Guest Moneyball
From Inside Baseball by Albert Chen SI Pavano is eligible for free agency after this season, and he could join Martinez, Kevin Millwood and Matt Morris as the most-sought-after starters on the market next winter. But the easy-going Pavano says he'd like to stay in South Florida, even if the Marlins aren't able to offer as much money as other teams. "Money doesn't buy happiness," he said. " It doesn't take away problems, doesn't take away what you have to deal with and how you're going to get yourself ready. My biggest thing is the respect I have for this organization." Shots at Pudge? The more I hear him talk the more I like him. If he does stay with us it will prove what an honorable man he is.
FreshFish
I don't see where are the shots at Pudge. He may decide to go against 99.99% of the pack in pro-sports. If he do so, he will be one of my biggest heros

RockyMountainMarlin
Not a shot at pudge, just further proof PAVANO FRICKIN ROCKS!
MarlinsMY
I don't think that Pavano's comments were about Pudge, but more about the possibility of being approached with a bigger contract from another team. Hopefully, if that happens, he will do as he says and go with the Marlins.
BaseballMom
I also read something like this in the Sun-Sentinel a while back. I sure hope he holds true to this...... I agree with you guys.....he will be my hero and I will have much respect for him if he stays. Hope all of you are getting back to normalcy after these hurricanes!! Sick of living in my tomb (with the shutters up)!!
snilram
I doubt he would turn down added millions just to make a statement to Pudge. He meant what he said because he is LOYAL and a GOOD PERSON and loves SOUTH FLORIDA and loves THE MARLINS. He's found his happiness. So why go for bigger bucks when it takes you away from your happy situation?
MikeyFan
He's found his happiness. So why go for bigger bucks when it takes you away from your happy situation? 557434[/snapback] Plus, who knows if he would be as effective somewhere else? Its just like Benitez. Some people dont work well under pressure, and he's found comfort here. Theres no pressure in Florida. Most of the teams that are going to want to get him are in places where their teams are under pressure to perform well (Yankees). I'm pretty sure he's going to stay with us....and if he does...Pavano = :notworthy
Guest Fritz
It's cheaper to live in Miami than New York anyway.
Marlins
"Money dosen't buy happiness"...I say that a lot also. And I'm glad he said that. I hope a lot of Marlin players stay on the Marlins even if they don't get as much money as they could have got had they gone with another team. I hope he stays for a cheap price. Marlins04
wow talk about anti-pudge, man i wish pudge would have known, i love lo duca, he has more heart, but pudge is the man. dont get me wrong i hate pudge for wat he did, but so many memories. now if we get to the playoffs, lo duca is the man, cause he led us to it. phoenix
I didn't read Pudge into that quote either. Whether he meant it intentionally or it's something we're reading into it, let's wait and see. Many ball players who make squat now say that money doesn't matter until they're offered huge contracts. That's what separates the men from the boys. The old 'put your money where your mouth is' stuff.

jonnylons
I really think Carl is going to stick around. He does genuinely have a lot of respect for this organization. Dont forget, they made that deal with Montreal and resurrected Pavano's career by believing in him. Loria has expressed his admiration for Pavano's ability. I think there really is a mutual respect that wont diminish. Also, Pavs is wise enough to notice that staying where you are happy is more important than anything else. Florida may not be able to give him as much money as NY, but it costs a lot less to live in Florida and there is no state income tax. Besides, when you got a staff with Beckett, Burnett, and Willis and a lot of young pitching talent coming up, why wouldnt you want to be here? I also think Benitez is going to be a lot more likely to stay than some think. I think he too feels comfortable here. There is a team culture here in Florida that isnt easily replicated elsewhere. I hope they keep it going. These guys actually love playing together and even the outsiders that come in blend in very well. It is infectious. flasportsfan88
I remember an article in the Post about Carl Pavano being very low key, not a guy that likes to be in the lime-light as much as others( :mischief2 Milano breakup?) He doesnt seem likle the kind of guywho would go somewhere he didn't want to go for money. And guys if the Marlins make it big in the playoffs again, he's almost a lock. adio305
u really think if the yanks want him the boss isent gonna make sum huge deal to make him go if he over pays back up 3rd basemen imagine what he'll do to a possible cy young winner, that being siad pav is the man i cant really hate him for leaveing for more money its only human to wanna make sure ur family is liveing good for years to come, but i hope he stays. jonnylons
I dont think for a second if the Boss offers enough money that Pavs would stay. But I also dont think the Boss is going to make that offer and I also dont think that Pavs wants to play for the Yanks.
MarlinsChik305
Pavs is awsome. Great guy. may b a shot at pudge, that bastard. Itd b great if we have Pavs next year, hes a great pitcher.
PSLMARLIN
If Scott Boras is his agent we wont be seeing Pavs next year, that guy loves money more than Honor .
Wild Card
Like I said earlier, it won't be about the money with Pavano, it'll be the length of the deal that makes or breaks everything. If the Yankees or Red Sox offer him four years and we offer him two, I wouldn't blame him for leaving. I just hope he pulls a Mike Lowell and not a Pudge. Guest Juanky
One note it might also be about: The Defense St. Louis is the only defense that can hold a candle to ours. Pavs makes his living by pitching the ball down, getting nice ground balls, double plays, and weak pops. He has matured to know that if he lets this defense and this park work to his advantage, the days he can't strike everyone out he can still throw shutout ball. If he leaves to somewhere else, he likely won't be as successful just because of the immediate stepdown there would be anywhere but in St. Louis. Since they don't have the money, me thinks he stays. Ang
Carl's got a good head man, and if he stays I love him forever. I think he will because he already wanted to move down to Miami. We love Pav :notworthy
