his stats are pretty sad since the trade....0 homers; 5 rbi's and a .154 BA

not starting lately either

Even though it has gotten worse since the trade, he hasnt been the same since April really.

April: .295, 8 HR, 18 RBI

Since (4 months): .244, 7 HR, 27 RBI

no! it was a horrible trade! choi was going to hit 80 homers and have an OBP of .700 if he stayed in florida.

and loduca cant hit in the second half.

eat me naysayers of the trade, i trusted in beinfest from the second i heard the first rumor.

chois being misused and hes in the wrong park...

hes not going to succeed over there

He's hasn't been gioven any chance to start out in LA.

His isolated patience (OBP-AVG) has remained steay all year. You have to figure once he is given a regular role he could contribute and bump that average and slugging percentage back up.

Choi is nothing special.

Good luck to Choi. Lets leave the trade alone. Beinfest has already proven himself many times over.

The Dodgers mgmt would never admit they made a huge error by making this trade (and not because Penny is injured) but if the opportunity arose of the Marlins to pick up Choi, I would hope they do so.

Regardless of our successes last season and this, we need an inexpensive left-handed power hitter. If Encarnacion can find a home here after being exiled, Choi could too.

Don't underestimate Choi's work ethic. He'll be a better player next season than this and we probably won't see what he's really capable of for another year or two.

good for you...you're a better Marlins fan than the rest

Derek Lee is having yet another quality year in Chicago....

It's pretty obvious what happened in the Choi deal - the Dodgers thought they had an angle on Randy Johnson, they needed the Marlins' prospects and Penny to make it happen, so they blinked, took a chance on a deal that was lopsided towards us, but gave them what they needed to get The Big Unit. The minute the Unit deal fell through, this trade became a bad trade for the Dodgers. Also remember - at the time they dealt Lo Duca to us, they thought had a Charles Johnson deal in place, but he rejected it. So they thought they were trading Mota, Lo Duca, Encarnacion + prospects for RJ, CJ, Finley, and Choi. In that scenario, Choi is simply a toss-in, his performance would have been irrelevant to the future of the team this year. instead, they got jobbed, and the trade became evaulated simply by the performance of Choi and Penny. and based on that criteria, this is a terrible deal for the Dodgers.

guys like Rob Neyer and Olney and the rest of the ESPN chumps would argue that the ends justify the means, and therefore the fact that the Dodgers have kept winning since the trade means this was not the horrible deal that everyone sees that is is (for Neyer, it's b/c DePodesta is his buddy) But just b/c you can afford to make a bad deal doesn't mean it was smart to make it.

Choi in Florida was great. He was a great player and he is in the wrong park. hed need to improve those stats, but i know that with help, he could.

He has, but for a low payroll team, getting rid of him was easily the best option.

Not true.

The new owner of the Dodgers does not have a lot of money. The conclusion of the sale from FOX to Frank McCourt was delayed months for McCourt to rework the financing. He hired DePodesta to use the Moneyball approach to get the most bang for buck. Choi, who in his one attempt at a full-time role (with the Marlins in the first half) ranked above-average offensively and defensively at his position, gives them a solid ballplayer at a cheap price for years to come. That's why DePodesta sought after Choi, and why he wanted send Encarnacion and his contract out of town.

That's one reason why I thought it was a bad trade for the Marlins. Here was the Dodgers, one of the most recognized sports franchises in the world, making a trade to get better and cut costs. While the Marlins, who operate on a small budget and receive little ballpark revenue from Wayne Huizenga, took on bad contracts and got rid of a player outperforming his contract.

However if it gets us into the playoffs it was worth it.
