I'm telling you management WILL NOT go out and get a "big" bat! This team will fall because of stubborness of the FO. They feel there fine with Conine( who has seen his better days) and this will be a big mistake.

 

As far as this argument about "it's only June" Well between now and July is when the cream rises to the top, the contenders seperate themselves from the pretenders...you know all those one liner. Its not a good sign if your team is struggling right now.

 

And for the Phillie comment, they get back 2/5 of there rotation back soon. Yes, they haven't been at full strength and have been just trying to hang around till now. Please don't tell that well we'll just keep beating them, its falling in our favor the last year and this year. You can't always count on that. Watch out for the Mets...(pause for peanut crowd laughter) they just got another big bat in a trade for there line-up and just got back there superstar SS. They'll make a run...believe me. And please don't tell me we've miss some of our players too, because I believe Phelps went 1-1 in Beckett two week DL stint. None of our "bats" have miss anytime.

 

What I'm saying is the Fish have been at full strengh pretty much all this time. While others have been just trying to hang around...which they have...and now there posed to make there run. WE HAVE BEEN PLAYING WITH ALL OUR BULLETS.

Why should the FO go out and get a bat?

 

Our bullpen is still suspect and there are way too many slumping bats on the line up. One above average bat isn't going to fix things. Carlos Beltran could be a huge pick-up, but I don't think that would be a wise move by our FO unless they have 12 millions a year hiding somewhere to sign him long term.

 

This team is not playing with fire, they can't come back from behind to win key games. They get sweeped at home. I'm also questioning team chemistry at this point. I would hate to see our FO go out and give up huge prospect for a 1/2 a year rental, and deplete our farm.

 

What I'm trying to say is, there are too many holes in this team right now.

 

Repeating a WS is a very hard thing to do. Motivation is not there at this time. so true especially the part about us using all our bullets...the duds have finally caught up with us..

IMO you have to go for it, this pitching staff is health and in the prime of there careers. What this team has doesn't come around very often and that's 5 stud pitcher in there prime. You have to make a run NOW. regardless of what happen next season. Will cross that bridge when we get there.

 

I have question the motivation of repeating by this team. I feel they don't believe they can do it. Which is more reason to go and get that BIG bat. Give them reason to believe.

It seems like at the end of this season, without any major changes, we will end up in 2nd place. That is satisfactory to me- anything lower than that is a disappointment, and anything higher is icing. Who would've thought that we'd have been in first place this year as long as we have been? We have been damn lucky that the Phillies and Braves have struggled thus far. Unlike others around here, I don't expect to win the World Series every year, but giving it a good shot and having a good time is well enough for me. I just want to end up respectable.

 

With that said, if we can make that major changes... get the big bat, get a new star.. we can definitely end up in first place and maybe further. This team just feels like it is missing one key ingredient to be a true contender in the long run...we need a spark.

We won't be in second, cool your jets. We WILL take this division...DO YOU HEAR ME!

I am trying to not set expectations too high, only to be disappointed and pissed off. The VERY LEAST I expect from us 2nd place. I don't think it's unreasonable.

If saying that this team won't explore moving Pavano, Armando or an Easley(free agents at season end). If they fall back by 5 or more games your living in wonderland. It was done a couple of years back with Floyd and it "will" happen again. That's what teams that fall out of it do. They reload for another run next season.

 

Again if this team stay status quo then they are going right down that path. And tough decision like getting something for those guys will come up.

 

All I've been saying for the last couple of days is that changes must be made...RIGHT NOW. If we don't this will happen. Other teams are improve and getting healthy ie the Mets and Phillies.

 

The bottomline is our offense is not good enough to keep up with those team, even with our good pitching

im gonna agree with the players....we have the talent...we just need to produce. Lowell knows the team better than i do or any of you do. He thinks that they have the talent and ability right there in the clubhouse...I do too. The pitchers have not pitched how they should (except for Pavano of course). Hopefully Burnett will keep it up, but Beckett and Willis and Penny NEED to be more consistent. I think Beckett and Penny will...Willis probably will stay inconsistent all season, but if he can throw a good game 2/3 time, I'm happy. Honestly, he is our #5 pitcher.

as for the bats, it will get better. All of these players CAN hit better, and will get it together.

Its still early.

 

Marlins have the pitching and the O will get better.

 

Just be patient.
