9/6 Post Game
Nunez made me forget all about Fredi's idiotic moves in the 8th. BTW, it's really ironic how everyone wants Lindstrom to close, all of the sudden. Pretty funny. Knee-jerk reactions, FTW. You know what else is funny? Leo Nunez can't even own up to a butt kicking. All the time Lindstrom was sucking it up he stayed after for the reporters and owned up to it. Nunez, after blowing a save in just 5 pitches, didn't talk to the media. Part of being the goat is owning up to what went wrong. Here is something that you might like that makes Cody Ross one of my favorite players on the Marlins team. In Washington, when Lindstrom pitched the 7th inning, Cody Ross misread a fly ball into right field. After Matt got Ryan Zimmerman out Cody apologized for not catching that ball that dropped in front of him (the sun was in his face). Dan Uggla hasn't aplogized once for sucking while Matt has pitched (and he has done it plenty!). There is some inside stuff for you bro.

9/4 Postgame
Voted Bake. I believe we have the best hitting catcher combo in the MLB. Maybe only NL because I would take Mauer and whoever the hell his backup is over anybody. Baker had a great game offensively but I think he is horrible behind the plate-he calls a horrible game imo. For example, and this was just during Lindstrom's outing, how can you get 2 guys 0 and 2 and give up one legit single and then give up a hit over the middle to "I'm a horrible second baseman" Uggla that never makes a play whenever Lindstrom pitches. When he had Zimmerman 0-2 Baker paid a visit to the mound. Matt told him that he wanted to bury a slider and finish Zimmerman. John Baker says no, one more fastball on the outer half of the plate. The next pitch was on the outer half of the plate and it got hit to a horrible horrible second baseman that can't make a play to save his life Uggla that cost him a run. The starters are good for 3-5 innings because they are either getting killed or the pitch count is way too high. Baker needed to go 3-5 with 4 rbi's to make up for his sh*tty pitch calling. Paulino calls a way better game than Baker and he even throws people out once in awhile. Matt Treanor would ask the pitchers what they wanted to throw and then he would tell them to throw the hell out of it.

Matt Lindstrom
You gotta look for the positives otherwise sports will just make you bitter. No use getting worked up over something you have no control over. I used to get so pissed off at my teams when they lost but now just enjoy the ride. there will always be guys that suck. Fans, critics, and players!

9/03 Post Game
I wonder Erick, have you ever played baseball? Little League? High School? Just a legitimate question. eh, I guess by your standards a chimp with a uniform could manage. No, but my brother played at a higher level than most here, and he'll also tell you that "momentum" doesn't exist in baseball. Your examples of the 10+ hits are just players getting hot, at the same time. That happens. Over the course of a 162 game season, players get hot and players go through slumps. If "momentum" was so real, Cody Ross doesn't hit a GW double today after a horrible 3 games and getting benched. sh*t happens. It's a season of 162 games. EDIT: I'd love to hear what other players have to say about this. Perhaps uberschnell can ask Matt Lindstrom about "momentum"...or maybe trahernsfriend can ask Trahern. I'm sure most have the same approach Dan Uggla had the other day when a reporter asked him about "having a sense of urgency." Asked him and he also believes in momentum, however, it varies from game to game. He said that you have to create momentum in every single game: getting the big hit, capitalizing on errors, ect.... Once the game is over, the momentum is done. Consistency is a better word for momentum imo.

Matt Lindstrom
After falling 5 games back in the wildcard, it's difficult to think of something positive, but whatever. Just wanted to create a thread dedicated to uberschnell who told me that when Lindstrom came back, he "wouldn't walk anyone." I've been a critic of the guys' inconsistency and stuff, so I just thought I'd point out that apparently he was telling the truth, lol. After the inning tonight, Lindstrom has now gone 12 innings without allowing a walk, since coming back. Hopefully he can keep that up. One thing Lindstrom has been good at it in his career is limiting HR's/extra base hits, so if he can limit the free bases, it will certainly be good for him and the future of the Florida Marlins pen. So despite the sh*tty losses, I'd just like to say that I hope Lindstrom continues his unshitty ways that he has going for him, lately. He'll continue them and I'm positive he won't give up many more runs; at least homeruns.

