fine, marlins 2003, ill make my point.

why would they? I believe someone else made a point about them knowing that this was a rubuilding year, they heavily upgraded their offense this year, next year there will be a few free agent pitchers. they know thats what they need cause ponson is terrible this year. and i believe that was their only SP sign this year. They might trade someone for a good SP, the only was i see Javy leaving is if its for a SP like Carl...but we couldnt do that. Id still rather have pudge than javy. Pudge just works better with the pictchers and oh..whats the other thing about pudge...? oh yeah everyone on the team loves him, the chemistry is there....

It's true Baltimore knew coming into this season that their pitching was not good enough to get them to the playoffs. Their plan was to upgrade the offense last offseason, and after this season they have a couple more big contracts coming off the books that will allow them to go out and improve their pitching staff. They went out and got Tejada and Lopez because they thought they could contend in 2005.

"rubuilding"? Hmm...

I don't know where this rebuilding for 2005 fable comes from.

If you read what Angelos and the twins (the O's have co-GMs) had to say last winter and spring, they expected to be competitive and in contention THIS year. Last place in the East is so far from what they promised Orioles fans it's almost laughable. They were shooting for the American League wildcard, or so they said.

It's nice you'd rather have Pudge than Javy, I guess since we can't have Pudge we shouldn't go after anyone. But you could have Javy for less than what we offered Pudge last winter (if you believe what the FO has said) and while IRod is on a tear like few of us have ever seen, JLo is both affordable and a quality ballplayer that could turn this franchise's offensive woes around. As for his skillset regarding handling pitchers, I didn't hear alot of complaints from the Braves perpetual all-star staff when he was there. You make it sound like he's some bum.

Will it take starting pitching to get a Javy Lopez? Probably. But it doesn't have to be our starting pitcher. A three way deal with the Fish providing prospects to a Pittsburgh for a Benson (used for example purposes only) might make a deal for a Lopez a reality.

I'll be beyond shocked if we get Javy Lopez. He has a 3 year deal, and I don't think this team is able/willing to pay that money at the moment.

Guys sorry to break some of your hearts...javy Lopez is not going anywhere....you dont sign a guy to a contract like his to trade him the same year as you got him...yes the orioles stink but there not going to have a fire sale...

I still think the single best offensive player the Marlins could acquire is Javy Lopez.

Angelos is furious with what he got for the $123 million he spent this off-season. He's said so publicly twice in the last week. With the O's 16 1/2 out (last time I looked) in June, keeping Lopez (who was four for four last night and is batting .315 or so) seems less and less important.

Besides bringing some real power to the middle of the lineup it also shuts up the "we miss Pudge" club.

I know, I know, you all love Redmond and Treanor (and so do I) but bringing in a guy like Lopez is the right move for this team. He's a three-four-five hitter, could add alot of protection to Cabs, Lowell and Choi and make each of them better hitters.

Probably a snowball's chance in hell but I still think it's the Marlin's best move without having to break up the team.

I like the thinking, and agree it would really strengthen our line up. But also have difficulty seeing Baltimore deal him. Javy will be key part of their future, even if the rebuilding hasn't met all of their goals this year.

I think Javy can handle pitchers quite well

After all he did handle Glavine, Maddux, Smoltz for quite sometime didnt he?

who wouldnt be mad about spending that much $$$$$$ and having that win and loss record......

facts are be4 the season began most of us agreed that they would be the texas rangers of baseball..... great offense and no defense.....

what teh hell did this idiot expect they ahd no picthing wha so eva lopez was struggling horribly last year as a pitcher and even worse in winter leauge......

they have a team ERA of 5.74 i think...... baseball shouldnt be about ya team scoring more runs than the other team..... they got there offense...... next season there gonna get there picthing...... and as 4 lopez dude loves being a DH as well...... it fits em..... need somebody young and plz "NO TO SANTIAGO"

That's true Odom, I heard Javy was complaining that he was getting too much playing time at Catcher last week.

I never said I expected the O's to trade Lopez or that I expected the Marlins to land him. I'm saying he's at the top of my wish list.

As for money, as I said, his contract pays him what the Fish alledgedly offered Pudge, actually a bit less. And if there's anything working in our favor it's Angelos' temper and his ego, you never know with an owner like that if he might wake up one morning and blow the whole thing up.

I've said many times in reference to JLo that it's a longshot at best, nonetheless he's the one guy I'd like to see be a Fish.

We've made several trades with Baltimore over the years, so at least healthy lines of communication exist. It never hurts to dream........

If you had the opportunity would you deal Pavano and Sea Bass for Nomar and Timlin or Penny/Sea Bass for Nomar/Williamson?

The Sox are hurting. Nomar is not happy. The Sox defense is just about the worst in baseball and they need a change. Not that we want to lose pitching but if it could bring a bat and a reliever, would you do it?

As for this Javy discussion, he would be the perfect fit, and I could legitimately seeing the O's trade this guy. THe O's expected to contend this year with the amount of money htey spent in the offseason. They now realize they are in the rebuilding stage. If they got young pitching in a deal why would they want to keep an expensive aging catcher around

JLo? LOL, I would love to see JLo play for the Fish. Hopefuly we can get her to play in Marlin Mermaid uniform :thumbup

:whistle

Lopez would be a severe problem for this club. Not only does he cost too much money, but he couldnt play catcher everyday - nor even 5 out of 7 days. He needs the DH to get into the lineup in order to prolong his career. You put him at catcher, and you risk losing him.

I also think Angelos is a complete IDIOT for thinking - if he ever in fact said this publicly - that his team was going to contend in the AL East THIS YEAR. No way in hell - they dont have the pitching. Tampa Bay has a better future.

no they didn't they always said they were 2 to 3 years away from contending they are waiting for their pitching to mature and a young stud in the free agent market.

If they were waiting for their pitching to mature they would have never traded Bautistic for a 36 year old. :mischief2

actually their reasoning behind that move was that they think they will contend next year and wanted to shore up the pen for next year. That's why they immediately signed him for next year.

well maybe they saw something they didn't like, and are reloading to contend next year.

"I think Javy can handle pitchers quite well

Mostly true, however, Javy rarely caught Maddux. Eddie Perez always caught for Maddux.

The Orioles are not selling this year. They went after stars this year to make a point to their floundering fan base that they were over the Albert Belle misfortune, and plan to add to the pitching staff next year. The only trade rumor I've heard involves them waiting on a ridiculous offer for B.J. Ryan.
