he would laugh in my face. I'll tell you what, if the Marlins go to the playoffs I will come out to Florida and I will arrange a meeting for you to meet and then you can ask him if he was really injured during the first half. Then I could see your broken femur and all will be well. Perhaps if it came from the horses mouth you would believe. He might even buy you dinner if your lucky. Just don't bring up you not thinking he should of played for team USA. He might punch you in your mouth....just saying.

Donnelly thinks the team has a better chance at the WildCard
Hopefully the phillies keep getting in close games and keep using Lidge. Uberschnell you seem to be in an unusual pissed off mood today or the last couple of posts. I'm usually pretty good I apologize. I follow Matt Lindstrom on the Marlins team, no one else. I think Fredi Gonzalez is doing him way wrong right now just like he did Kevin Gregg wrong last year. It goes way deeper than this but I won't bore you my ranting. Marlins are winning and that's good. I hope Lindstrom can contribute, bring his era down, and then get shipped out. He needs a real manager and a pitching coach that actually cares. Besides it's all about a players career and what's best for it right? I'm confused. You've been saying the whole time how you're a Marlins fan, but the first bolded sentence, basically, just shows that you're a Lindstrom fan. Second, not really. If the Marlins feel that Matt Lindstrom fits into their bullpen needs, he's coming back next year, closer or not. And they haven't really been unfair to Lindstrom. (not sure about Wiley b/c I'm not with the team on off-days, etc., but in terms of his role, I don't know how you could even think that) Matt Lindstrom is a Marlin and plays for Florida, therefore I follow Matt Lindstrom mostly and hope the Marlins win-really is it that hard to understand? Just like I like Chipper Jones on the Braves and hope they win when they play other teams. Second (bolded sentence) you are wrong. Look at what Lindstrom has done in the second half compared to "I celebrate like K-Rod and I only have 20 career saves" Nunez. The closer's role was Lindstrom's and he lost it because of an injury. Fredi tells the media bullsh*t story after bullsh*t story about how he will get more chances. He hasn't gotten one yet even after Mr. Nunez gave up 3 runs in 5 pitches. Nunez has more blown saves and has given up tons of homeruns-really you aresmarter than this, aren't you? Lindstrom has pitched way better than Nunez in the second half. Where are the chances Erik? That's how I can think that, how can you not? Don't try and tell me that Fredi aint doin Lindstrom dirty. To your second paragraph: Lindstrom lost his closer's role b/c he got injured AND because he was pitching like sh*t. Leo Nunez second half has been better than Matt Lindstrom's first half...so I guess you think he was being unfair to every other reliever on the team in the first half? Works both ways, no? Nunez has ONE more blown save, despite having 7 more chances. Please tell me you're not counting his "blown saves" before taking over the closer's role. If you are, that's a) unfair, considering all the great stuff that has been said about the closer's role on here , and b) it has nothing to do with the closer's role. Lindstrom is 14/16, Nunez is 20/23. If Fredi's doing Lindstrom dirty, what's he doing to Kiko Calero and Dan Meyer? Spitting in their faces? Btw, if the Marlins are in the lead tonight...I'm guessing Fredi goes to Lindstrom, if there's a save situation. Unless if he opts to go with Nunez a 4th time in 5 days/3 days in a row, but I kinda doubt it. You are right about him pitching like crap....however he was injured-that plays a big role. For your records Lindstrom was lifting heavy heavy weights before and after games-even on nights he was supposed to pitch-not smart. He finally realized that this was hurting him and now he strictly just uses the bands. Now his elbow doesn't hurt and is shoulder is where it needs to be. It was Lindstrom's fault that he lost the role and it was for being stupid! Oh, you mean Nunez's second half has been better than 2 of Lindstrom's 1st half games (a 7 run and a 4 run game). Yes Nunez is 20-26 and that is fair because it goes on their career stats. Lindstrom was charged with some blown saves last year and he wasn't the closer but they are on his record. He is doing Kiko and Dan even dirtier than Linstrom. Fredi kills me when he brings those 2 in meaningless games. You have seen the pattern with Fredi. Once a reliever on the team sucks it 2 or 3 times then Fredi loses all confidence and they don't pitch again (I'm referring to Dan Meyer more than Kiko here).

Why do you keep saying Dan Uggla sucks? Because in my opinion he does. Lots of power, all or nothing, terrible defensively, low BA.....what's to like about him? There is alot to like with an .800+ OPS second baseman with solid defense. One stat that is decent, congratulations. :whistle Do you actually watch the games or follow them on gameday? Just asking, not trying to be rude.

Nunez made me forget all about Fredi's idiotic moves in the 8th. BTW, it's really ironic how everyone wants Lindstrom to close, all of the sudden. Pretty funny. Knee-jerk reactions, FTW. You know what else is funny? Leo Nunez can't even own up to a butt kicking. All the time Lindstrom was sucking it up he stayed after for the reporters and owned up to it. Nunez, after blowing a save in just 5 pitches, didn't talk to the media. Part of being the goat is owning up to what went wrong. Here is something that you might like that makes Cody Ross one of my favorite players on the Marlins team. In Washington, when Lindstrom pitched the 7th inning, Cody Ross misread a fly ball into right field. After Matt got Ryan Zimmerman out Cody apologized for not catching that ball that dropped in front of him (the sun was in his face). Dan Uggla hasn't aplogized once for sucking while Matt has pitched (and he has done it plenty!). There is some inside stuff for you bro. Leo Nunez is also not fluent in English. Is that an excuse to be a coward though? You, like me think that players get good money to act like major leaguers. Just saying. Actually, yes. I don't even think Nunez knows English, at all. I believe he has a translator. Anyways, he talked (through his translator) today (or yesterday, not sure) saying he felt terrible b/c he wanted to help the team get to the playoffs, and possibly the World Series. And even if he did speak good English, I wouldn't want to talk to a reporter either right after I just had 3 runs scored on me in the span of 5 pitches, to lose the game for my team. I'd be feeling like sh*t, and at a loss for words. That's the last thing he should be worried about. As for "acting like a major leaguer," I've already stated several times that I hate Nunez constant fist pumps, for what it's worth. I dislike it too because he has 18 now 19 career saves and he fist pumps like he's K-Rod-yeah he's far from K-Rod.

Who does he think should pitch in the 9th? A guy that gives up taters or a guy who is having a pretty solid second half? What do you think? Oh, I too think the way is the wild card, however, I think there is a chance with the division with the games that are left.
