June 30, 200422 yr say we get Batista OF looks like Miggy, Batista and JP 3b is Locked SS is the weakest but what can we do 2b is Lock 1b if we get a bat that would put Conine and Choi at 1st adn i want Choi to get in as many games as possible cuz the man is Raw and its all a learning xperince 4 em and i want Niner to stay as well...... cuz like i said Niner 8 games = 8 Rbi's the man is HOT PEOPLE!!!!!!! Catcher is the weakest if we got a premier catcher than id say all of our probs would be solved......

The hope has to be that between Conine, Choi, Bautista (if he is obtained), Cordero (when he returns) and Easley we can get two consistent bats in the lineup.
June 30, 200422 yr I really can't figure out why our offense is doing so bad Basically every position in our field besides SS is at least average or better 1B Choi (good power, low average, but high OBP) 2B Castillo (.300 hitter) 3B Lowell (no need to explain) SS Gonzalez (sucks, but good D, can't get rid of him for that reason) C Redmond/Treanor (decent bats for catchers, .270-.290 hitters) LF Conine will shape up .275-.290 hitter CF Pierre (no need to explain) RF Cabrera " " " " So really, who is sooo weak offensively besides A Gon? The team has to be slumping... The problem lies in the bullpen, I don't think we are after Arizona's bats.... We must be after Arizona's pen, and they definitely have some nice talent there too...Villafuerte, Valverde, Villareal are all pretty good set up men
June 30, 200422 yr Trading for Bautista would not be worth it, he is not enough of an upgrade over Conine to make much of a difference. I would love to get Finley on the other hand. Finley bashes right-handed pitching while Conine crushes lefthanded pitching. they would make quite a duo in leftfield.
June 30, 200422 yr (please trade billy koch) (please trade billy koch) (please trade billy koch) (please trade billy koch) (please trade billy koch) (please trade billy koch) (please trade billy koch) that's my prayer for the night. Koch will get better as the year goes on :thumbup :lol :lol :lol
June 30, 200422 yr I really can't figure out why our offense is doing so bad RISP. No team in the NL East is hitting with runners in scoring position.
June 30, 200422 yr I really can't figure out why our offense is doing so bad RISP. No team in the NL East is hitting with runners in scoring position. In that case, Finley shouldn't be much help looking at his numbers with RISP, especially since he is more of a 2 hole hitter On the other hand, Bautista might be. I'd still rather have one of their RPs Lowell, Conine and Cabrera's RISP should improve...maybe Choi too
June 30, 200422 yr Looks like Bautista has always been a better hitter with men on .... Career bases empty..... .270 runners on .278 RISP .274
June 30, 200422 yr To add on to DTrizzles stats... Bautista this year: AVG: .309 Bases empty: .288 Runners on: .336 RISP: .313 RISP 2/outs: .406

Bautista this year: AVG: .309 Bases empty: .288 Runners on: .336 RISP: .313 RISP 2/outs: .406 exactly not bad at all only problem is if he came here would he continue his success? Would he be able to bat 3rd? EDIT: Nevermind. Just checked...Looks like Danny has been hitting 3rd for the DBacks...at least recently...3 for 5 tonight Sign him up
June 30, 200422 yr ethier trade willis or put him in bull pen! all hail manziy :notworthy :whistle oh that's it. you've lost your mind. no more posting privileges. :whistle
June 30, 200422 yr I like to look at a couple of years combined more than just this year because it's kind of a small sample size. Over the last 3 years Bautista's average with runners on and in scoring position has been lower (not by a lot) but it has been lower than his average with none on. I just think you put Finley in a position where he doesn't have to play against lefties and rotate him with a guy who crushes lefties you have a legitimate #3 hitter and another big bat that we need. Don't get me wrong Bautista is a very nice ballplayer but I just think Finley would fit better, for what we are looking for.

Just checked...Looks like Danny has been hitting 3rd for the DBacks...at least recently...3 for 5 tonight Sign him up It matters more who's batting in front and behind you than the actual numerical order. RISP numbers are tricky too. Small sample size and all. And do we really need a righthanded bat? I know Pierre, Choi and Cabrera aren't hitting lefties and all, but we're sorely lacking lefthanded pop off the bench. WTFNUNEZ hits better from the right side and Lenny Harris just can't hit.
June 30, 200422 yr Some more info: Finley is .346 vs RHP (.227 vs. LHP) and Conine is .372 vs LHP (.255 vs RHP)... so that has the chance of being a nice platoon. Bautista, on the other hand, is batting .346 vs LHP and .294 vs RHP
June 30, 200422 yr Some more info: Finley is .346 vs RHP and Conine is .372 vs LHP... so that has the chance of being a nice platoon. Batista, on the other hand, is batting .346 vs LHP and .294 vs RHP and when we get Cordero back we'll have a great lineup for both right and left handed pitching. I know Cordero was struggling before he got hurt, but for his career he has crushed left handed pitching. I think the injury had a lot to do with his struggles.
June 30, 200422 yr Cordero was doing well before his injury. He just got a bad rap because he was playing in place of Niner and Choi.
June 30, 200422 yr I dont see any good options mentioned in this thread other than Texiera. And that wont be a good fit for us because we already have our corners set. If he could play some LF... I dont think Bautista is that much of an upgrade at all over Conine. If you bat Conine 3rd, he will put up good numbers and help this offense out. He would hit in front of Lowell and Cabs - and would get something to hit. Not to mention that JP and Castillo getting on base opens up the defense. I dont see a reason for us to make a deal here unless we are going to get remarkably better. And since we dont have the money, it aint happening.
June 30, 200422 yr Cordero was doing well before his injury. He just got a bad rap because he was playing in place of Niner and Choi. Well, I don't think a .213 average with only 1 homer is going to cut it. He's a lot better than that.
June 30, 200422 yr i just think that we need a veteran catcher (awesome if we got santiago from kc) and another strong reliable huy in the pen and we are set. dont touch anything else.....we are not getting any of those guys like finley or D.B. or frank whatever his last name is spelled like. so forget about it...dont need em

I would normally agree with you...but this guy is having an amazing season The good numbers he is producing do not seem to be inflated by a hot start....the numbers look better and better This guy seems like he would fit well in the 3rd spot...but you are right, Niner belongs there I don't think it really matters though, this team has a good offense and is slumping major Look for Pierre and Castillol to get on base more at the same time and this club will start moving We need bullpen help more than we need a bat, and Arizona has some nice talent
June 30, 200422 yr Put D-Train in the pen as the 8th inning guy and get Livan Hernandez back and we're golden!
June 30, 200422 yr what's up with this guy Humberto Quintero on the Padres? he's the AAA catcher who they called up when Ramon Hernandez went on the DL, and he has been on FIRE. he's hitting something like 9-18 with a homer since being called up, and he's apparently got a great arm. now, they likely aren't looking to give away a catching prospect for nothing, but it does appear that when Ramon comes back, they might have some catching to spare. maybe we can look into that? just riffin' :cool
June 30, 200422 yr We've got catchers. Redmond, Treanor, Castro (DL), Willingham (AA). Willingham is a stud and there's no reason to trade for a catching prospect. I can't say I share much enthusiasm for any of Arizona's relievers. All are either too old, too rich or just bad. PA Fish Fan, where did you here Livan was available? I'd love to bring him back, however I thought he signed a new long-term deal and Minaya plans to keep a solid team together for wherever the Expos play next season.
