Josh Beckett

He has not looked so great this spring. He has given up more runs than any of our starters and has lost MOST of his starts in ST. Do any of you think there is cause for concern? I mean, I thought it was because he might have been trying some things early in spring,m but by now I would have thought that he would be getting into form and still he did not look so great against the Orioles yesterday.

I'm not too worried yet. Some pitchers need to feel that intensity of a real game, and you don't get that in Spring Training.

I'm not worried at all, this is ST after all. The point of ST is to prepare yourself for the season, warm up, and experiement with your pitches or whatever you feel like you need to do. Because it doesn't count so no reason to get yourself all worked up in ST when you have 162 games ahead of you.

I'm not getting all worked up, I just noticed that the rest of our starters are having good springs and Beckett is not. I am not that worried yet, but I really hope it is just a ST thing for him. we'll see.

just FYI, the one game I saw Beckett pitch, the only time the Cardinals really put together a rally was when he was experimenting with his changeup. His fastball looked sick, and his curve was filthy. I was never expecting 22 wins from him, and he looks like he'll be ready to step it up when the season starts. He's going to be fine...

I'm not too worried and know he will have a great season.

I agree he doesn't look ready to start the season..compared to the other starters...so I wouldn't be surprised to see him get off to a slow start and pick up the pace as the season gets going.

I'm not worried because Beckett dosent have anything as all to prove so he can look at these games as pointless. But with guys like Castro, Choi and some relivers I tend to worry because they are the ones trying to prove something so spring training actully means something to them.

And IMO, Choi and Castro are doing a pretty damn good job so far.

not worried one bit,as a former pitcher at high school and college level i could never really get my mind to real game status during fall season or pre-season.once the real season starts i know J.B. will be awsome...

Why worry? He may be returning to Earth, but he's still got the stuff to return to the moon. Don't get me wrong, but before the playoffs last year he was just a .500 pitcher and he still lost two in the post-season. He may need another challenge, that the regular season will bring. Lost of other young fireballers started off this way too like Randy Johnmson and Nolan Ryan. I'll hold off worrying about Josh until he's 2-10 with a 6.00 ERA and throwing in the 80's.
