I don't see where we can add a big stick except in replacing Encarnacion... not an easy $ task (and he may be due for an outstanding or at least credible season.) And we're going to lose Benitez and Mota is a "marginal" Closer for a Play-Off Contender. Thus, unless we get a helluva deal on a power-hitting right fielder, I hope we concentrate on Pitching. Re-sign Pavano, buy a proven 5th Starter and a proven middle-reliever. (Amazing how many pitchers we have given up who have become solid Relievers for other teams.) We have to stop the nonsense of experimenting with minor-league pitchers in the middle of the Season. Hopefully, one or two of them will dazzle us in Spring Training. I'd like to keep LoDuca, but not at the expense of our Pitching Staff.
October 30, 200421 yr I think Encarnacion can have a big year, but it seems like everyone has been saying that for years. If we can replace him, somehow, with a left handed power hitting rightfielder (not Jeromy Burnitz), that's the way to go. As for Lo Duca, he needs to stay. He was worn out by the end of this season. Everyone will see what an impact player he will be when he's fresh next season. The trick will be keeping him fresh. They need to give him a few days off and even some days at 1st base or in the OF.

He has pretty good power and terrific speed. He has been able to cut down on his strike outs and he plays great D in RF. I dont see a real reason to deal him because we arent going to get someone better for the same price. At least, not without paying with prospects.

Only the Dodgers (and now the Marlins) are dumb enough to pay $3.5 - 4.5 million for an OF that has trouble breaking a .300 OBP. Compare LoDuca's offensive production from '02-'04 to guys like Damian Miller, John Flaherty, Todd Greene, and Doug Mirabelli; and try to justify spending approx. $5 million on LoDuca, when Mirabelli made $825k in '04, Flaherty made $775K, Greene got $550K, and Miller got paid (and many say overpaid) $3 million.

November 1, 200421 yr Unless we package him with the rights to a major league player (LoDuca, Mota, Beckett) or a quality prospect (ie, no Ramon Castros, Abe Nunezes, Trevor Hutchisons, Eliezer Alfonzos) Encarnacion can't be traded. No one wants an injured player. No one wants a .230/.290/.400 corner outfielder at $4.5MM. I hope he has Abe Nunez spring training and the FO is smart enough to let him go.

Dellucci would be a solid pick-up strictly as an option off the bench. Grieve would be better as a guy who could alternate starting between 1B and LF. I don't care how much better Encarnacion's defense is, Cabrera should be moved back to RF to give the team more options as far as rotating 1B and LFs.
