They also have our name out of the "sweepstakes" for Pavano. And as far as the 'Mando thing, they list the interested teams as us and the Indians. So, nothing new there.

Beginning Nov. 12 teams can make make offers on other teams' free agents. Benitez saved 47 games for Florida last season. Other likely targets are Troy Percival and Dustin Hermanson. "If we get a sense from the agent that there's common ground for a deal, then it's possible we'd make an offer quickly," Indians GM Mark Shapiro told The Plain Dealer. Shapiro also said the offer would be withdrawn after 72 hours. "We're not going to leave a deal on the table to be shopped." The Marlins haven't given up on bringing back Benitez next year, either ? if he can come at a reasonable enough price (two years and $12 million or thereabouts). If they can't make it work, they'll go with Guillermo Mota as their closer.

November 12, 200421 yr Mota will be a good closer. He was unhittable this year from 0-79 innings. It's when he got into September and 80+ innings when he started to struggle. He'll pitch 60-70 innings as a closer... I think he'll be fine.

I think whoever gives him a 3 or 4 year contract wins the Benitez sweepstakes. 613354[/snapback] I'm less inclined to believe that simply because deals of that length aren't handed out to power pitchers of his age...2 years is a reasonable length for him (considering they'll all likely have options for a third year). Also, there are a lot of bad teams so, to me, the best team to make a fair offer likely gets 'Mando.
