I got so excited about the Hialeah site, but the more I think about it the more I like the Dolphins Mall site.

the Turnpike, the 836 (yeah, more traffic!!) and a future Metrorail site

Does this site have any potential drawbacks? Is the Dolphins Mall site all good?

The Dolphin mall site has no on site MetroRail and the cost of acquiring it may be expensive compared to the city owned Hialeah Park. The location is not as central in Dade county or south florida as hialeha park.

I really dont care, as long as we get a stadium. I think Hialeah would be interesting because it has been a long time for that place and a renaissance there would be nice. (My uncle, like Charlie Hough, got drafted out of Hialeah by the Cubs).

But I am not so sure that Hialeah Park is a better site than empty land around Dolphin Mall. I would like to see a map, but from what I know it is more north than DMall and located along 934. Traffic would be an issue and you can forget Metro Rail.

Cape, I looked at your link (which I just noticed) with Hialeah Park and Bank One superimposed. I didnt realize that there was soooo much space. Parking would not be a problem at all. I would be very interested if they could develop that land into some kind of ballpark/shopping complex. Done right, of course, it could be a boon for Hialeah. It could have landscaping features like palm trees and lakes, etc. Could be really nice, but that is just me.

Good options all the way around still exist for the Marlins. It is obvious that the city's offer was not really all that accomadating.

the size of bank one according to terraserver is correctly scaled to the hialeah park picture, but it has been doubted that it is correct. I don't know what to tell you, but I believe it to be accurate.

Is the Dophin Mall that off-price mall out in west dade, west of 826 near the end of 836? You realize it is about 1000 miles from nowhere when it comes to Broward/Pam Beach county fans right? Even for someone like me, who lives along the coast in Miami-Dade, going cross-county is a nightmare. Because there's so many roads north - Collins, Biscayne, 95 and 441 - and only one west 836 (112 for all intents and purposes ends at the airport) I would think any site that depends on either, nevermind both 826 and 836 is dead on arrival. Both highways are near impassable an hour before gametimes and if the Marlins located along those corridors fans would trade traffic for inclement weather (whether it be rain, heat, etc.) as their big excuse not to go to games.

I have to believe the Marlins are going to focus all their attention on the either the Florida Turnpike Extension or the 95 corridor and as far north of the Ciy of Miami as possible now. It's one thing to draw up a downtown Miami businessplan where you can expect to draw from a densely populated urban base that has great enough numbers that by itself can sustain your enterprise, but once you abandon that plan and go to plan B and you no longer have those heavy downtown body counts, reconnecting with your Broward/WPB fanbase it going to be critical.

From Broward/PBC, 95 south at or shortly after rush hour is a walk in the park compared to the life and death travails of 826 and 836 each night and as I pointed out above traveling north to the park offers a variety of options.

Look north young man, look north.

Even if it is not the right scale, I dont think it would be all that much larger than the track. There is certainly enough space there to fit a baseball park and parking. I hope that your image is correct, and I too thought it to be a little small. But I know nothing about how large each structure truly is.

it is not that off scale. It was called into question if the park wouldn't clip the track, not overtake it.

Why? Is the plan to keep the track while having the stadium at the same time? I am not sure what the plan there would be...

Actually It's also right OFF the turnpike, so people could take 595 if your coming from the Noth or the Turnpike or 836. I live 5 minutes from the Dolphin mall and I would say that area is VERY accessible.

If the Dolphin Mall is OK what?s wrong with the Sawgrass/Office Depot area.

Which leads to another questions. Maybe I haven't been paying attention but where are the Broward politicians on this issue.

Can we stop fighting over which county it should be in? I am tired of this rivalry that gets us nowhere. Dade County is willing to pay, so they get the ballpark. Stop b***hing about it not being close to you. I live in Lee County and would be willing to make the two to three hour drive regularly. I can't get a season tix package this season because I have previous business obligtions, but if I and the other Marlins fans who live outside the metro area can drive 2+ hours, you can drive an extra 15 to 20 minutes.

This problem has almost doomed the Rangers, Twins, Devil Rays (MLB in Tampa Bay) and th Giants/A's.

We have a team in South Florida, let's work to keep them here.

You?re an exception. If there were 60,000 people just like you ? and me - in south Florida we would not be having this discussion. There just are not enough of us (now) to fill a stadium. Filling a stadium is about making it attractive to the casual fan.

You right to a degree ? and you know what it?s like down here, its one big metropolitan area. Site selection shouldn?t be about the imaginary lines that separate Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. Is should be about picking the best long term solution for the Fish.

Because the Miami-Dade politicians have the money, Miami-Dade is the best site for the Miami-Dade politicians ? is it the best site for the Marlins?

For what It?s worth the Dolphin Mall, PPS (area), or the Sawgrass would be just fine with me. But I think downtown Miami or the OB will be a fiasco (without major transportation upgrades).

im losing faith in loria

he did ythe same GARBAGE in montreal

he ha a stadium ready to go and now he needs a roof, bulls***

now hes offering half, what an a**hole

he really is the loser all expos fans said he is, im not going to any games untill the truth on this issue comes out

im losing faith in loria

You're losing faith on an owner who is using his money to field a competitive team.

Another reason why South Florida doesn't deserve it's team... mostly ungrateful fanbase...

how can you criticize a owner that came in and in his second year put a championship team together to win. Not only win the world series, but to beat one of the greatest franchises in sports history. Fans like you is the reason why we don't have a stadium. if we had 50% of the fan base we had during the playoffs all last year we would be two steps closer to a stadium.

Okay, hands down, you win the most uninformed post of the week award. Congratulations, your prize is in the mail.

RACE TRACK

PPS

Check it out guys, i found scale size models of the race track and PPS, as you can see, the race track has alot more area then PPS (PPS a football stadium mind you)

labbat field was ready to gpo in montreal but loria held back because he wanted a roof

its looking like the same crap here too

just dont be surprised if other cities names start getting thrown aroun

even chu diaz, local sports commentator, said that arriola and other miami officials are thinking that loria is already talking with other cities

loria is no innocent guy either

and for the record, i give credit to beinfest, and mckeon more than loria to win the WS

signing all those players/resigning only brings up the value of the marlins for other cities/counties

just dont be surprised at anything loria does

Loria presented LaBatt Park in Montreal in his first year as owner (he ws only owner for 2 season) and was laughed at by the City of Montreal. LaBatt didn't need a roof because it was discovered that Montreal is temperate during the season, which wasn't the case back when the Expos played at Jarry Park.

I think you should do your homework before you start losing "faith."

Loria was ready to build, but Montreal didn't support it so he gave all the seat and suite money back and sold the team. The mayor of Montreal thought it wasn't worth keeping baseball in Montreal because Mr. Loria was not Canadian. People didn't trust him, even though he was going to pay more than half of the ballpark.

is that so?

then let me get some expos fans up in here who say(and have shown me information) on how loria ditched that proposal

that land was even reserved for it

you people really do think loria=jesus or something

labatt was ruined for the "need" of a roof

beggars cant be choosey, and that why we most likely wont get a stadium