Matt Lindstrom
But......... He wasn't getting it done back when they still had a chance. That all depends on your definition of "getting it done" and "chance." I don't think he was "getting it done" either, but really he blew like...a game. As far as chances go...last I checked, the math still says the team is in it. So realistically, you're wrong, there. By "chance" I meant when the team still had a chance to make the playoffs. The guy was basically doing a Kevin Gregg impression on the mound every night. The math says we still have a chance, so I am wrong statistically, but I'm very right REAListically. Realistically Lindstrom has only cost the Marlins 1 game. The Philliesgame back in April when he allow 7 earned runs in less than an inning(which translates to an inflated era-Fredi is at fault for that thatD-bag). The team has always had a chance to make the playoffs, especiallyduring the times when Lindstrom was doing a "Kevin Gregg" impression. If you watch the games you will realize that the starting pitching hasbeen the achilles hill of the team (except for Josh Johnson) not thebullpen and not Matt Lindstrom. It shocks me that you (you are a Marlins fan aren't you?) wouldn't havesomething positive to say about a guy who has struggled for the firsthalf of the year, who is now pitching well, and all you can do is throwsh*t on him. You are classy! :thumbup

Uberschnell: 1. It's an opinion, but really...what's the difference between sucking in Game 1 and sucking in Game 162? You don't get an extra loss for sucking more in game 162. Mathematically, it counts the same in the standings. 2. Why do you want Lindstrom DFA'd? Do you disagree with his current role or something? Do you not like Wiley (who, if I might add, seems to be having some success, judging by some of the amazing career turnarounds the Marlins have had with relievers)? I don't get it. Erik: I understand that it's an opinion. As far as in the standings go you are right, a loss or win is a loss or win no matter what game it is. All I am saying and it's my opinion that, if you are going to have a slump whether it be pitching or hitting, I'd rather have it at the first of the year. I want to be playing my best baseball in the second half, you know kind of like the Rockies now. They sucked at the first of the year (15 1/2 games back) and now they are only 2 back of the division and are leading in the wild card. Yes, I disagree with his current role. He is a ninth inning guy, who, when he is healthy, is really pretty good. Wiley's success? I'm not buying it because look at our current starters. What has he done for the pitching staff? We have 1 solid starter (Josh Johnson) and the others are hit and miss. I said in another post but Mark Wiley hasn't taught him anything this year. A good pitching coach would have taught him something offspeed by now don't you think? Donnelly (sp) is the one who told him that he needed to hide the ball more and changed his delivery a little bit, not Wiley-although he would like to take the credit for it. DFA-IMO would be better for his career. IMO Right now, he's our 8th inning guy. That's good enough for a guy with a 1.61 WHIP on the year. They're giving him chances. Lindstrom's last 2 nights (despite not getting the "save") have been just as important as Leo Nunez outings (I know you're a big fan of the closer's role, but c'mon...you don't think Lindstrom's role has been important the last 2 nights?) The only reason why Lindstrom isn't the closer right now is b/c Leo is doing ok with it. But a couple more long balls allowed by Leo, and a couple more outings by Lindstrom (who's had a good August), and guess who the 9th inning guy is, again? You're apparently forgetting the fact that the Marlins WANT Lindstrom to close. That was the plan when the year started, and they gave him lots of chances to prove himself...he was just way too shaky, and he ended up on the DL. If Lindstrom continues to pitch the way he has lately, he's going to close for this team, again. Even if he doesn't take the job permanently, he's going to get chances, I'd bet (remember I'm the same guy who told you that Lindstrom would sooner or later start getting chances again in meaningful situations...has it happened? Yes.) The Marlins would prefer not to use Leo back-to-back-to-back days, so Lindstrom will get a couple more of those "save opportunities" this year. And if he doesn't, I really hope he's not a guy who buys into the closer hype thing, and gets discouraged. Seriously, tell him that the 8th is just as important as the 9th, if he does. Chances to close won't be many if he is always pitching the inning before Nunez. He is the one coming of the DL, not Nunez. I agree with this and I'll tell him. However, going from being the closer and feling like the man to the setup role, is like being the CEO of a company and going back down to regional manager. Yeah you make good money being regional, but not as much if you were CEO. You know as well as I do that players play baseball to make money not because they love the game.

