Marlins trying to salvage split

Florida (41-37) at Atlanta (37-40), 7:35 p.m. ET

By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com

When it rains, it pours on the Marlins.

After dropping two of three from the Braves, the Marlins seek to salvage a series split in the four-game set on Thursday night at Turner Field.

A 75-minute rain delay on Wednesday caused the Marlins to tax their bullpen, which logged eight innings in Wednesday's 9-6 loss.

Michael Tejera makes his second start since being called up from Triple-A Albuquerque. Both of Tejera's starts have been in this seven-game road trip.

The Marlins are now 2-4 on the swing through Tampa Bay and Atlanta.

Mike Lowell and Miguel Cabrera have each homered on successive games. Lowell extended his hitting streak to eight games.

  • Juan Pierre went 0-for-5 Wednesday and he is 4-for-24 (.167) on the road trip.
  • J.D. Drew had two homers on Wednesday night and is now hitting .424 (14-for-33) with four home runs against the Marlins this year.
  • Andruw Jones has two hits, including a homer, in six career at-bats against Tejera.
  • Miguel Cabrera has five hits, including two homers, in 13 career at-bats against Ortiz.

"I was a little quick today out of my delivery. I didn't feel as free and easy as I normally feel. I put a little more effort that I had."-- A.J. Burnett on his performance

"I just want to contribute any way possible. This is a dream come true." -- Atlanta southpaw Sam McConnell, a lifelong Braves fan, who earned his first Major League victory in Wednesday night's win

DT's Prediction: Just win dammit...

We have to score early. The BRaves bullpen kills us and let's hope we don't have to use our bullpen. But that willl be highly unlikely.

Fish win 5-2.

Well we've got Tejera today . . .

Very though day for the Fish. Tejera better show up

we need this win more than my cousin needs a kidney.

Dammit, just win this game! I hate DL Drew....we should belt him with a fastball and knock him out early. It is hateful, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
