Why the Marlins won't go out and get a bat?

Featured Replies

Marquis Grissom?

giants wont drop out of the west race He has hit .300 as a #3 hitter this season for the Giants and he only makes $2,125,000

Marquis Grissom?

why would the Giants trade him? Because the Giants are in the red this year no matter what they do. Payroll must be cut and Marquis is a quick $2,125,000 gone for prospects.

Oh my God!

You guys have all gone insane... :banghead

Look, let's try this again.

I NEVER said that the Marlins shouldnt try and make a deal for another bat. What I am saying is this - if you cant make a significant updgrade, then there is NO INCENTIVE to make a deal. Catalanotto a significant updgrade? No. He is a fine player, but not better than a HEALTHY Conine.

The following would be regarded as SIGNIFICANT upgrades:

Carlos Beltran

Craig Wilson

But here is the problem. You are not going to get Wilson for the same reason my suggestion of Wilkerson would never happen. WHy would a small market team want to send away a player who is outperforming their contract? In other words, why would we want to trade Cabrera? ARRGGHHH!!! :banghead

Beltran would be nice - and I dont care about giving up prospects because we have a lot of talent and can deal from a position of strength. But we are NOT going to re-sign Beltran, which means this is a one season rental. There are better options out there, but you will have to WAIT until the pretenders are seperated from the contenders. YOU DONT MAKE A DEAL NOW.

That ALL SAID, you have to go with what you have and tough it out. That means you try Conine out at the 3 for the reasons I said before.

And speaking of, I have said that we should put him on the DL because his shoulder is effecting him. In fact, that is another reason that supports the SANE belief that Conine hasnt all of a sudden lost it, but is suffering from injury and cant perform up to par.

So you can play Conine or you can sit him. If you sit him, DL him and let him rest. If you play him, put him where he will be most effective - or least detrimental. And if the latter, bat him 8th and pull him out after the 1st AB. Hell, if it is that bad, dont play him at all and give him HIS REST ON THE DL!

But again, WHO DO YOU PLAY IN LF!!!

THINK!!!! :banghead

Sweet sweet Jebus.... :lol

I'm not saying now, I still say this kind of trade should be made near the deadline.

In other words, you will have to wait to make a deal for a bat...hhmmmm...that means Conine still has to play...hmmmm....

well wouldnt the A's take on salary in that little deal of yours?

the A's do anything but take on salary

and Byrnes is a decent OBP guy, Beane wouldnt let him leave

Eh... we pay for some of Oliver's contract? It's only 'til the year is over, right? Don't all three of those guys have 1 year contracts?

And they need a second baseman. They've needed one since last year. We'll give them Easley or Castillo.

P.S. - CASTILLO PART IS A JOKE!

 Jonny,

I think in a month we either won't be in first or we won't be talking about this anymore.

:thumbup

i dont see KC trading beltran anytime soon, the longer they wait the more desperate teams will get. result - KC will milk the teams desperate to make a move for him

:thumbup I think the latter rather than the former.

put Lenny in LF, while Conine is sitting

or Aguila

:)

Now there is an idea I like - Aguila.

But that would be subscribing to my line of thinking - that we have enough talent within the system to create a solution.

Damnit! I hate being right!!! :banghead :shifty

go get tino martinez or huff

Tino got hurt tonight(pulled up lame)

and Huff is pretty close to untouchable

We don't need a bat. We can't afford one anyway. The answer is a lineup designed to get the best production out of everyone.

Your right Lowell should bat leadoff :lol J/K

Who do you move down or up? Choi doesn't make enough contact to be a 3# hole hitter. Split the combo at the top? I don't see it. :confused Thanks. You just made an excellent point. McKeon likes to stick to one lineup and only changes it to inject some life with a bench player or to reward or penalize players by promoting or dropping them in the order. Even if anything we post on these boards mean anything McKeon is unlikely to mix things up much.

However it's fun so here's mine: JP/Luiy, Niner, Lowell, Choi, Cabrera, Alex, Red/Treanor. That gives Niner, Choi and Alex some protection and pitches to hit without hurting any others much.

I also recommend we bring up Aguila. If only as a backup. Having GIDP&KNUNEZ as our 4th OF is just sad. Very very sad.

Meh Lineup should be as follows

Pierre

Castillo

Cabrera

Lowell

Choi

Gonzalez

Conine

Redmond/Treanor

Choi and Gonzalez have produced, I say we give it a shot
