7/29 Mets @ Marlins 7:10 PM
Lets hope they can take games two and three with Eovaldi and Alvarez, because game four will be a nightmare with Koehler vs HARVEY....s***. I wish it were Fernandez-Harvey...that'd be a gem.

The Marlins got a call early on a play at first base where the Mets base runner was safe, but the fish have been on the wrong side of a few terrible, pivotal plays. With Wheeler and Harvey pitching in two of the next three and Fernandez not starting this series, the Marlins needed to win this to give them a shot at taking the series. Rally time!

What spots in the order are Yelich and Marisnick projected to hold down as they continue to grow? Marisnick seems to be a nice 5-6 guy with his projected power. The Marlins are going to be counting on him for homeruns once 2015-16 rolls around. Aside from Stanton, I dont see any future 30 homerun guys on the roster or in the organization. However, that can be made up by 4-5 other guys getting 20+...I see Marisnick, Moran, Morrison, and possibly Yelich. Morrison will have to keep improving for this to happen consistently, however. Hopefully they draft Alex Jackson next year (if they dont have the top pick--Rodon would be the choice here) to add to the mix.

Couple of questions about some top prospects....is there an ETA on when Moran will be the everyday third baseman? Also, does Heaney have a chance to make the rotation out of spring training next season?..and what will the marlins do when Heaney, Flynn, Nicolino, and Conley are MLB ready (next year)? There is speculation Conley may go to the bullpen, but with Fernandez, Turner, Eovaldi, and Alvarez already in the rotation, do the Marlins move a few of the SP to the bullpen, keep them in the minors, or package a few in a trade? I think it is far too early to move any young arms, as we do not know who will perform at the major league level. Having a surplus of young SP is definitely a good "problem" to have and once everyone gets settled into their roles during 2014-16, look for the FO to move a few prospects to bring in the final pieces of the puzzle.

7/26 Pirates @ Marlins
just a quick question...with the organization having a decent amount of quality young pitching and OF prospects, which direction will the Marlins head in next year's draft?..presumably they will have a top 3 pick, with an outside chance for the #1 overall. Will they take the best player available, or go for a position of need. I wouldn't be upset if Hech remains the starting SS for the next decade, given his outstanding defense, but one of the top players available is SS Trea Turner from NC State. Do they take another pitcher or go after a position player?

7/23 - Marlins @ Rockies - 8:40 PM
What are the Marlins plans for the future of the Catching position. Mathis is a solid vet and can be a good mentor for the young catchers, but do the Marlins feel their catcher of the future is in the organization or is there work to be done in finding one? Do they view Brantly or JT Realmuto as the future backstop? Is anyone familiar with Realmuto's game? Any insight would be great. Also, is LoMo the future at first base?

Hech is on a hot-streak right now...there hasnt been much power either. He is finding holes in the defense and balls are finding a way through. I like that he is starting to use his speed when he gets on base. I would love for Hech to develop into our SS of the future, but unless the bat catches up I dont think he is the SS 3-4 years from now.

Hoping the extra rest for Fernandez will benefit him in this start. Looking to see 7 IP and good velocity. The lineup for the Marlins gives us a little taste of what's to come...the future is bright in Miami if the FO doesnt screw it up. O wait...its the Marlins...they will screw it up. In all honesty tho, an OF consisting of Yelich, Marisnick, Stanton with the 4th OF being Ozuna looks pretty good to me. All incredibly young and they project well. As far as the infield, there are a few more question marks. Third base is covered with this years 1 round pick Colin Moran. Shortstop is up in the air...the Marlins have one of the best defensive SS in the game in Hechevarria (I dont care what the stats say; anyone who has seen him play defense knows he is the real deal), but he doesnt have the bat...he is replacable. Second base is up in the air but the Marlins have a few nice prospects in Dietrich and the young Avery Romero in the minors. Romero projects to be the better overall hitter. First base is Lo-Mo's to lose...if he performs well, he stays. If not, this position MUST be filled with an elite power bat (via draft or FA). The starting rotation is going to be young, cheap, and filthy good once everyone gets here. With the surplus of MLB caliber arms, look for the Fish to trade a few of them down the line when they are playoff contenders (around 2016 they should be perennial contenders) and bring back the missing pieces (depending on who doesnt pan-out). Keep in mind that the Fish will probably have the top pick in next year's draft, where another ace will be waiting for them to snatch up, likely Carlos Rodon. 2015 rotation: Fernandez, Heaney, Rodon, Turner, Alvarez/ Eovaldi (if he isnt the closer)....with Nicolino, Conley, and many many more waiting for their call. p.s. look at what Josh Johnson, Bonifacio, and the rest of the crew are doing in Toronto. Remember, if they trade Giancarlo, they will get nothing less than two future all star position players and a future ace. Add that to the equation and they look even better.

Marlins A Playoff Team in 2013?
Who is the top prospect for the 2014 draft? Lets just put him in A ball right now and get a head start on his development. Anyone know what Vegas has the over/under on wins for the marlins in 2013? I know it's early, but it's not there is any combination of availale AND attainable players that can turn this team into a playoff contender next season.

