Bring up Treanor

Featured Replies

Just throwing that out there. Send Castro down to AAA and bring up Treanor. If Castro clears waivers, great, if not...oh well.

I personally would love to see Treanor up with the big club, the guy deserves a shot. He couldn't to much worse than Castro, plus it will keep the bench warm until Hammer gets called up from AA.

Somebody brought this idea up earlier and I agree. I'd bring up Willingham or Treanor for Sutton, then I would try to get something for Castro in a trade, if the FO can't then put him on waivers but I would like to see either Willingham or Treanor in the majors, just to see what they can do, before we get rid of Castro.

I agree, but I dont think you are going to get anything for Castro now. Then again, I didnt think we would get anything for Encarnacion...

I think Treanor is the best bet to get called up. He is at AAA, 28, and has played catcher for his career. Willingham still needs some seasoning at the position, and I got the feeling he is not going to be a great defensive catcher. I would like to see him get to AAA first.

Then again, I wasnt in favor of bringing up Willis last year, even though I liked him a lot when we got him (thought he wasnt ready). I also thought McKeon wouldnt make that much of a difference...come to think of it, I dont know a lot. :lol

But I did pick the Marlins to get to the playoffs and the World Series last year...

Then again, I didnt think we would get anything for Encarnacion...

let's not degrade Encarnacion here.... he has talent atleast

let's not degrade Encarnacion here.... he has talent atleast Sure, but that isnt what I am talking about. Everyone in the world KNEW we werent going to re-sign him. The Dodgers could have picked him up as a FA without giving us anything.

Now, they may have done it because other teams wanted Enc, but still - we shouldnt have gotten a thing for him but Beinfest the pirate he is got something in return.

I dont know what the FO is waiting for in calling up Treanor or Willianghan(sp) and sending Castro down. I dont think it would hurt the team too much if we lost Castro.

How would that hurt us? I've never seen anyone suck as much as Castro. Except Oliver. Let's look inside the .141 average. He has 13 hits in 92 at bats! 29 K's to only 10 walks. OBP of .233 and a clean, crisp .272 SLG%.

No one could do worse. Hell, we can hire a Marlins Mermaid and she'd do better.

I agree. As I've said (for a very long time), Castro just doesn't have what it takes to stay in the majors as a dependable player. I guess the front office doesn't want to place him on waivers because they probably feel like because he's been on the roster mostly rotting away on the bench for 3 years, they should get something for him...

I know that Matt can't possibly hit less than Ramon, and he is just as good (and probably better) defensively. In any case, the office needs to do something... ANYthing... and do it now.

For the eight hundredth time Castro can't be "sent down", he's out of waivers. They either keep him, trade him or cut him. Those are the only options.

can someone answer me this though, if another team were to pick him up off waivers they have to put him on their roster right? they can't send him to their minor league team? would he have to clear waivers for a second time?

Actually, the Yankees claimed Kevin Hooper from us on waivers and sent him to AAA. So it appears you can send a player to AAA after you claim him. Though I think it was a bit of a different situation.....Hooper wasn't out of options, he was just being taken off the 40-man roster. So I may be wrong.

if there was one player in the history of MLB that could clear waivers it would have to be Ramon Castro, i mean really, not only is he going through a horrible slump, he's unproven as an every day major league ball player, oh and don't forget the whole trial thing (and what he is on trial for) makes him about as unattractive as a player on the waiver wire could be. all he's missing is a ridiculous salary.

Even if Castro cleared waivers couldn't he refuse assignment? I think our options are basically release, trade, or watch languish.

But he would become a FA if he refused assignment.....and if any team really wanted him, they'd claim him off waivers.

Treanor. Willingham.

Does it matter? The latter is the future perofrming well in AA, the former is a career minor leaguer performing well in AAA. Both are better thn Castro.

:thumbup :notworthy . Ed Canes should pass the word on to Admin Beinfest J/k. I like the idea. The guy has a bulldog mentality and deserves a shot at the Big league level.
