November 1, 200421 yr Anyone know what the deal with Travis Lee is? He played 7 games with the Yankees and was out for the year with shoulder surgery.

Migt be worthwhile to see if we can get him cheap. A lefty 1b we can platoon with Niner.

Well more than that - Travis Lee just isn't very good. He gives you no defensive flexibility, and doesn't hit all that well for a 1B.

November 1, 200421 yr but you actually think that Ben Grieve is a decent OF I never said that. But, at least, Ben Grieve can play LF for a few games here and there without killing you. Travis Lee hasn't even played a half season in the OF for his career.
November 1, 200421 yr I think he was talking about a Travis Lee ... platoon with Conine (1st/LF) and Ben Grieve is horrible offensively
November 1, 200421 yr I think he was talking about a Travis Lee ... platoon with Conine (1st/LF) and Ben Grieve is horrible offensively 605697 If Grieve is horrible offensively what does that make Enc? :mischief2 Grieve would be a significant upgrade offensively to Enc.
November 1, 200421 yr I think he was talking about a Travis Lee ... platoon with Conine (1st/LF) Unless you're talking about just having Conine platoon with Lee at 1B, I don't see how Travis Lee fits the "LF" part of that statement. Also, if you compare their 3-year splits, Lee doesn't hit righties any better than Conine.
November 1, 200421 yr since Ben Grieve left the A's he's been complete CRAP what part of that dont you people understand
November 1, 200421 yr since Ben Grieve left the A's he's been complete CRAP what part of that dont you people understand 605723 It's true that Grieve hasn't been the same since he left the A's but he's still maintained his uncanny ability to get on base. While his power is unimpressive, he still gets more extra base hits than Enc.
November 1, 200421 yr since Ben Grieve left the A's he's been complete CRAP what part of that dont you people understand I understand what you're saying, it just doesn't jibe with reality. Farmer Fran just broke it down for you.
November 1, 200421 yr whatever ... while Grieve gives you more XBH ... Enc gives you better defense and speed ... plus a bit more power BUT I understand all your points ... although you are both overstimating Grieve
November 2, 200421 yr I think if Enc was healthy, and secure with his job on one team for a whole season (remember, he is playing in his final year of his current contract, I believe) he can produce.? He has pretty good power and terrific speed.? He has been able to cut down on his strike outs and he plays great D in RF.? I donta real reason to deal him because we arent going to get someone better for the same price.? At least, not without paying with prospects. 604384 The wHole reason we wanna trade him is because of his big 4.45 milion dollar deal so if we can get a few prospects and a decent outfiealder I will be happy
November 2, 200421 yr whatever ... while Grieve gives you more XBH ... Enc gives you better defense and speed ... plus a bit more power BUT I understand all your points ... although you are both overstimating Grieve 605757 I agree...people don't realize that having another guy that is decent at getting on base (and not good and definitely not great by any stretch of the imagination) is just making our biggest offensive weakness all that much glaring if that guy can't hit for power. Grieve has been horrible since Oakland, strikes out a ton, has no power...he brings absolutely nothing to the table... You want to put him in the lineup and then cross your fingers that 1/3 of our lineup can hit a total of 12 homers? I like Dellucci, he might not turn out to be great but atleast he has potential to help this team in the area it needs help most and cheaply at that.
November 2, 200421 yr "...Cabrera should be moved back to RF..." OMG  lololololol  605648

The man will be 32 years old next year. The biggest reason he had 17 homers this year was that he played at one of the most hitter-friendly parks in the league. Even with the 17 homers his Slugging % was still unimpressive. Dellucci doesn't have any more power than Grieve does.
November 2, 200421 yr Delluci never had the chance to start (d'backs, yanks, texas) Grieve had plenty and wasted them all
November 2, 200421 yr "...Cabrera should be moved back to RF..." OMG  lololololol  605648 Cabrera isn't much better in left than he was in right. Sure he made many more dumb plays in right, but he also got to balls better in right. It may be a sample size error, but Fish Fry has a good point. If you use Cabrera in right, you wouldn't have to worry about Grieve, Dellucci, Conine or player X's arm. Rightfielders record the fewest outs on a team making it the perfect spot for a fool with an arm. Let's not just limit ourselves to Grieve and Dellucci. You could sign one of those two (or Hollandsworth or Garcia?) plus a lefty 1B (Olerud, Lee, Clark?) and have Conine split time between the two slots. With Willingham and Aguila also pressing for time. None are spectacular but when used together in the right roles would atleast provide average production from each position and give some reliable options off the bench.
November 2, 200421 yr Delluci never had the chance to start (d'backs, yanks, texas) 606107 There's a reason he's been bounced between AAA and the majors his whole career. Grieve has some very nice career #'s so I don't know what you are talking about. Not to mention he's 3 years younger than Dellucci.

He was seemingly incapable of getting a good jump on the ball, he looked like Bambi in the headlights when the ball was hit to him or worse to his right, it was nothing short of pathetic watching him out there. At least in left he can be adequate, he seems to see the ball better and with less territory to cover can make a usual plays one expects from a ML caliber left fielder. Moving him back to right is nothing short of a fools errand.

The team's biggest offensive weakness is not being able to get on base. I don't see how you can't seem to grasp that. Hitting for power doesn't matter when you're tagging a bunch of solo shots. You say Grieve is "absolutely horrible" but think Dellucci has the potential to help this team in the power category? Do you even bother to look at the numbers before you post this stuff? Here are Grieve's slugging %s over the past 4 years - .387/.432/.345/.424 Here's the same for Dellucci - .479/.402/.352/.441 Not much diffence is there? This also isn't taking into account that Dellucci has played in some pretty hitter-friendly parks over that time (the BOB in Arizona and The Ballpark at Arlington a.k.a. Coors East) while Grieve has played in fair parks (Tropicana field) or pitcher's parks (The Space Vulva in Milwaukee and Wrigley).

As a 3rd baseman, he has a left-side orientation. That's why he was more comfortable in left. And Conine, who did well in LF produced more when he was put back on 1B, his natural position. Bottom-Line: Keep Encarnacion (at least through Spring Training tests.) Put every penny into Pitching (and, hopefully, keeping LoDuca.)

I spent 20 games sitting behind him in RF, and yes the guy occasionally looked lost out there; but I'd live with the occasional defensive lapse to give the team more flexibility to add offensive firepower. Miguel isn't the best RF, but he wasn't a butcher out there, either.
November 2, 200421 yr to those who would like Cabrera in right are completely out of their minds ... kid looks freaking lost and he would much rather play in LF because he can see the ball better and Fish Fry. Wrigley inst even close to a pitchers park
November 2, 200421 yr and Fish Fry. Wrigley inst even close to a pitchers park Wrigley park factors from '00 - '04 according to Baseballreference.com: 00 - Batting 90/Pitching 92 01 - Batting 96/Pitching 97 02 - Batting 98/Pitching 98 03 - Batting 99/Pitching 99 04 - Batting 106/Pitching 105 '04 was the only year that Wrigley favored hitters over the past 5 seasons.
