He had 281 at-bats with the Fish, and he drove in 40 runs. 15 of those were himself, on homers. that leaves 25 times there was a guy on base and he brought them home, in 281 ABs. There's no reason to get sentimental about losing him, and to suggest that Choi is a better hitter than Lo Duca b/c his OPS is higher is preposterous. Is Melvin Mora (OPS .998) a better hitter than Ichiro Suzuki (OPS .889)?

But don't you think it's the job of these baseball professionals to take the talent that is given to them and turn the team into a winner? The Cubs had other options, although worse, in Randall Simon and Eric Karros that veteran-loving Dusty Baker could use. The Marlins are in a special situation, needing to take on low-salary projects and youngsters, but also to stay competitive. I just don't see why a guy who makes outs less than anyone else on the team (and has good lefthanded pop, decent speed, a good frame, and plays good defense) is so expendable. Also Mora contributes more than Ichiro, LoDuca and Choi because he is a good hitter that is allowed to hit many important situations. Same for LoDuca, who for a regular is an average batter, above-average for his position. Ichiro could be every bit of a hitter as Mora if he wasn't leading off and collecting most of his hits with no one on base.

September 7, 200422 yr He doesn't seem happy there... 543797[/snapback] Choi is very happy in LA, he lives in Little Korea and they've made him feel very at home because there is a large Korean community, he's practically a god to them lol. I don't miss Choi not being in the lineup anymore, but I do miss just all of the "extras" that went along with him, he was probably the most down to earth person on the entire team and once of the nicest too. I was really sad to see him go but I certainly don't miss his bat.
