Mackowiak: Marlin?

Featured Replies

I heard that WQAM is talking about us trading for Rob Mackowiak. Anyone hear this as well...just trying to confirm it.

WQAM isn't the best source of info

If they are correct, I like the Name.

He knows all of the OF Positions I think, and 3B (i think).

He'd be a good bench guy or LFer.

also, he makes $400 K this year :-)

i like the idea, assuming we don't give up a lot. he's got good power, and when the rest of his lineup was hitting in April and May, he was putting up solid numbers.

That would be a useless trade.

We don't need another bench guy, or 7th hitter with a mediocre BA.

What we need is a true #3 hitter

Wouldnt even give up Castro for the guy....Not what we need.

What we need is a true #3 hitter am with you bro...

no way do we need a number 3 hitter....we need a guy who is gonna drive in 40 + runs after the allstar break....maybe conine will do it...but mackoviach is a good name....he is a good hitter with some power and would fit nicely batting behind choi and before sea bass

i agree....we don't need a #3 hitter if we get a guy who will scare pitchers at #5. not saying Mackowiak is that guy. but we have GREAT hitters on this team. we just don't give pitchers a reason to pitch to them. if they can get past #4 in this lineup, they're home free. we just need to keep them honest for one more At-Bat, and everything else will fall into place.

you betcha !!! :thumbup :thumbup

Miguel isn't a true #3 hitter?

 at this point in his career it would prob be best to bat him 5th (im thinking that is what the concern is).....but he does just fine at the number 3 spot...

that said, we just need a guy in the 6 hole who will drive in runs

Miguel isn't a true #3 hitter?

 No, Cabrera is better suited to hit 4th or 5th. He has good power, but K's way too much to hit in the 3rd spot. He also doesn't have the speed on the bases you might like to have with a #3 hitter.

Can Cabrera fill in the #3 spot...sure, but he is not ideal.

Can you imagine our line up if we could get a good #3 hitter, and move Cabrera, Lowell and Choi to the 4th, 5th and 6th spots? With Gonzalez and Redmond #7 and #8?

The addition of a good #3 hitter will improve 4 spots in our line up. Adding another #7 option does nothing.

You bat your best hitter in the lineup third. Sure, Mike can put up the same numbers as Miguel, but Miguel is clearly the better hitter.

his numbers on the year

.265/.325/.493/.818

12hr 37rbi

if we dont give up anything major, why not?

If all we are doing is looking to replace Harris or WTFNunez, then sure, why not?

thats the only way i would like this deal..but the pirates are not going to give this guy up for stiffs...

Both are FAs after this year....so we should be able to get them for prospects.

I like the guy but I dont think the Fish really need him, I would take Conine over him if it came down to it. Also right now I am really starting to like Miguel in right field, he only has to work on showing a little more hustle but his arm is a huge asset for the team.
