May 30, 200422 yr WE NEED PAVS! No...re sign them all, Pavs is our 2nd most consistant man...like John Kruk said, "hes a number 2 starter in the number 4th spot...." Thats why we need him. Pavano is the man. He's actually amoung my all time favorite marlins...
May 30, 200422 yr As much as I would hate to see it, I think Pavano may be gone. First priority would be to resign Brad Penny and AJ Burnett and Pavs may be the odd man out.
May 30, 200422 yr I'm pretty sure Penny and Burnett arent free agents and are up for arbitration. I think Pavs is as good as gone. No way the team can afford Pavano especially if he continues to pitch like he has so far this season.
May 30, 200422 yr well i know aj will be back penny should be back and pavano's check isnt to much so i dont see any problem not getting any of them back
May 30, 200422 yr there is a very large group of quality FA pitchers: Odalis Perez, Russ Ortiz, Matt Morris, Brad Radke, Carl Pavano and some others i cant remember.
May 30, 200422 yr I like Pavs a lot but I think he's gone (too expensive). Maybe he will want to stay if we repeat again.
May 31, 200422 yr Carl is going to stay with the Marlins they will re-sign him Good. Let's find a way to work it out. Stadium deal on the way, attendance continues to increase, we make the post season again, only one more year of Hampton pay out......... Let's find a way to keep Pavs. :thumbup
May 31, 200422 yr Carl is going to stay with the Marlins they will re-sign him that's good to hear from ya', buddy
May 31, 200422 yr AJ and Dime will be back in all likelihood. My guess is that Pavano won't be back next year. And I don't know about the rest of baseball, but Pavano would be right at the top of my list for guys I'd like to see the White Sox make a run at.
May 31, 200422 yr Ok not sure if Penny and Burnett are FA's, but assuming they where...IMO Pav's unfortantly would be gone. He is a top quality starter with consistancy up the yingyang, but with the way Penny has been throwing (greatest early fantasy ball pickup---ever!) It would be like signing at least 2 aces. Burnett's elbow may cause him to miss out on alot of $. Assume he comes back and throws decent he may not get the uber big bucks. IMO we could afford to sign either Penny and Burnett, or Pav's and Burnett. This really breaks down into who would you rather have? Penny or Pavano. Lets just say I wouldn't be disapointed which ever one we chose I've always liked Penny even when he was just a hard thrower (went to school in Oklahoma, and just a soft place in my heart for my Oklahomies!) Both have a huge upside...just whichever you wanna choose. Although here are my thoughts. Though I love Pavano I really love to have guys that made their ML debut stay with your team...don't know just my prefernce. So I go with Penny. I know this isn't my topic nor is this on really on topic, but who and why would you choose penny or pav?
May 31, 200422 yr there is a very large group of quality FA pitchers: Odalis Perez, Russ Ortiz, Matt Morris, Brad Radke, Carl Pavano and some others i cant remember. those other guys are big names, but Pav's is the only one going up...the other arms here are aging....rapidly!
May 31, 200422 yr I think we could nab Pavs and Penny. AJ and Penny are arbitration eligible. We could sign Penny before arbitration, let AJ go to arbitration depending on his play this year (he won't cost that much), and then try to outright resign Pavano. I know it'll be hard, but if we open up negotiations in the season (quietly, of course) then we could snag one before it ends. Also, another deep run would bode well with keeping them I believe, because there is no question now which part of the team is driving the World Series Express.

May 31, 200422 yr I think if we sign Pavano to a 4-5 year contract and a lot of the money is deferred to the last 2-3 years of the contract that the FO could get this done. Once Hampton's contract comes off it's going to make resigning our players a lot easier.
May 31, 200422 yr I dont think none of our starting pitching will be gone. Well if Beinfest is stupid Enough he would let them go. Burnett is a young guy and has alot of potential still. He will probably stay for sure. I hope We dont trade or take Pavz or any of our starters away. They are our key to success.

Derek Lowe= 1 good year, last year was ok, and not doing so well now. Odalis Perez= decent, but not a #1 anywhere Matt Morris=when he ain't hurt he is good, but that's when he aint hurt. Brad Radke=haven't heard much about him this year. Kris Benson=Pittsuburg's Ryan Dempster Kevin Millwood=good sometimes horrible others. no consistancy! Russ Ortiz= Braves will resign before season out eric Milton-don't know Carl Pavano= found his groove, and his best FA on the market! could be #1 for 8 out of 10 teams. Luckily we are blessed we are 2 out of those 10 teams