DFA is almost never the right decision. Why DFA a guy you can trade? Whatever comes first. Are you a Matt Lindstrom fan, or a Marlins fan? Do I have to be one or the other or can I be both?

what a find Paulino has been. Backup catcher off the scrap heap, .745 ops. Another Beinseft win. And look what the pen has done these last 2 games. Starting pitchers give 6 innings but both games have been close ... and the pen's come in and shut things down as usual. Marlins biggest assests: Hanley, Josh Johnson, and the bullpen (not in any particular order).

Yeah we beat the Mets who have like 1 original starter playing. Hey a win is a win; we will take what we can get.

I don't see the difference. Sucking in game 1 is equivalent to sucking in game 162. Also, you missed my point. I never said "DFA Lindstrom." I just think it's stupid to consider DFA'ing Pinto as someone suggested earlier...and Lindstrom just so happened to be a good analogy for me. I'm fine with this current bullpen. (another arm wouldn't hurt, but whatever...considering that it was supposed to be the team's weakness, it's been far from that) Don't agree, that's fine. I didn't miss your point. I'd like to see him DFA'ed that's all.

Pinto has been better than Lindstrom. Lindstrom was pitching hurt like Gregg was pitching hurt last year. I call BS. Also...you must be forgetting some of the past. Lindstrom was sent down to the minors last year for being horrible...remember? At least Pinto doesn't get his tits ripped in the process after giving up the walks. Lindstrom does. Why are you always busting Lindstrom's balls? This forum wasn't even about him and yet you turned it into bantering him when he has been pretty decent lately. You call BS to his injury? I call BS to you breakig your femur? You can't prove his injury any more than I can prove your femur injury. Why are you bringing up last year? The results last year were Lindstrom > Pinto; especially in the second half when it actually matters. What's your point? Pinto is overworked, Lindstrom is trying to get back and help the team. You don't care about this but 1/3 of Lidstrom's runs has come in 2 innings. I doesn't help either that whenever another reliever comes in to "rescue" Lindstrom it seems like they usually give up his runs. My point is...if you want to DFA Pinto, then you might as well DFA Lindstrom. Pinto has been better than Lindstrom this year. And I brought up last year b/c the poster said that Lindstrom has been more consistent. He hasn't. He was sent down last year, as well. PS - The second half doesn't mean more than the first half, so I have no idea what you meant by that. In terms of era, yeah you are right. However, tonight Pinto was terrible and cost them a game in the standings. Let me ask you this: If you were a player or pitcher and assume you were slumping or struggling with command would you want to do that in the first half (games before the All-Star break) or the second half (games after the All-Star break)? You often hear that the games after the All-Star break are the most important because the season is winding down and the playoff races are getting closer. Lindstrom is doing better so give the kid some credit. If you watch the games you will notice that his arm slot is better and he is hiding the ball too. As a student of the game you can understand this by watching some of the swings batters are taking. He will be able to help the team in the end like he always has. PS- I would be tickled if they DFA Lindstrom. Anything to get away from Gonzalez and Wiley. The first half means just as much as the second half. I agree, but, if you are going to suck....suck it up in the first half not the second. Lindstrom usually has solid second halfs. Like I said, DFA him and I'm positive his feelings won't be hurt.....whatever.

8/21 (and 22) Post Game
Despite his 3-run HR, and hard hit ball there at the end, I'd like to thank Adam LaRoche for his stupid baserunning move in the 9th, as well. I guess he just wanted the game to end just like us, as well. Right, his run didn't even matter even if he would of made it to 2nd and scored on a base hit.

