Teal Shadow
This is my idea, and my idea only...ok. Well with the weakness in the bully, the catcher position and the lack of $$$. The only thing is will the Marlins buy it and would the Rangers go for it The Rangers need a CF with speed...well Abe Nunez would suit that need. The catcher position is strong with Barajas and Laird. So.... Rangers would trade Barajas and Jay Powell( guess who this former Marlin was traded for) to the Marlins Marlins would trade Abe Nunez, Castro and a prospect to the Rangers If your not sold on Barajas as a Catcher go back and watch the series he has against the Fish as D-Back last year WOW! and Powell a very good set-up guy, plus a former Marlin. I know this is dream, but this trade works for both team. just a thought :thumbup
Ramp
arent the Rangers happy with Nix out there? I dont see this as an upgrade for either team
TarHeel324
we traded bret barberie to get powell, then traded him to houston for ramon castro one snag in this deal: powell makes 3.25 million. so unless we find a way to dump some more salary or have texas take part of his contract, i dont see this happening
Teal Shadow
arent the Rangers happy with Nix out there? I dont see this as an upgrade for either team Nix is OK, but Abe has power and arm. Jay would be an improvement to anything we have down there, plus his a vet. Castro and Barajas don't even compare. Barajas is good player who can hit a breaking pitch. Wild Card
Damnit, I thought you were going throw a blockbuster at us. To think, we could have had Barajas as a ST invite.

Teal Shadow
I don't think there will be a blockbuster trade this summer JMO. That's why a small deal like this one could go a long way. Thank you Mr.Awesome aka Ramp

geemoney
I can't get Powell's awful 2003 numbers out of my head, even though he's done well this year.
Stag5
How about Ron Villone from Seattle for whatever...decent BP guy that costs just $1MM.
NC_Marlin
I'm skeptical about whether or not Nunez is the commodity around baseball that he is on this board. The only way we're going to make a major trade splash is by trading a regular (pavano makes the most sense) or further depleting our farm system. If all goes well with AJ, I say move Pavano for a good bat, turn around whoever that bat replaces in the lineup (SS or C are about the only options I see) and scraps from the bullpen and minors for a reliever. There will be teams looking for starting pitching which is really the only thing we have to too much of. I think trading one of our starters (pavano makes the most sense) is going to be the key to getting better.
Ramp
while we are making ideas, who about this bad boy? Beltran for Pavano, Nunez and Stokes?
Guest Moneyball
we should have signed javy lopez.
DTrizzle
we can not in any way afford to lose pitching at this point its all we have i have found our solution... the answer lies within i can sense it Abraham Nunez is the spark of 2004 we are missing, bat him 2nd. Easley sparks the offense and gets the everyday job at SS. Castillo is moved down in the order because his pinky is f***ed up. BAM

Ramp
we sign javy, we have not offensive problem which equals pitchers not over pitching. WE SIGN JAVY, then we dont have Mike Lowell, or maybe not Brad Penny, or maybe not Benitez and Pavano do you know what you are saying? Guest Moneyball
it wouldn't have killed us to have a 50 million dollar payroll, mike lowell even said it.

We were willing to give Pudge $8M....so I'm not convinced the $$$ were not there to go after Javy....it's just we expected Castro to be a worthy replacement.
