As for the Finley deal: dude, no team will trade their hottest hitter, even if they're playing for .300

They'll trade him before the deadline. Even if they pick up some of his salary next year, shredding some of it gives them a better chance to resign Sexton. That is their goal in the off-season. If he leaves after they gave up a lot of talent for him, they'll look like morons.

 

Also, I'd rank Bautista as their best hitter so far this year with Finley a close second.

Finley is in his final year. That may not be all that unreasonable, but how does he fit with this team. Conine isn't going to sit, as much sense as it makes at times, he's just not going to sit. I think we need to worry about catcher much more than any other position right now though...

finley has had a good career and is having a fine season. But he is just too old. Plus, as said here already, there is no room for him on this team.

You're preaching to the wrong guy, I'm already in agreement that we've got a log-jam in the outfield.

 

My cry is to put Cabrera at first, but Choi is playing well enough to silence me for now. I do think that Conine would be riding the pine if it weren't for the fact that he's Jeff Conine...

Conine can play OF and 1B. Finley can likely play every OF position. If some of you haven't noticed, we tend to play our bench players a lot. Not to mention one injury to Pierre or Cabrera and our OF becomes a total joke. Finley, assuming he and Conine are comfortable with it, gives you an option in the OF to split time with Conine, rest Pierre and Cabrera, and it allows Conine or Cabrera to rest Choi at first or take over the base if he gets into another long slump.

 

Does the board really feel comfortable with only Cordero and Nunez being full time starters if Pierre/Cabrera/Conine/Choi get hurt? Not to mention the fact if Choi or Conine starts to slump again for several weeks in a row. Finley was born the year before Conine (not sure of the exact amount of time between them). Both guys would be perfect to split time and continue to teach Pierre and Cabrera the little things about playing the OF they may not know.

 

 

 

I really don't think we can do anything at catcher other than get another veteran back-up, like a Greg Zaun, for this year. Unless we can get Hall from Tampa, which I doubt, who do we get? Kendall at that price? Benito? Come on...

Why trade for someone that is making almost seven mil when you can just sign someone for less than a mil who can do basically the same thing except center and you don't have to lose a player to do it?
