"Passed" balls being called "wild pitches." Bad defensive plays that aren't actually errors. Just for example. 3 run save overrated? Probably, but that's the rule. One of the many scoring guidelines I care very little about, and yet have to live with. Most will never change. Bottom line......I long for the days when I could relax knowing the guys coming into the game in the 8th and 9th were going to get the job done. Consistently. You just proved my point. 8th & 9th...considering the "closer" hardly ever pitches the 8th anymore...middle relievers are just as important (some would argue more important b/c they are often brought in, in tougher situations...with runners on base, etc.) Lindstrom doesn't have 11 "saves" without the holds from Kiko, Leo, and Meyer this year. Yet, come arbritration time, Lindstrom (despite being worse than all 3 by a fair margin, thus far this year) will end up getting more money, just b/c his category says "saves" while the others have "holds," which for the most part is the same sh*t (especially for Leo Nunez, the setup guy, who just so happens to save the 8th, instead of the 9th). It's all part of the game. Fair margin? If you could take away the 7 run inning against the Phillies and the 2 runs that Nunez allowed 2 nights ago, Lindstrom's era isn't 6 but about 2.83. He's ran into some bad luck (he being the cause of most of it) but he hasn't pitched that bad. Not as good as the others, but still he hasn't done that bad. Saves ovverated? Probably. But important nonetheless. You get paid a hell of a lot more for getting the closer opportunity than being a setup guy. Given the chance to close came from confidence in the organization that you got the job done and can continue to do so. That's just the system MLB and FO of baseball organizations go by; like it or not that's just the way it is.

You posted 2, I was looking for the many you stated in your post. Nonetheless I get the point and appreciate the reads, however, I found them rather boring. I'm not sure if Jim Caple was athlete or just a columnist for ESPN (I honestly don't know anything about him)? I'm sure he has done the research, but, I'll bet he'd say otherwise if stuck in the position as closer. It's easy for columnists to just sit back and analyze the game and come up with an opinion. In a way that is all that we as posters do. I'd be much more a believer if one of the baseball tonight guys wrote an article about it. It is what it is. He has great potential when he throws offspeed for strikes and doesn't walk anybody. If he continues to struggle then Leo Nunez should get the opportunity because he has pitched better. You believe that a save is overrated and I don't which is fine. Bonaficio shouldn't be in the lineup, let alone in the major leagues. These are just a few that I can think of, feel free to add more. Not Everyone is Trevor Hoffman and even Mariano blew a save last night. I'm just waiting for the day where people say I MIGHT just be correct about Lindstrom...about him not being Mr.Dominant. Matt Lindstrom closing games is about as big a joke as Emilio Bonifacio leading off. As I've said...good thing the role, itself, is pretty overrated. Pretty sad we can't rely on him for a 3 run lead, however. We're just babying him & making excuses for him b/c he throws 100 and it looks fancy. Fact is, he's no better than Kevin Gregg...the guy everyone loves making fun of. The only difference is, Fredi appears to have learned from last year...so now, when Lindstrom struggles, he has guys ready to replace him. No one is calling him Mr. Dominant. I thought Uggla looked silly in the 9th on defense. That was a very easy ball to field and make a throw. Lindstrom was absolute nasty, now, lets see if he can do that night in and night out. Consistency has been his biggest issue. I like that he threw mostly offspeed and set up with the fastball. This was a very good way to start the month. Yes and no. He did look silly, it wasn't a very easy ball to field and throw. He should have fielded it for sure in my book but it wasn't going to be very easy and that throw was going to be very tough to get the runner. Any other second baseman in baseball makes that play and makes it look easy, very easy. They showed a replay and JJ Hardy was hardly out of the box when Uggla got to the ball, plus Hardy isn't the fastest player either. Is range too much to ask for when you play in the big leagues? Well, we as fans are losing patience with you Mr. Loria.

People complained last year about Gregg's wildness (including myself)...right now, Lindstrom is only worse. He's also, easily, the most frustrating player on this team. At least to me he is. The reason why is b/c from observation, he is really nasty. But fact is, he has trouble putting hitters away, and it always leads to the same things with him...inconsistency. When was the last time we'd won a series before this? Great job by Badenhop tonight. Lindstrom scared me in the 9th, though. Lindstrom scared me in the 9th, though. I think he scared everyone unless you watched the game or at least his inning. I thought he located his pitches pretty good. You have to give some credit to the hitters on the Phillies-they can flat out rake. If you make a mistake then they make you pay for it. A couple balls floated over the middle and they got hit hard. It just goes to show you in the Jason Werth at-bat that all he is looking for is the fastball. He spit on 3 sliders and got the fastball and hit it up the middle. Feliz hit a fastball too. I thought the walk to Matt Stairs was fine because he is all or nothing. I would have rather faced the struggling Jimmy Rollins than Matt Stairs. It worked out well in the end as Rollins lined out softly to Cody. Ballgame. I think it would make everyone feel comfortable if Lindstrom was more consistent. I guess that comes with being put in time and time again and facing the heat.

I agree with Erick, however, Emilio has been very poor in the lead off spot. Think about it, no one has any confidence in him to get on base. A leadoff hitter should be creating havoc, taking pitches, fouling pitches off, doing absolute everything to get on base. Most of the time he is a for sure out so that leaves the next guy to get on base. A lot of the games I've seen have been with Hanley coming up with nobody on. Last night Coghlan gave the 3-4-5 hitters opportunities to hit him in. Yeah, Boni isn't the main problem, but, nonetheless he contributes to the problems significantly. Yes, the starting pitching needs to improve too. (Excludes JJ and Volstad-they have been pretty good)

Great job by Volstud. Wes Helms shoved it up his former teams butt! Coghlan is looking comfortable in the leadoff spot. Take notes Boni! Leo looked good after blowing a save and getting the loss against Tampa. Good for Lindstrom (not the walk to Victorino) but battling and not giving in. I was hoping that he would do pretty good and get his confidence back against ths team. A big F-U to all those who don't believe in this team.

This was a hard loss to take on the back of a superb outing from Miller. Despite giving up the long ball, I thought Martinez looked ok. I blame Pinto for this loss! Without his crapiness yesterday we wouldnt have had such a problem with the bullpen and would of had Nunez-Lindstrom in the 8th and 9th. Obviously I cant guarantee they would have held the lead but I feel they would of had a better chance than a guy making his debut. I blame Pinto for this loss! I blame Cody Ross for not coming through with a sac fly with bases loaded. Like a lot of people have been saying on this forum, our situational hitting right now is atrocious! There have been a lot of situations where one hit would of blown the game open and unfortunately the team hasn't gotten that hit. Yeah, you can blame the bullpen, but if the hitters would actually hit, then the pressure on the bullpen would be relieved a little (did I say a little? I meant a lot).
