Lenny Harris offered a major league contract

Featured Replies

Harris, the league's all-time pinch-hit leader with 193, was offered a one-year, $400,000 contract by the Marlins late last week.

:banghead :dont :no

There are a hundred other players (such as Darryl Ward, Midre Cummings and Admin Sutton) who are better hitters, defenders and would've accepted minor league deals.

good.

Lenny is awesome and brings more than #s to the team.

Good, whenever we need that sharp ground out to the second-baseman, we know who we're paying $400K to do it :cool

Lenny was swinging a good bat the 2nd half of the season, imo

lots of line drives

Nah, I like this move. Lenny is a great hitter off the bench. He struggled in the first half this past season, but he was great the second half. I still have the picture of that 3 run double off of Gagne in my head... That was beautiful..

Plus, he brings a lot more than just numbers... He's invaluable in that clubhouse.

As long as he does at least what he did last year, I'm okay with it. But serouisly, if he sucks and they keep him on the roster many will die.

Put Aguila on the bench, Willingham, anyone.

How many games early in the last season did Harris blow it when Jack made him first off the bench in critical situations?

I don't know why Jack is so enamored with him. It's time for Harris to retire. This is a waste of a roster spot, IMO.

A .218 average as a pinch hitter is exactly a "great hitter off the bench". :thumbdown

Even .243 is hardly "great in the second half". It only served to pull up his dismal .190 first half.

OBTW, Harris had a .167 average in PPS last year.

I'm older than most here, and so showing Lenny some respect and offering him a chance to leave his mark in baseball's record book tugs at my heartstrings but that said I hope he get's his 200 pinch hits and retires the next day.

Da Pimp returns

Someone with that name doesn't deserve to be on the Marlins. :plain

How can you judge Lenny Harris based on one season? The guy is the all-time pinch hit leader... I will be honored to have him play for my home team when he gets his 200th pinch hit...

LOL.

I hope you're right. I suppose I could hold on through 7 more hits.....although that could take a few months. :banghead

let the guy finish his career with 200 pinch hits and in a marlins unifrom and then give him a coaching job in 06

You don't think batting .243 as a pinch hitter is good? are you serious?

Lenny Harris is the Marlins' version of Bimbo Coles. He announced last season that he wanted to play another year after rumors that he was retiring and this made it official. Lenny is a bonafide major leaguer and there has not been a more consistent hitter off the bench over the years.

I hope he gets to 200.

Even .243 is hardly "great in the second half".

You must be joking, because otherwise that post right there shows you know very little about the game of baseball. Hitting .243 as a pinch hitter is excellent.

He has the most career pinch-hits because for 15 years he was the 9th or 10th best hitter on the team. The last 5 years he's barely been the 15th best hitter on the team leaving off the reputation as a solid pinch-hitter. BUT GUESS WHAT?! HIS CAREER BATTING AVERAGE AS A PINCH-HITTER IS LEAGUE-AVERAGE!!!!! :censored :censored :censored