Too bad Johnson sucked tonight; actually the umpire sucked royally. Positives were the bullpen giving the offense a chance to come back. Oh well 44 more games to go, anything can happen.

Any chance of still trading for a closer?
The whole bullpen and Starting rotation are a risk!.Except Joshy of course. Really? Gee, with a whole bullpen and 80% of the rotation being a risk (not to mention the fact that our corner OF'ers will absolutely kill us!), it's amazing that we are where we are! We've beaten some good teams with these risk's and yes it is amazing that we are where we are. Keep riding the winning wave I guess. The reason being that he's wrong, and the team hasn't been that bad. Our bullpen hasn't been that bad, Ricky Nolasco's been just been fine since coming back from the minors (I wouldn't call him a risk), and our OF isn't nearly as bad as he said it would be (in a previous thread that he started a couple months ago, which he still hasn't admitted to being wrong too...he did bump it once though when the #'s were in his favor just to say he was right). I got you. I didn't know ya'll had a history and I knew nothing about previous threads. I don't think the team has been bad at all. Bullpen scary sometimes and starting pitching too. Oh well it matters how you finish the season and remember last year when the Marlins didn't win back to back games he whole month of August. Yeah we've surpassed that and more so far this month. The race is going to be fun to watch if they keep hitting like this.

leo has really been getting smacked around lately Good observation. Do you think that organizations have scouting reports on Leo Nunez? I think so. Spit on the fastball and hit the changeup or spit on the changeup and hit the 2-seamer over the right field fence.

I swear I hate Nuñez
Blown saves happen. No biggie. But he is 2 innings shy of his career high and has already appeared in 11 more games than his career high. In this heat and humidity he is going to tire, regardless of what his fans think. He is human. He's just not used to that or the pressure of closing. Maybe next year with a very good off season workout program and the experience of this season he will be the closer some try to make him out to be this year. Not near his career high in innings. There's no greater pressure in closing. Career high in innings at this level. He's 2 innings shy. Much different than throwing to guys that probably will never make it to the bigs. Seems as if the only ones that think there is no more pressure closing than any other relief pitcher gets are the ones that have never played MLB. It's not what the actual players say all the time. People can argue all they want about how important the closers role is. Fact is, the players, FOs, and coaching staffs think it is. I think I will go by that. I have to agree with this too.
-
John Smoltz?
It's not, really. I also have a strong belief that the Marlins want Lindstrom to work things out. The Marlins are going to be patient with Lindstrom just like they're going to be patient with Bonifacio. It's what they want. Whether it's Leo closing/Lindstrom setting up or Lindstrom closing/Leo setting up, you can bet that that's what they are looking forward to. It really doesn't matter, either, as the Marlins pretty much "Moneyball" their way with closers (they believe each and everyone of them is replaceable, which as you know, I think is great b/c I think the closer's role is overrated). Anyways, we're not going to overpay relievers. Kiko Calero will likely not be on this team, next year. As good as he's been, it's just the way the Marlins roll. He's having a great year, so he's going to gain interest from a lot of teams (might even get a multi-year contract). The Marlins won't do that...they never have. And they're not going to start with Kiko, who's turning 35, next year. Same applies to the Sanches'/Donnelly's...I doubt they're around next year (not that they'll get Kiko type cash, but the Marlins tend to this with relievers...last year with Joe Nelson, a couple years back with Lee Gardner being good examples/comparisons). At this point, the Marlins bullpen next year will most likely look something like this: Leo, Lindstrom, Meyer, and Pinto. The other 3 we'll likely do the same thing we do every year, and find a gem...or maybe use one of our prospects for one of the slots, as well (Rick VandenHurk comes to mind...so does Anibal Sanchez, depending how he comes back). EDIT: I forgot Badenhop. He'll fit in somewhere, too. Good thoughts in this post bro. Nice
