June 20, 200422 yr when Willis pitches, Niner should hit 9th We have a WINNAH! Ladies and gentlemen, the craziest post of the night... :zipper Damn it ramp, told you to keep taking your medicine...
June 20, 200422 yr crazy? or will it maximize performance? Why not bat Train 3rd? True. We ARE trying to maximize peformence. I mean, with JP and Louie on base and Lowell and Cabs right after him, people will have to throw strikes and D-Train will punish them worse than Sailor Moon punishing evil.
June 20, 200422 yr Could it be that we arent trading for a bat because of the cost involved to keep our pitching staff together??? Its not going to be cheap. Pavs is a free agent, Penny will be at the end of next year which means they will probably try to work a deal with him before then. Its true, we need a bat and we need a spark plug, like pudge. Sorry but I really miss him, I think that has definately hurt us.

To get a bigtime bat it will cost them in both money and lost of players. :thumbup by the way dawg I hope Penny signs a long term deal with the club. I don't think I would have said that last year and glad to be wrong. Penny has really grown up and turn the corner. So if the Marlins aren't going to get a bat, then put Jeremy Hermida on a serious fast track. Place him in double A for a couple of weeks and another in Triple A. Something has to done...you can't waste the years of the starting staff.
June 20, 200422 yr I Say we wait till the all star break. We are still in 1st place, i know we shouldnt take it lightly, but the truth of the situation is that its still relatively early to make any bold moves. Remember, Marathon, not a sprint
June 20, 200422 yr I Say we wait till the all star break. We are still in 1st place, i know we shouldnt take it lightly, but the truth of the situation is that its still relatively early to make any bold moves. Remember, Marathon, not a sprint There you go! Someone with some sense around here. And TealShadow (EdCanes), you are right. And this is what I have been saying all along - we dont have the money to keep a big bat that we acquire because of our starting pitching. Pavs and Penny are going to cost us not to mention we will be looking to sign Beckett, Burnett soon. And all that is before Cabrera and Willis come knocking. There is going to be turnover and in the meantime, every signing you make has to be utilized. Thus, Conine's performance is essential. And you have to maximize his performance. And for those of you who only offer problems and no solutions, Ramp (Mr. Not-very-Awesome) and UberUbi (Sailor Moon's boyfriend), this issue becomes more grave because you cant just 'go out and get a bat'. You have to work with what you got. And if you really want to bat Willis 3rd, then get some cajones, make the argument and go on the record. :mischief And sorry about those de-characterizations, I was only kidding, Mr. Mildly Awesome and Sailor Moon's secretary. :beer
June 20, 200422 yr Conine is the problem right now the solution is to bat him in the 7 or 8 hole till he cant his a 95mph fastball again(which may not happen anymore) I mean, our 5 hole hitter has all over 20rbi?.... that is awful
June 20, 200422 yr Rondell White is the guy I hope we take a serious look at... but that's just my opinion. Then you could have a Conine/Choi platoon at 1st. But I don't know what Detroit's plans with him are..
June 20, 200422 yr I wouldn't deal DO because he is doing well in long relief. Choi should be given the job at first and allowed to hit against lefties.
June 20, 200422 yr 1. Pierre 2. Castillo 3. Cabrera 4. Lowell 5. White 6. Choi 7. Gonzalez 8. Redmond uuuugggghhhh, now that's a lineup
June 20, 200422 yr 1. Castillo 2. Gonzalez 3. Choi 4. Lowell 5. Cabrera 6. Conine 7. Pierre 8. Redmond/Treanor 9. Pitcher
June 20, 200422 yr 1. Castillo 2. Gonzalez 3. Choi 4. Lowell 5. Cabrera 6. Conine 7. Pierre 8. Redmond/Treanor 9. Pitcher We have the best 1-2 punch in the MLB IMO. Why would you seperate Castillo and Pierre?

Why would you seperate Castillo and Pierre? Because it allows for two 1-2 punches in the lineup. Castillo gets on base, Gonzalez can get on base and get hits. Pierre gets on base, Redmond/Treanor get on base and get hits.

If anything, you put Castillo down at the 7 because he actually has a pretty decent RISP. But again, I think that is too drastic. If Conine is injured, he needs to be on the DL. Plain and simple. But you have to replace him. If he is not, put him at the 3 and see what happens. I dont see why people are so dead set against this. Heck, if you want to put Choi in the 3, that is fine too - but that means Lowell and Cabs are going to have to slide down to 4, 5, respectively. I still dont see a reason why you cant put Conine at the 3 IF you are going to play him.
June 20, 200422 yr Because people find it easy to just say he sucks and move him as far down as possible than find a role where he can contribute.

Well if your going to do that than you should atleast switch Pierre and Castillo and put Pierre in the #1 spot and Castillo in the #7 spot.
June 20, 200422 yr No Luis is better at the top because if JP gets on base and ends up on second or third, then Luis can drive him in.

I know that, but what if the catcher gets on base and the pitcher bunts them up? Then Luis can drive in 2 runs instead of 1.
