July 2, 200322 yr from the Palm Beach Post.... The Marlins are talking to the Reds about a deal that would send All-Star second baseman Luis Castillo and right-hander Brad Penny to Cincinnati, according to a major-league source. It was not clear who the Reds would send to Florida, but names thought to be considered include first baseman Adam Dunn and reliever Scott Sullivan. A source said the Marlins, whose bullpen has been hit by injuries, want pitching in return. This proposed deal's been tossed around a bit already, but Sullivan is another name to throw in there. One of those crafty veterans that might shore up the bullpen. He's struggled a little lately, but has been reliable for the Reds for years and can still eat up innings out of the pen when needed. Plus he makes about the same as Penny so it would make it easier for the Reds. Maybe Gabe White instead? Probably contingent on Cincy being able to sign Luis to a contract... I still haven't made up my mind on Penny though.
July 2, 200322 yr If there were this type of Deal tho it would likely be a result of a trade involving D Lee. or a Move to move Cabs down. I would do it tho. Add another Arm to the pen and one of the better young Powe Hitters in Baseball. Our Hitting Coach can help that average abit to...
July 2, 200322 yr i cant imagine getting Dunn for that cheap...... and who would play 2nd? Hooper? Valdez? would we then trade for one?
July 2, 200322 yr Most likely we would put Dunn at 1B, keep Cabs in LF and trade lee for MORE pitching. BUT, there is always the possibility of trading Dunn instead of Lee for pitching, seeing that Dunn is worth more, but plays bad D, is only batting . 210 and would be a lower hitting with a little more power worse defensive K' a lot doesn't walk version af Lee.

Trade Dereck for some pitching hell yeah....

Dunn will be cheaper for a while and worth keeping in the roster see how keeps developing..I wonder how a cange of scenery can help out Dunn.... :mischief2
July 2, 200322 yr We would Probably Trade D. Lee for some Bullpen Help and a 2b. or just bullpen help
July 2, 200322 yr Author i cant imagine getting Dunn for that cheap...... and who would play 2nd? Hooper? Valdez? would we then trade for one? probably then turn around and trade Lee for pitching and a 2B. Maybe the Atlanta deal for Jason Marquis and Mark DeRosa. You'd have to clear a spot for Dunn either way, in the outfield or at 1B. Then put Cabrera in the other spot. Pierre Alex Encarnacion Lowell Dunn Cabrera Castro DeRosa Beckett, Willis, Redman, Marquis, Pavano, Burnett still in the rotation mix.
July 2, 200322 yr A change to PPS would probably hurt his offense, but maybe not seeing that he's a pure pull hiter. Plus, the personality fits with Spooney and AJ...lol

July 2, 200322 yr No you're right... But because he is a pull hitter, the distance won't really mean much if its down the line...
July 2, 200322 yr he is a lefty and he is one player that will have no problems with the fences.... he hits "no doubters" and he walks alot.... i dont know about this year, but last year he walked 100+ i believe
July 2, 200322 yr That would be a good trade since Luis will be a free agent this season. Penny has had up and down starts and is always unpredictable. Dunn could be the lefty we need with pop he and mike lowell would be good suited in the 3rd an 4th slot of the lineup. Dunn has like 23 Homers already and produces alot even though his Average is very poor. Sullivan i think has beenthe reds best reliever and has the stuff to be a set up man with us or something. He would be perfect for us since we need bullpen help. Lets see if the Marlins want to do this deal and are Dumb if they reject it.
July 2, 200322 yr he's a righty, but bats lefty. he's OBP is .350 so i wouldn't worry much about his avg.
July 2, 200322 yr dunn would have no problem hitting homers at the Pro, like floyd, even more so since floyd hit a lot of line homers, dunn would be a great addition and is exactly what we want in a trade for luis, along with sullivan, this is a great deal for us!, how legit is this rumor???
July 2, 200322 yr you throw around the word dumb and the Marlins FO alot dont you? The Reds FO would be dumb to offer this deal. Why would you give up a young power hitting lefty with a sky high ceiling and an iron man pitcher for a good, albeit struggling pitcher and a FA to be 2nd baseman? I like Castillo, but he doesnt have Dunn potential. Dunn has almost the exact same numbers as McGwire in his early career. If the Reds traded for Dunn, I would expect nothing short of Wood, Zito or Colon material. Sullivan, I could live without if it meant better starting pitching.
July 2, 200322 yr No doubt Dunn would see better pitches with Mike Lowell hitting behind him. I would do Penny for Dunn, I would not do Castillo and Penny for Sullivan and Dunn. As for the Lee for DeRosa and Marquis trade, it's telling that with Byrd out for the year the Braves have not brought Jason Marquis back up. After last night's debacale (from the Braves standpoint) it's obvious their bullpen is thin thin thin and yet no Marquis. Says to me these are not guys we should be interested in.
July 2, 200322 yr and who would play 2nd? Hooper? Valdez? would we then trade for one? Beinfest said hooper will be playing second if they trade luis....i read it in an article.

July 2, 200322 yr Author he's a righty, but bats lefty. he's OBP is .350 so i wouldn't worry much about his avg. Dunn gets tons of K's and tons of walks. It would be like Derek Lee never left!
