November 16, 200421 yr If Pavano leaves I'd rather sign a veteran like Leiter to a 1 or 2 year contract, so by the time their contract ends our talented young pitching like Olsen, Bazardo, Kensing, Tankersley and Vargas will be ready.

It seems we are set on bringing Valdez back, which is too bad, because if we could have picked 2 of the 5 I listed we'd have a killer rotation again, but even just one of them we'll still have a potentially very strong 1-4 rotation.

November 16, 200421 yr I think Russ Ortiz would be a nice addition to the Marlins. He's a solid pitcher. He struggles with control at times, but overall, he does put up solid win/loss records year in and year out. The Giants should have never traded him for Damian Moss.... That was a mistake.

Ortiz is a proven commodity, he can pitch 200+ innings and have a high 3 ERA which is very solid. Clement and Perez have the potential to do better, but it won't be by that much. Price equal, I'd take Perez, Clement, and then Ortiz. But I'd take whoever came cheaper of those three. Lima would be a good addition for one million, his run last year really inflated his value way beyond his capabilities but he can be fairly effective in PPS. But I see some team duped into picking up his services thinking regained his touched of 6 - 8 years ago...or however long its been.
November 17, 200421 yr Ortiz is the better option of that group, with the exception of Perez, for the reason cobaincola said, that you know what you'll get from Ortiz. Sure, he's not dominant, but he eats up innings, and with injury problems Beckett and others have, it's good to have a guy on the rotation who can do that.

They have the stuff to step into a #2 role if the team loses Beckett or Burnett in a year or 2, whereas Ortiz will never be more than a #3. I wouldn't give equal money for lesser talent.