New Manager Contest
After Ozzie dug his own grave about five minutes after he arrived in Miami, the FO could mend a lot of PR issues by hiring Conine.
-
Jeff Pasan's take on the teams moves/motives.
For those of us who have loyalty to the Marlins and did not become fans for the wrong reasons, I think the FO is doing what it has to do to put a winner on the field for the future. As stated by others, thee is no way in hell that anyone could have predicted that so many players would be overhwelmingly underachieving. Lets go through the line-up and see how everyone has been doing 1. Reyes-underperformed 2. Boni-played pretty well, but was injured for two months 3. Hanley-no comment 4. Stanton-Carried us for a month but other than that has been very streaky and is now hurt 5. Gaby-in the minors, enough said 6. LoMo-terrible 7. Infante-started out well but slowly tappered off and is now in Detroit 8. Buck-beyond terrible Out of the projected starting line-up, only Boni and Stanton have played up to expectations, but both have had long stints on the DL. No one, and I mean NO ONE, could have predicted so many players have careers lows in almost every category. If everyone would have just played average, given their respective abilities, we would be in the thick of the division and at worst the wild card race. Lets look at next year...will depend on if we move JJ or not, but it could look something like this. Believe me, Loria knows what everyone is saying about the Marlins and how they are back to their old ways. I think he is going to go above and beyond this winter to show everyone we are still for real and last winter was not a one time thing. Trade: JJ (I hope not, but it seems inevitable), Nolasco, Gaby, and Buck if we can. By trading JJ we can bring back a ton of talent (rumored: 3 future studs). If they do in fact trade JJ then Loria will go above and beyond to put a winner on the field next year. 1. Reyes-SS 2. Bourn-CF 3. Hamilton LF 4. Stanton-RF 5. Olt/FA-3B 6. Morrison-1B 7. Bonifacio-2B 8. Buck-C Bench: IF-Solano, Dobbs, FA OF-Ruggiano, Peterson With the exception of Buck, the line-up is deadly. I hope a bunch of catchers get hurt this week so we can unload his ass to a desperate team. But even then, anyone could call their local high school team's catcher and get the same performance as Buck God damnit why couldnt this year have worked out

Hanley, Choate to LA for Eovaldi, McGough
It went like this...The Marlins could have fetched a better return had they paid 8-12M per year for the next two years. However, instead of an unproven prospect, Beinfest chose to take a lesser return with the hopes of using the expendable cash on a proven player in FA. Would you rather have a few more average prospects or the ability to sign Josh Hamiltion? I know 12M isnt getting Hamilton here, but it makes the FO's decision 12M easier. That 12M can also bring in more quality pitching to replace Zombrano and Nolaso, who better be a goner by next year. Keep: Reyes, Boni, Stanton, Ruggiano Trade: Buck, Lee, Morrison keep the elite speed and keep the elite power. Those are the two things you cant find on every block. Marlins should get rid of the the replacable/average guys and bring in better, proven players, while giving the kids a chance to play the remainder of the season. Looks like the fish are losing a lot, and we are, but this is a realistic situation and it very well might happen. The team will be much better going in to next year if we can make the right trades and sign the right FA. If they have the money, why not spend it on proven guys instead of sitting here hoping the Hanley Ramirez' and Logan Morrison's of the world will turn it around. FO did the right thing IMO. DO NOT TRADE JOSH JOHNSON!!!!! LoMo doesn't even turn 25 til next month. Waaay too early to give up on him. And Josh Hamilton in Miami sounds like a definite disaster. I was going to make a "maybe" category for LoMo, but I decided that I think they should trade him. He can be used as the centerpiece in a deal to bring in a SP. If he stays I won't be unhappy either, but he has frustrated the hell out of me. I want to see this potential everyone speaks of

Hanley, Choate to LA for Eovaldi, McGough
Also, I was checking out the LAD boards and many of them are not thrilled about the trade. They are worried about the contract, his attitude, and becoming a cancer in the clubhouse Not to mention, many are saying that they are upset with giving up Eobaldi, but also glad it was him and not Zach Lee. They were saying that they believed he was their future #2 behind Kershaw and will be one of the best young pitchers in the game. Bias hometown fans, so you gotta take it with a grain of salt, but still...its not like LAD nation thinks they stole one from us

Marlins interested in Garza
if Gaby goes, Cespedes is ours. LoMo to 1B, Boni to LF, Cespedes in CF

Yoenis Cespedes to Athletics
does anyone know how he performed against quality pitching at the WBC? I know he put up good stats overall, but I was wondering how he did against the good teams, like the USA, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, etc. I dont think anyone cares how he did against China or whatever. If he did well, this could be a glimpse at his potential to handle ML pitching. Small sample size. I understand its a small sample size, but what else do we have to go off of? How he performed against A ball pitching in Cuba?

speaking of tendered contracts....ronny paulino was non-tendered. would love to have him back on the team.

Gio Gonzalez to Nationals
I know many of you probably already know this, but how come no one ever talks about how Gio is from Miami, Florida. Being from wayyy up in Wisco, I dont hear about the local kids, like Gio, as much. I feel like players prefer to play near their family and friends, so that would give us leverage in signing him long-term, right? Make it happen!

