November 16, 200421 yr I've posted my opinionabove but here's Rotoword's take on offering Harris a contract: "The Marlins have offered free agent Lenny Harris a one-year, $400,000 contract to stay with the club. It's the same amount Harris received last year, and it appears that he will accept the contract and remain an absolutely terrible use of a roster spot. Harris can't be blamed for wanting to keep playing, but it has to suck to be a Triple-A veteran and see this kind of thing happen again and again."

My guess is Jack get's him his ABs/hits by the first trading deadline and he retires gracefully to make room for another player.
November 16, 200421 yr Great news for Lenny. He's a guy Jack likes and counts on, and its a left handed bat.
November 16, 200421 yr I want Lenny to be on the coaching staff in 06, personally. Hell, I'm sure he'd make a better hitting coach then Bill Robinson.
November 16, 200421 yr He has the most career pinch-hits because for 15 years he was the 9th or 10th best hitter on the team. The last 5 years he's barely been the 15th best hitter on the team leaving off the reputation as a solid pinch-hitter. BUT GUESS WHAT?! HIS CAREER BATTING AVERAGE AS A PINCH-HITTER IS LEAGUE-AVERAGE!!!!! :censored :censored :censored 615552 I will just reiterate what others have said. Hitting .243 as a pinch hitter is very respectable. Everyone here is for Damion Easley and his average as a pinch hitter was pretty damn low.
November 16, 200421 yr Will we have to wait till June for him to get 5 hits this season too? Alright it might not have been June, but it seemed like it. Let someone earn this spot, don't just give it away.
November 16, 200421 yr alright lenny is gonna be back! you haters bag on him all year and then we he comes up big you act like ur not a hater or you still say he is good for nothing.
November 16, 200421 yr Lenny is a good guy, and he's had some big hits for us. We;ll let him get his 200 and then let hm move on probably if their is a prospect that is hot and deserves to be brought up. Why start the year with a prospect on the bench when he could at least be playing every day in AAA tuning up his skills for the season?
November 16, 200421 yr Ya'll haters will be sniffin his butt when he gets a game winning hit!! 615674 Exactly! I love Lenny and i'm glad he's coming back. He will go into the record books as a Marlin, he's one of the best pinch hitters in the game, and he is a desperately needed lefty bat off the bench. Everyone loved him when he beat Gagne but now many people are pissed and calling him garbage? Anyone notice how all the truly diehard Marlins fans on this site are excited that Lenny is coming back but all the fairweather fans are pissed? f***ing bandwagoners.
November 16, 200421 yr beautiful. gotta love the FO's insistence on playing with a 24-man roster yet again.
November 17, 200421 yr Author Great news for Lenny. He's a guy Jack likes and counts on, and its a left handed bat. 615641 Remember when were talking about quality of lefty and right bats for the lineup? Yeah, this is a good case why not to employ just any lefthanded bat. Lenny is a good guy, and he's had some big hits for us. We;ll let him get his 200 and then let hm move on probably if their is a prospect that is hot and deserves to be brought up. Why start the year with a prospect on the bench when he could at least be playing every day in AAA tuning up his skills for the season? 615786 Lenny came up with a lot of big outs too. You can count number of times he got a hit in a rally on one hand. You'd need your entire Catholic or Ultra-Orthodox family to count the times he killed a rally. The guy who really won the 25th spot out of spring training, Wilson Valdez was 26 and could hit, field and run (a rare combination from our bench last year). He didn't need to tune his skills in AAA. With Luiy, Alex and Mike he never would have become a starter here. At his advanced age he was not a prospect to be saved for the future or trade. The same goes for guys like Admin Sutton and Joe Dillon. And to a lesser degree Josh Willingham and Chris Aguila.
November 17, 200421 yr And Harris steals someones spot on the team. Hey I can crack some jokes and have some fun. Why not sign me? Heck I will learn all those cool handshakes too.
