Ramp's Crazy Idea....

Featured Replies

Rafael Palmeiro? No chance, why would he come here. He wants to finish his career over there with the Rangers. We wont get him and we are giving the D.Lee, they will never want him with the numbers he has put in his 2nd straight year. No chance....

what we need is more wins, we dont need any stunts liek this

stunt?

this can only help the team

We have recently been playing against the chumps and slobs of the various divisions. The games leading up to the ASB will be telling for this team. Can we compete with the upper echelon teams? It will decide the fate of Lowell, Lee, Castillo, and Penny. I hope we can come out on top.

I DO agree with that...

Danny, this is not a stunt. Rafi is a good player and can provide offense. He will be an improvement to us in a playoff run offensively and he isn't that bad defensively.

Isn't that bad? He did win 4 gold-gloves...

Plus, it would most definately bring attendance up. Plus, once we had Raffy lure some fans out to the park, they would all start to discover the team IS winning, and they would start to CONSISTANTLY come out...

Do you actually have any idea if Raffy has more star power then Pudge? I can only think of one statistic to use and thats votes for the AS game. Pudge has had an average season at best so far, but leads catchers in voting. Why? Because he is one the most widely known names across both leagues.

And Pudge is not and never will be a bigger name than Rafiel Palmeiro.

Does somebody have my tissues because Tears are coming out of my eye's from all that laughter?! :p

Pudge is by far The Bigger name. Pudge has a substancial margin of over Rafi in AS voting and Rafi is in a bigger market.

Pudge also is known over The League as A Great Humanitarian.

So Please don't ever make that arguement that he is somehow bigger that Pudge.

D-Lee would be a kid in a candy store at Arlington.

And it isn't Raffy's schoice whether he goes or stays. The Rangers can do as they please with him. And like Pudge, i don't tihnk he would mind playing in his home town...

He does not have a no trade clause so it's not his choice. He is a local son. He has left Texas before to go to Baltimore and returned. They want the pitching Nunez would offer and to clean out payroll $$$$. $1.15 million saved would be nice for them right now.

Another thought on D Lee for this coming road trip...He will bust out in a big way and be a leading offensive threat for us. How do I know this? He may be in a mini-slump now, but all of us saw the multitude of near miss homeruns that will most certainly be a few homers in these other parks.

Do you actually have any idea if Raffy has more star power then Pudge?

The point isn't how much star power he has. When the title in the news paper says, "Marlins get 500 HR club member through trade" than people are gonna come out.

But that is not my sole point. My point is, the team is winning right now. Once a guy like Raffy brings a lot more fans out for at least a week, it would draw attention to those fans that the team is winning. Than, they would consistantly come to the park not to see Raffy, because he doesn't have that kind of star power, but they will now come out to see the team win. Thia trade would just be to draw attention for a little bit to how well the team is doing. Once they catch onto that, they will keep coming.

We might just have to agree to disagree here because you give far more faith in the local fan in Miami then I do. They want winning and thats it. Period.

you are aware that after willis's 1 hitter, there wasnt a great increase in attendance

I think the anounced attendance at his start after that was 17,000, but it was that low because it was raining everywhere, which prevented people from coming out. And that crowd may have only been 17,000, but man were they loud and enthusiastic...

I am expecting BIG attendance at his next start, at home against Atlanta. We had two 24,000+ crowds at a series against them earlier this year, and I was at both games. I would expect something like that, especially if we're over . 500, in at that game...

Everyone thought that the Dodgers and Giants moving out west was crazy. Evryone thought the Wildcard, 5 year old expansion Marlins winning the World Series was crazy. This might be crazy enough to work. It is not a big risk and he is not bad defensively at 1B with the Gold Gloves. Lee doesn't have a gold glove right?

All-Star Votes for Pudge vs. Piazza, Lopez, Benito (Pudge is most popular catcher ever!)

All-Star Votes for 1B are Rafi vs. Giambi vs. Delgado vs. Olerud vs. Sweeny. Much more difficult competition considering his market (Texas) vs. Delgado's HR buzz and Giambi being in NY

And Pudge is not and never will be a bigger name than Rafiel Palmeiro.

No he isnt. Pudge is the bigger name. Pudge has more attention but not right now sincehe is doing bad and Rafi got 500....

I love Raffy's BB/K ratios, but Derrek has probably the best patience on the team. I just would rather stick it out with Lee knowing he's going to break out on this road trip and usually has a strong 2nd half.

We might just have to agree to disagree here because you give far more faith in the local fan in Miami then I do. They want winning and thats it. Period.

I think we are somewhat agreeing.

They will at first, maybe for a week or so, come out to see Raffy. After that, if the team was losing, than the attendance may go back to normal. BUT, because we are winning, the fans that went to those games will realize that we aren't losing, but we are really winning. Therefore, because Raffy had drawn them out those games and made them notice we were winning, they would KEEP comming.

They would start to go for a few games to see Raffy, but would keep going because the team is winning.

Pudge has more attention but not right now sincehe is doing bad and Rafi got 500....

That's the point. Because he got so much attention, if he was traded here, imagine how much more it would draw...

You also might be exaggerating the upgrade of Raffy over D Lee. If you switch those two guys and have Raffy hitting in PPS he might have 11HR's, but put Lee in Arlington and he has 20HRs. Batting averages are nearly similar and Lee plays phenominal defense. Raffy might be a slight upgrade if you factor in experience and plate discipline, but the bottom line is will he put us over the top? No. We need one or two more power arms in the bullpen. I think the pen is mostly adequate, but lacks the stuff to close out games on a consistant basis. Other then that almost all the other positions are fine if Cabs produces in LF.

Note that Raffy didn't hit 30 homers until his 8th season ;)

DLee wont be here next season anyway...

and Raffy is a pull hitter, and would manage to do fine in the pro

Well, D-Lee would no doubt perform better at Arlington than he does here, which might persuade them to make the deal. because Raffy is a clear pull hitter, he can probably put it out of the Pro no prob right down the line.

Plus, Raffy is a lefty. The big threat we lack. Raffy usually bats much higher than Lee and can hit the gaps at the pro for doubles better than he could at Arlington. Raffy walks more, K's less, is more clutch, and brings more fans out. We are going to trade Lee anyway, so why not get a HOFer out of it instead of a prospect?

Raffy might not be able to put us over the top, but damn close to it. He brings everything we need to the table offensively, and star power wise. if the pitching keeps pitching the way it has been, than Palmeiro could very possibly be exactly what we need.