Prince Fielder to Tigers
Rosenthal made a good point today on mlb network, there's not that many sluggers in the next coming years, he said essentially until Stanton. If we were to sign Fielder we would potentially have the two best young sluggers available for the coming years That just tells me that the Marlins should just go ahead and buy Stanton's arbitration this offseason and plan to do what it takes to keep him in Miami. Stanton is a perfect human specimen to the point where he's not even human. Prince Fielder, despite his power, is the exact opposite. Disagree strongly. Stanton is a perfect human specimen, don't get me wrong, but how can you say Prince is the exact opposite? Think about having to deal with this line-up...it's a manager's match-up nightmare. 1. Reyes-switch 2. Boni-switch 3. Hanley-right 4. Prince-Left 5. Stanton-Right 6. Morrison-Left 7. Cespedes-Right (I hope, but doubt he signs) or Infante-Right 8. Buck-Right If you want to move Hanley up to the 2 hole it is still pretty much the same thing no matter where you put Boni

Prince Fielder to Tigers
I don't want Prince, with his build he is going to start a decline pretty soon. As it is, Gabby Sanchez already represents one first baseman too many on this team. We should acquire an outfielder and trade Gabby at max trade value. I'm just not sure what he gets you. To get the kind of SP we'd want, seems like we would have to pair him with the kind of prospect/s that would gut an already bare minors... I don't hate the idea, but I'm still partial to good cheap players. I would expect that Dominguez and one of our descent young pitchers would have to move out as well, but Dominguez is blocked, and if we acquired another pitcher, our young pitchers would be looking at 5 established legit ML starters that they would have to beat out. I like Sanchez, he is inexpensive, reliable and under team control, but Morrison is a decade-long type feature player and he is getting his ass kicked, physically, in the OF. The year is weak for FA OF overall, so it wouldn't break my heart to ride Sanchez out another season, but something has to give, and adding Prince just keeps Morrison in an ill-suited position for years to come. Lomo should be traded over Sanchez, IMO. I believe he is viewed as the better trade prospect and would bring us back better SP, which we need to contend with the Phils. We also wouldn't have to dig as far into our farm system. He is a ML ready which other teams will like and it will be good to get rid of him. He has his mind on the wrong things and can't seem to focus on baseball like a true professional should. His teammates don't trust him...going public with his complaints about other players straight up dishonored the team. It's a win-win...we can bring back better talent AND get rid of the cancer WS teams can't tolerate

Anyone else pissed that they're likely not going after Fielder sim
I don't think we have to overpay for Prince. Offer him a CC type contract where he can opt-out after 3 years. His agent has been hinting that might be what it takes. If Texas ends up offering this type of contract and we don't, Ill be pissed. A 7 year deal puts him back on the market when he is 35...and he is looking at Beltran-type scenario if that plays out. Be smart, Prince. Take a 3 year deal with a high annual salary and allow yourself one more big pay day. Come to the Fish and win not one, not two, not three...

Prince Fielder to Tigers
Overlooking Prince is going to cost us if we end up moving Gaby in a trade for SP. Without Prince, LoMo shifts to 1B and then we have to rely on Cogs/Peterson to hold down LF. I think if we are contenders at the trade deadline, in this situation, we would go out and make a move to get a quality bat for LF. However, this is going to cost us prospects/players we shouldn't have to give up if we just signed Prince right now. LoMo can stay in LF and Gaby can be sent packing. To me, there are only two options. 1. Sign Prince 2. Sign a stud OF so when Gaby/Lomo is traded for pitching we are not left with a bunch of unknowns. Cespedessssss!!!!! Nobody suggested trading Gaby without getting another bat in the lineup. Trading Gaby was only if Pujols was coming down south. He's not. Gaby is staying. If Gaby went to the A's for Gio, would we get a major league ready OF too? or would we have to explore other options. Maybe getting a third team involved would be a good idea..but we would probably have to give up too much. I say we just sign Prince to take care of 1B, Cespedes for CF, and move LoMo AND Gaby for Gio. That way we don't need a third team to get in on the mix. If Prince isn't signed, idk what we would do. Question: What would it take to get Gio anyway? I am just speculating but maybe some of you know more about this than I do.

Prince Fielder to Tigers
2. Sign a stud OF so when Gaby/Lomo is traded for pitching we are not left with a bunch of unknowns. Cespedessssss!!!!! As long as Cespedes is reasonable, I wouldn't mind moving LoMo to get Gio... Getting Cespedes (or Fielder) is probably the only way I would be willing to part with LoMo. Finding a stud SP is more difficult than finding a OF replacement. I know LoMo has a high ceiling, but if we can get Gio for him then we have to do it. Having said that, there are too many teams in on Gio and someone is going to overwhelm the A's with an offer they can't refuse. Something like Gaby AND LoMo, along with a top pitching prospect and a mid-level prospect would get it done, but there is no way in hell we can do that at this point. If Cespedes comes along, LoMo NEEDS to be sent packing. He is a cancer and only cares about how pullin tale. I got news for you LoMo...you're a pretty boy b**** and there are far more important people on this team than your injury prone ass.
